Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Two full wings of carrier defense Vultures, three Pythons equipped for mining, four more armed Phantom (ffffphANTommm) escort ships and lastly, four Asp Ex quick response rescue ships. The number representing the cost of the support fleet looked small compared to the bill for the Thunderchild; Lamb pressed the proceed icon and switched to the staff requests. It seemed all her liner workers that had been happy until now suddenly wanted to work from a carrier.

The position of Entertainments Director was foremost in her mind for some reason, she felt her time with Echo was responsible for that. A name of a fellow Cubeoian had recently appeared on her subcontracted pilots list, and he would be perfect for the job. Well, if he could be reliable which she very much doubted. Still, she could think of no one better for the job, well apart from Don Dolfo Erazino Manolete Hunfredo the Second. He was an amazing man, and he was an executive for Gutamaya. Lamb made an effort to get her mind back to the task in hand.

She put the slate on the bed and stretched her arms before getting back to work. If she accepted all the transfer requests, Lambacond Cruises would need restaffing and the training alone would destroy its already dwindling income. She was lucky Suzie had decided to refit the majority for her liners for mining during the last rush. Without that bit of forethought, Lamb would had have to cut into deep into her personal saving to pay for the launch of the company’s carrier. She put Suzi into the top slot of the carrier staff with a generous pay raise.

While Lamb was wondering if Suzi would prefer the title Managing Director or Fleet Commander, Echo walked into the room with a food trolley. She couldn’t help but feel a little flattered while he stood there for a moment enjoying her barely dressed body.

“I asked for a little feast Mr Ramón, I did not intend to be a feast for your eyes” she said failing to suppress a smile “Bring that trolley over please, I still have plenty of work to do”

Echo read the slate when he put food and drink on the bedside table for Lamb.

“Staff allocations for .. Oh god! How many ships is that?” Echo hadn’t seen that many ships under one name for a very long time.

“Too many Mr Ramón. My mother added a fair few when she and Lord Kavanah took control of my company while I was being investigated for using fathers’ credentials to sneak you chaps back on board the Conduit. It would seem mother still knows best when it comes to running a liner company”

Lamb turned a serious face to Echo.

“Not that I’d ever want her to know. That debarked cost me over three billion with mother's interference, but thanks to her changes to my fleet, I made over tipple that before I brought this lumbering mess of a carrier. Also, my assets were not ceased, so I have to be grateful to her”

Echo said nothing, he was hiding his embarrassment. He had met the Baroness, Lambs’ mother, and still couldn’t believe she was related to Lambast. He’d never forget that Christmas. Fortunately, Lambast was absorbed in her slate and had failed to notice Echo was furiously blushing.

“It seems using a carrier to ferry multiple passenger liners to and from Colonia is not as lucrative as I imagined it was going to be. The support vessels alone will cripple the profit margin for about a year, that’s without out the initial cost of the Thunderchild it's self”

Echo sorted out his own food and sat on the bed beside Lambast still reading the slate. It felt good to be dodging work with the Imperial Lady, although she was still working just not on finding out why they had been lead to this station.

“So, is this why you were so stressed out? I’m getting overwhelmed and I’m just glancing at ya slate” he said while putting his arm around her shoulders.

Lamb had leaned forward to let Echo put his arm around her before she could stop herself. It wasn’t that she didn’t like it, but she also didn’t want to let Echo think this was something it was not. Still, he was giving Lamb an opportunity to vent her frustration with Kai. He’d already helped her release some tension over everything else, not least of all the chance to take care of Mr Barton in a very bloody way. Lamb sighed and let his arm stay for at least a little while.

“No Mr Ramón, this is just work. With the Hand being so full of late, I don’t really get time to sit down with some peace and quiet to get on with it. Kai’s latest revelation is what is bending my banana right now”

“Um Lamb, Bananas are supposed to be bent aren’t they?” asked Echo trying to lighten the mood a little.

“Just shut up and listen man” Lamb closed her eyes and took a breath “Sorry about that Echo, that was very poor form” She said making eye contact for a moment “I would enjoy the opportunity to complain, and would appreciate it if you would just listen”

Echo smiled, no one managed to get under Lamb’s skin like Kai. Friends were always the best at upsetting each other.

“Ok Ms Mercy I’m all ears” he said picking up his coffee ready to listen.

