Elite: Odyssey

EpisparhSo Frontier's stock shares have been axed too.
Hopefully, they will recover from that but more important is that the people who made the decision for this marketing stunt and rushed development and the community white knights that supported that dumb decision draw the right conclusions from all this.

What conclusion might that be?

The only sensible conclusion Frontier might make is that ED is dead, close it down and just put the loss down to experience, that would be best.

Wait! What?

The only sensible conclusion is that you cannot release unfinished product. That whole thing would go way better if they listened to the feedback from alpha and call this "Early access and beta test". We all love Elite, but we also expect half decency from its publisher.

I keep looking at NMS patch list with their massive fixes and (free) additions, wondering how a team of less than 30 employees can do that amount of work in less than 5 years, compared to what Fdev has done in 6.

I'd expect no less from you... Thanks for delivering! Do you have any more little gems for me?

Business sense says that Odyssey has been an expensive failure - the investors (and to some extent shareholders) may put pressure on Frontier to kill the franchise, and quickly (servers cost money too) to cut their losses and continue with profitable IP titles.

I'd find it particularly funny if this was the decision, it would certainly upset the "White Knights"

Also, is there a way to see all of Fdev's patch notes in one place that's attached to a site perhaps, and not haphazardly strung about in a forum like some 13 year old kid developer keeping track of his pet project?

Something like.. https://www.nomanssky.com/release-log/

Honestly, I am not sure if you are trolling or being naive. If Frontier kill Elite right now after they betreyed their customers, how you think this will reflect on them as company? Do you think they will continue to exist after such imaginary scenario?

NMS isn't quite the same scale as ED (literally) as well as having more cartoony graphics.

I wanted to say he was trolling, but I looked into it and while Braben owns a third of all FDev shares, the vast majority of the rest is held by Financial Institutions. This means while he hurts from this catastrophe, he will also be under immense pressure to cowtow to traditional shareholder demands (cut your losses, make more money above all else, etc...). Real talk: FDev dropping this is a serous possibility, although unlikely. Particularly if they can course correct and reinvigorate their flagship product/cash cow.

Edit: history has shown that almost any entrenched company can recover from even the worst press. British Petroleum, and EA for example. furthermore, you don't even have to be a big company, Ie: CD Projekt (Cyberdump 2077), and Hello Games (No Mans game).

Nah, it's more likely FDev will spend 6 months damage controlling while they get the console version going. We'll have a better idea then what is going on.

Take a look at what happened to Toys R Us. But in the end all shareholders care about is the quick buck, very few have ever seen let a lone played the game.

even tho i cant actually play odyssey as i get the orange sidewinder when trying to open it

If ED disappeared I would switch to NMS in a heartbeat. Apart from the cartoony graphics they seem to be very similar games.
