About this time last year, riots had already begun in the Lessal Industrial Complex.
To most, that place is the a simple, self sufficient Mine/Refinery/Factory all in one.
To me? and the others who were for whatever reason sold into Illegal slavery, that was our slave centre.
You wouldn't expect literal slavery from within the Federation, although Wage Slavery and related instances are well reported and documented. But that is what it was. A slave workshop. Some mined ore, others loaded said ore into organising units for "trusted individuals" (read: not slaves) to enter into the refinery, and then process into useable material for the rest of the slaves in the factory.
This time last year, one of the main groups of slaves organised a revolt at the behest of their leader. The revolt in its entirety was put down, and a lot of effort was spent keeping noise down about the incident, with the only noise making it out being a "labour dispute", and that everything was "being discussed" and "talks were ongoing with the workers".
What a load of shit.
Maybe one day I'll get around to finally writing out a detailed account of it all, but the long and short of it is that during the chaos of the revolt, I legged it along with Barnes, who was on contract work at the facility as a "trusted individual" doing prospecting for the ores to be mined. He told me to take his sidewinder, and leg it.
You don't tell someone who hasn't ever seen a ship in their life to leg it, and take your own ship, and expect them to make it very far. Short story mode leaves me to say that I made it to Dalton Gateway, LHS 3447, before realising I had to ditch the ship and find something new, and escape.
And that's how I ended up here.
In the space of a year, I've gone from not having a penny to my name, and having barely seen a clear blue sky, to having over one and a half billion credits to my name in total, and seen well over ten thousand different stars, and journeyed three times
to Colonia, 22000 light years from home. I also became an Imperial Citizen, and now work with the Imperial Navy as a freelancer, and have made enough contacts throughout the bubble to trade profitably till my heart is content. And this is all before we mention that we have investigated alien ruin sites, crashed alien ships, and had a close encounter with a real Alien Ship. And this is all without mentioning that Catriona has been with me through all of the above. Met her at the end of August.
But that isn't all I've got to celebrate today. We've suitably rested ourselves from our trip out here to Jaques station, and spent the longest concurrent period of time yet at Colonia, with previous visits ranging from less than a day during CCC, to about 3 or 4 days when we first ventured out here in September.
We did get our iCourier shipped out here, and I've used it to visit all of the new infrastructure in place around Colonia. I don't feel like getting into the details, but I'm not really impressed.
and so now, we think on the future.
The whole point of the trip was to visit both The Core, and Beagle Point. So we're going to set off on that trip tomorrow afternoon. Don't expect to hear from us until we have returned home. I'd expect that to be some time in early April. We're trying to get Elite Exploration, but I have my doubts on getting it unless we scan absolutely everything. We will pick and choose what to take however. Mainly ELW and WW's again, but now that we're going beyond travelled routes, putting our names on remarkable systems will be easier since they're no longer crowded out and taken. Neither of us have seen a black hole in person, nor a neutron star or any of the rarer star designations like Wolf Rayets, so they're fully on our list of things we want to visit too. Maybe get ourselves some nebula's too.
Our next update will probably be in about a month.