Echo listened at length to Lambast tell him how Kai had confessed to being a pirate that had worked from this very system. Echo didn’t really see the problem with that, it would give them an easy in to look for information on Vega’s sister. Fortunately, Echos’ survival instinct told him to make disapproving noises while Lambast made a fair few assumptions about Kaislas’ time under the Jolly Roger.

Lambs’ main problem was that Kai, Lamb guessed, had been robing ships at a very young age. Apparently. Lambasts’ family had taken Kai in when both the girls had been young teens, and Kaisla had left them while the Baron and Baroness were still legally responsible for her. In some systems, they had been responsible for Kaisla until she was twenty-one. Lambast was very upset that Kai would expose her second family to that kind of trouble should she be arrested.

“Hang on a minute” interrupted Echo before he could stop himself. “Didn’t your folks adopt Kai?

“Oh no no. Mum and I desperately wanted to, but dad told us it would be best to let Kai know we were there to look after her. It may have driven her off if she imagined we were trying to replace her peasants. Kai was very delicate for a while”

Echo saw a genuine tenderness that looked most out of place on Lamb's face while Lamb was lost in remembering the past.

“A shame really” Lambast continued “because now she would be Lady Kaisla Delana-Mercy, or Mercy-Delana. Both names sound very regal”

Lamb looked more herself as soon as she got back to complaining about her friend that she clearly cared for deeply.

“Anyway, mother and Farther always let her get away with anything while I had to” Lamb did an impression of her Father’s voice “behave and set an example to Kiki”

Lamb put her slate down before she smashed it on the bedside table.

“Now I find out why my so-called best friend never came to visit me while I was having a perfectly miserable time at the academy. I was setting an example for Kai, hoping she would join me so I would have some back-up, but no. She was off sealing bloody weapons for uppity colonists. Damn it she infuriates me”

Echo waited in case Lamb wasn’t finished. He could pick out at least three times in recent memory off the top of his head that would make Lambast a hypocrite of the highest order, but he felt pointing them out would endanger his wellbeing. Instead, he used the time to form a reassuring but noncommittal answer.

“Well, you did a great job of leading by example, and you set a very high bar. You can’t force someone like Kai to follow, but hey, imagen what she’d be like without you lookin out for her”

Lamb let out a deep sigh but said nothing.

“I think you really need to talk to her Lamb, that’s the only way you’ll get any closure on your feelings about her” said Echo pulling Lamb in closer. He leaned in to give Lambast a reassuring kiss.

Lamb resisted his embrace and pulled her head back away from him.

“No Mr Ramón, we are good friends and wouldn’t want to upset our relationship by letting my silly feeling get in the way. I’m perfectly happy the way things are between us thank you”

Lamb had kept her cool eyes locked on his while she made the last statement, and Echo got that she meant both his relationship with Lamb, and her friendship with Kai.

Echo didn't like it, but Lamb had said she didn't want anything beyond a physical relationship. It didn't make Echo feel good to be reminded of that right now. He watched Lambs' face as it glazed over. Suddenly she picked up her slate again and turned it on.

"Oh bollox!" exclaimed Lamb "It's the twenty-first today. Here I am banging away like some tart when I should be baking tarts for Kai"

Echo almost picked up a pillow defensively as Lambast jumped up as started gathering her clothes.

"W-w-wah?" is all Echo managed to expel in confusion.

"Its bloody well Kais' Birthday today and I start it off by shouting at her and completely forgetting about it until now. To top it off,  just sat here on my arse telling you what a terrible person I think she is"

Echo wasn't really listening, he was getting some great views as Lamb picked up her clothes.

"Mr Ramón, I need you to go find Kai and get her back to the Hand in three.. No, three and a half hours. See to it no one starts any trouble or I shall have cause to be most unreasonable" commanded Lambast as she struggled into her jodhpurs.

Echo got the impression he better start paying attention or the unreasonableness could soon be aimed at him.

"I'm on it Lambast. I'll take care of things here, you go do what ya gotta do. Um, those tarts, will they be .."

"Yes Mr Ramón, there will be jam tarts present at the table" answered Lamb prematurely with a little smile. Echo really did like jam.

Within moments Lambast was fighting her way into her coat while talking to Naomi on her slate. Echo listened to her retreat down the hall.

"I need you to go to.. .you've already started! Miss Chizimu, you are worth your weight in gold. How would you like to test your skills aboard a mega-ship?"

Kai attempted to shrink even further into her seat. The stranger known as “Cal” tossed an in-distinct wave at the person who had hailed him from the doorway.

