Elite: General talk

Ok, I see. Thanks! I guess I read somewhere that your Inara Commander name had to match your in-game commander name for the syncing to work. I guess that was wrong, because it seems to work fine!

Let's hope for that.

If Microsoft buys Frontier, they will do a better job of monetizing it.

Example: With Xplane my Laminar Research, you get EVERYTHING in one package.
But with MSFS, you have to buy 17 packs to get it to do what Xplane does out of the box.

The downside to Frontier's business plan is that they sell you a game once, and you use their servers for thousands of hours.
I doubt arx bucks bring in any significant revenue.

They don't have anything to keep most players around for very long. They have a potential gourmet meal but the cooks don't know how to mix ingredients.

They have kept you entertained for 3000 hours.

I could do another 1000 hours.

"entertained" is stretching it. 80% of the game is grind, busy work or gratuitous time wasting via things like travel. 600 hours of actual entertainment is more accurate and still respectable.

Less than 3000 hours and over the course of 7 years. Most of that time is spent travelling and material grinding or waiting for mission boards to refresh. Entertainment/time-invested ratio is pretty low in my case. I tend to play a lot for a few months and then take several months or a year+ off. Also I feel compelled to have every ship and every on-foot suit/weapon all fully engineered due to my completionist nature (thankfully that has been done for some time now). I believe this is not the case for most people. If it weren't for engineering (I didn't play the game at all since engineering introduction until material traders came along) I would have far less time in the game. I don't hate the game but it never conveys the feeling of "time well spent".
Also I did say "most players" not "all players".

Then why did you play it for so many hours?
Really, that's just crazy. You gave up years of spare time to play a game you weren't that into?
Who does that?*

*yes, yes. apparently you did...but why? Life is short. Play better games.

I am just saying, if you have played 3000 hours of something and you *are not* enjoying it... You're either in some sort of stockholm syndrome bullshit or you are lying.

You are putting in almost half a year of your life and you're tell me you aren't liking it? Your brain would recognize that and you would not be playing if that was the case.

Presentation is why you play it.
Content is why you start to hate it.

Steam wasn't shut down.
Game sales went up during the pandemic.

Elite Dangerous is a game; not a religion, not a career.
There is only so much content...it's not a real galaxy.
Play it till it's not shiny anymore, then move on to something new.

PS: I wish I coulda been quarantined...even a little. I was essential personnel so my hours went UP during Covid. I could kill for ten days off.

The point was the flawed premise in your statement: 100% of the time spent is not entertainment so your numbers lie like statisticians only can. I may spend a day visiting family, but the trip one way takes 5 hours and really it ends up being a dinner and drinks on the patio for 2 hours. Do I tell everyone I visited my family for twelve hours? No. Do I still visit them even though it's only a couple hours of face time? ofc. You are confusing total time with quality time. There is a HUGE difference and game companies hope we're dumb enough not to understand that. Like, who is really? Oh, right...