Cal sauntered up to the table with the air (and appearance) of someone who is pretty high on the food chain and therefore wasn’t much worried about details.

“Kaisla Delana as I live and breath, is that really you? Haha! I would recognize those features and shock of silver hair from a mile away. Saw you slinking around the cause-way back there. Cat know you’re here yet?” Cal rasped amongst several gasps of breath and over a heaving waist line.

Kai chanced a partial glance toward her long-lost accomplice, “Hi-ya Cal, how ya’ been? No...Cat doesn’t know I’m here yet. I’d kinda like to keep it that way if we could.”

Cal flexed his entire weight on to the table, permitting the flimsy plastic to emit a low-groan; Maul eyed the seam of the table suspiciously. “Nonsense. I’ll call him up and we’ll all get together for a bite - for old times sake.”

Kai shifted closer to the edge of the booth, “No...wait, I can’t. I’m not here to catch up. I’m here for business, not pleasure.”

Cal eyed Kai beneath his moist and pudgy brow. “Eh, since when did you ever differentiate?”

At that moment Kai’s slate pinged shortly followed by Maul’s and Vega’s. Kai took the distraction to shift gears quickly. “Well, by that I mean, I’m in a different business these days, gone straight, up-and-up and all that,” Kai glanced at her slate, “Speaking of business, that will be it. Um, no, we really got to rush, trying to keep a low profile, you know how it is.”

As Kai shifted in the booth to make her way out, Cal gently pushed her back toward the wall, wedging himself into the booth next to her. “My dear, what’s the rush? Besides, you haven’t introduced me to your friends here.” Before giving her a chance to make introductions, Cal leaned closer to her, “Good, good, nice to meet you. Now Kai, dearie, our little fire-cracker, you know what the Blue rats policy is on outsiders conducting business ‘round this parts.”

Cal’s previous facade, that of a bumbling, gregarious and overweight slob faded instantaneously and his cunning and ruthless features gave way to one of the most prolific and lethal pirates spanning nearly fifteen systems. “No, sadly our dinner reunion tonight will not be to just to catch-up and it will be compulsory.”

Kai audibly gulped. “Cal, that’s not what I mean...”

Cal pinched her cheek as she turned away, “My dear Kai, how many times did I tell you, never listen to their words, listen to the little words that they never say. Nineteen hundred sharp, system time; you know the place.”

With that, Cal stood from the booth, deposited a rather large credit chip on the table and waved toward the server kiosk and walked out of the coffee shop.

Silas sighed as he looked up from his slate across the table at Raven, who was scarfing down a hoagie.

"You know we're here to work, right?" he said

"I am working..." Raven managed to muffle through the sandwich, then swallowed.
"How are we supposed to blend in at a restaurant if we're not eating? You don't go to a restaurant across the lane from a real coffee shop just to sit and drink coffee." Raven pointed out.

"Mhmm..." Silas replied absently. His attention had already returned to the coffee shop across the street, where a large stranger had seated himself with Kai, Maul, and Vega. Well, a stranger to him, at least.

"So, I mean, it looks like Kai knows that dude, so like, why are we gathering intel secondhand from our own team?" Raven said.

"It's pretty obvious Kai's been nervous since we landed here... something is up." Silas said

Raven shifted in his seat and grinned at Silas, picking up his own mug of coffee.

"I gotcha, so instead of gathering real intel, we're stalking your girlfriend." Raven chuckled, taking a sip. He got a simple pleasure out of getting under Silas' skin sometimes.

"...It's not like that, I'm not upset I was just concerned. I've never seen her act that way, and so I wanted to make sure I don't have to kill anyone."

"...and do we?" Raven asked, barely concealing his excitement.

"I don't know yet. Let's go find out." Silas said, gathering himself quickly, slamming his coffee, placing a credit stick on the table and moving to shadow the large man who had just exited the coffee shop.

Raven, noticing what was going on, scrambled to quickly gather his things.

They had been following the man for a couple blocks. It wasn't hard, he was, to put it nicely, easy to spot and not very light on his feet. Eventually they tailed him to a nondescript building. Based on limited signage, it seemed like some sort of a club, but it appeared to be closed. Whether that was a permanent state of affairs, or only due to it being early in the day, the two were unsure.

"Hey, Rave?" Silas looked at him thoughtfully.

"...I know that look, ya conniving bastid." Raven looked back to see Silas eyeing the barely visible ends of his tattoos poking out from under his long sleeves.

"Them tats of yours... pretty recognizable here in the criminal underworld, yeah?"

"I mean... yeah I guess." Raven said, "but we wiped out all of them but me."

"Uh huh," Silas replied, "but they don't know that. Say, you up for a little ruse? Some subversion? Espionage? Probably a barfight?"

Raven said nothing, but began rolling up his sleeves with a sigh.

I settled into the pilots seat and got myself all situated and looked again at the NAV data.  HIP 100891, well here goes 205LYs  but oddly enough not all that far away from my home.

Systems powered up, I punched in the launch request, left the docking bay and put us in the black.

Or rather I thought I did.  Alarms started to scream, debris started to skid off the canopy, the ship lurched sideways twice and we were not even off of the landing tractors yet.

Communications went nuts...  "Hydrogen explosion in dock 39, get all fire crews!"

What is going on?  Boom another explosion....   Well it looks now like I have two choices, run the lock or try to set back down and figure out what the hell is happening.

Boom! another one, another tower and docking bay erupted!  Nope not hanging out!

I hit the throttle and headed for the locks, I can hover outside and figure it out.

Continued from Logbook and Citi Gateway Docks

Dropping between FA on and off helped A Knight of Goodness move erratically as Creamy did his best to avoid incoming fire. The last two missile impacts hadn’t done much damage, but they had been launched from almost point-blank range leaving Creamy littel chance of avoiding them. He didn’t want a repeat of that.

“Ninette, what’s happened to the jump? Has the drive been damaged?” asked Creamy while he looked around for inspiration on his next great escape.

“Non. La coque n'a pas été percée. Le FSD a été surchargé et arrêté. Le redémarrage a été lancé. Dix-neuf secondes et comptage” Answered the COVAS anticipating Creamys’ question about how long a reboot would take.

Less than twenty seconds before the FSD could be charged again wasn’t so bad; that meant about half a minute of dodging shots and missiles until Creamy was out of there.

“Oh bloody hell” complained Creamy under his breath not entirely convinced by his optimistic appraisal.

Just then, the shields came back on line drawing Creamys’ attention to the bottom left of his HUD. That’s when he noticed the power was set for an even spread between all systems. Quickly he took the power from the weapons and put it all into engines. He was pressed back in his seat as A Knight accelerated. The distance between him and the chasing ship started to tick up, so Creamy engaged another boost and the number ticked much quicker.

“Ha, I’m off pal. You can’t catch me, I’m the bloody gingerbread man” jibed Creamy as he luckily avoided another incoming shot.

With the safety of growing distance Creamy felt embolden. He checked FA was off and deployed his weapons. He’d never seen them before, so when two enormous guns unpacked beside the cockpit, Creamy couldn’t help but feel ready to take on an army. He didn’t know what A Knight was armed with; he’d just had fitted what the escort pilots back at Robigo had put on the list. He remembered he was told to fire the primary weapons no more than three times before holding the trigger on the secondary weapons to bring down the heat.

A cold sweat formed on Creamys’ brow and he could feel himself trembling with both fear and excitement. Controlling his breathing, Creamy hit the boost and flipped A Knight around still traveling on his escape vector. If it wasn’t for the targeting recital and the enemy ships' engine glow, Creamy would have been hard pressed to see his target. Instinctively, Creamy drifted in a random direction just in time to avoid another super-fast blue tracer shot. His weapon indicator lined up with the target recital and Creamy pumped the primary trigger. There was a noise like atmosphere being ripped by a small hot explosion and thee orange bolts of energy sailed above the cockpit and struck the chasing ship. Its shields glowed when the shots landed filling Creamy with determination.

“Oh my friend, you’re in so much trouble now” shouted Creamy full of riotous fury.

He glanced at the weapons charger wondering why the guns didn’t fire when he pulled the trigger and saw they took a moment to recharge, so he concentrated on drifting off his vector to dodge return fire. As soon the primary weapons were ready again, Creamy lined up another shot and fired. Two of the bolts he released hit the target and almost took out its shields. Creamy punched the air and congratulated himself.

There was a bright flash that Creamy had seen many times before; it was a ship dropping out of super cruise. It appeared close to Creamys’ enemy and moved to take up formation. Another flash indicated a second ship arriving and it also lined up with the other two. While Creamy was wondering what was going on, the indicators on the scanner for the new arrivals turned triangle and Creamy saw them accelerate towards him.

Bravado faded quickly and Creamy was left with his nervousness and a cold sweat.

“Oo fff! Bugger that for a game of soldiers, I’m off”

Retracting his weapons, Creamy flipped A Knight of Goodness once again and pumped the FSD praying for the thing to engage. A powerful impact on the shields damn near stripping them reminded Creamy to fly evasive and boost away from the fight. The new ships were faster than the first and he couldn’t count on being able to outfly three hostiles.

Another boost pressed Creamy into his seat and a glance at the scanner showed him he was just about outpacing the new pursuers. He said a silent thank you to the escort pilots that had advised him how to have A Knights modules improved, and checked he was clear of mass-lock. A new icon appeared on his scope, it was another pair of missile. Creamy launched Chaff and pushed the stick hard away. The chaff had not helped last time, but it made him feel better to use it anyway. The FSD sounded like it was ready to send A Knight into Witch Space as the two missiles overtook him but it still had a few seconds left on the charge. Another pair of missile icons hurtled towards Creamy, and again he pushed the stick in a random direction hoping to avoid their impact.

--------------------------------------

The overheating alarm did nothing but annoy Vodan as he launched disrupter missiles one after the other hoping for just a single hit to stop Creamy escaping. Trapdoor and Funnelweb were almost keeping pace with the target but only Funnelwebs’ four Rail Guns were in play right now and Creamy was doing an amazing job of being hard to hit. Vodan was anticipating Creamys’ dodges and trying to force him into the path of a missile he had had previously launched. It looked like it was about to pay off.

Creamys' ship had straightened out and one of the missiles was closing in on a perfect intercept course. Vodans’ wingmates had gone a little wide and where now boosting in to start a crossfire attack run. That strategy had forced many pilots to surrender and drop their cargo rather than be obliterated by a generous bank of Plasma and Railgun fire.

The Trapdoor fired first. Its green Plasma bolts seemed slow, but they were on target to hit. Alone, they would ruin what was left of A Knights’ shields and give Creamy good reason to surrender as a generous portion of his hull was vaporised. A flash told Vodan the Funnelweb had fired its rail guns and he saw the red beams left behind the hyper-accelerated slugs the guns launched. An evil wide smile peeled across Vodans’ face as he opened the coms panel to look for Creamy and advise him to surrender. Creamys’ ship wasn’t on the list.

His jaw dropped when he checked his contacts display and saw an unidentified High-wake marker. With just a little atmosphere, Vodans’ rage-filled roar would have been heard back at Citi Gateway.

When Ao came to, he was unsure of exactly where he was, and for that matter when he had even passed out.
The glare of the lights in the white room made his head throb, his whole body burned like it had just been doused in boiling water, and the smell of antiseptic assaulted his nostrils.
With a groan he looked around, he was strapped to a medical bed, adjacent to another vacant bed in what was obviously a ship's medical office.
An IV drip snaked from his arm to a low pressure pump and container mounted on the wall above his bed, slowly sending his body fluids and nutrients.
"Wh...Where...?" he croaked

"Captain, try not to move, you suffered massive burns across most of your body and serious internal injuries from that little stunt you pulled crossing the docking bay, you completely shattered you left ankle, if it hadn't been for the armour you were wearing you wouldn't have been able to even stand, let alone fight for as long as you did"

Ao recognised the voice, Kevin Zemeckis, ship's nurse aboard the Yamato II.
"Did the Astarte get away?"
"It would appear so, there was a disturbance however near the station perimeter, a wing of ships attacked a vessel, 'A Knight of Goodness' I believe the registration was"

"Where are we now?"
"We are currently holding position in a parking orbit near the station...sir...I have some, unfortunate news...A large number of the crew...they...well..."

"They're dead?"

Kevin nodded
"Please contact the bridge, we are to rendezvous with the Star Wolf and make preparations to return home, contact the Astarte if they are still in range, transmit a direct connection code along with an encryption key so they can contact us at a moment's notice if any issues arise"

Ao tried to prop himself up on his elbows but Kevin placed a hand on his shoulder and pushed him back down
"You need to rest Captain, your injuries are severe, and truth be told, are beyond my abilities to treat, I'm just a nurse after all...the doctor...the doctor is no longer with us.

-Bridge-

Rose sat in the Captain's chair of the Yamato, and looked about her, the fight to take the Yamato had been bloody and brutal, a frightful number of the crew had been injured or killed, they had never figured out where Tiberius had gone, but when they had received a message from an anonymous source stating that the Captain was injured and in need of help, they had moved immediately.
When they arrived a ship had been in the process of taking off, and Ao, alone was left unconscious on the docking pan, there had been a trail of blood leading out the side exit of the hangar, so it was almost certain a second person had been there shortly beforehand.

With the phoney extradition order for Ao, getting off the station had been easy.
A message flashed up on the console mounted in the arm rest;
-Captain is awake, condition still critical, orders as follows: RV with SW and prepare for departure to Home Base, transmit contact frequency and encryption key to Astarte-

She relayed the orders to the few bridge crew that were still alive, most were wrapped in blankets in the cargo bay, and began to write the report, taking slow, deep breaths to keep her composure in front of the crew

Shortly after the Astarte left the station the ship managed to jump out of system without any further incidents, rushing towards its first stop on its way to Burojinura, Amata's home. When she pulled the disk out from the transponder and put it back into the lefthand compartment she saw that they recieved a text message shortly before the jump. Amata looked over to Jason. "Well, seems like someone was trying to contact us just before we entered witchspace. Could you take a look what it's all about? Afterwards I either need you to check on the doctor or take over the controls so I can do so myself."

A knight of Goodness jumped and jumped again. Creamy watched red and brown stars appear and dip out of view as he aimed his ship at the next jump. He hardly stayed in a system longer then it took for the FSD to recharge. From what Creamy could remember, it took about sixty seconds or more to find and scan a high wake. Creamy was in and out of a system in less than thirty seconds. If anyone that had ambushed him at Citi Gateway was following, he’d lose them in about ten jumps.

Sticking to stars that couldn’t supply fuel was an added measure to deter anyone that may be following. Creamy looked at his fuel gauge at the end of the jump rout Ninette had supplied. He had about enough left for one more jump. Perfect. Opening the Nav Panel, Creamy read the name of the system he was in. Col 285 Sector LJ-N B8-2.

“That’s incredibly dull. Just the two stars here is it Ninette?”

The COVAS didn’t answer because Creamy had all the information the computer did. He pointed the nose of the ship at the systems secondary star and kept the thrust full just in case someone had managed to follow him this far. After a little while, he stretched and yawned from his toes to his fingers. The pain killers were still making his head swim a little and he was tired enough to fall asleep in the pilot’s seat.

Creamy dropped out of supercruise and put the ship in a loop adjusting the speed until he felt about one-G of force. After fitting the clamps to the stick and throttle, he got up heading for the bedroom.

“Ninette, relay this message to Fairytale FE121 and ask Celeste to pass it on to Doctor Nymei if you please old girl”

What ho Doctor

I trust you made it safely off the station aboard Amata’s ship without further trouble thanks to your capable escorts.
I have retrieved my new ship and left Citi Gateway behind. Beforehand, Ninette did as she was instructed and allowed Security access to prevent damage. I fear they may have left a transponder or some such device aboard.
Could you perhaps ask your friends if they could suggest an uninhabited system where we could rendezvous?
I’m currently in one such system, Col 285 Sector LJ-N B8-2. I look forward to hearing you are unharmed and safe.

Your humble servant CG

“Right, that’s me for the day Ninette. I’m going to bed. Goodnight old girl”

“Bonne nuit Monsieur. Dormez bien” answered the COVAS.

I got through the slot with no time to spare and whole lot of yelling at me over the comms, "Speeding violation! Wait your turn in the Que! What do you think you are doing?"

"What I think I am doing is leaving, your starport is blowing itself to hell and I am leaving" I said to myself as I hit boost and washed away any care for what was happening at the "docks".

I am out, not looking back and on my way to Thorne, whatever is going on back there, they can have, I am in the black now and it matters not.

I had arranged for a Carrier to meet meet me half way so I could switch ships in a system that was not inhabited and made the rest of journey with no issues.

As soon as I broke the stars orbit I sent a message to my 'contact'. I sat out in the black for 30mins waiting for a response. Nothing.

"Well this is not good", I thought to myself, what to do? My contact knows where we are supposed to meet, so I guess I will dock and see. With that I settled into pad six and engaged the fuel crews.

"I'll take the helm," Jason offers. He tilts his head aft. "Go check on the doctor. I'll keep the ride as smooth as possible from here." He turned to his comm panel and brought up the message in question.

Amata nods, then undoes her safety harness. "Okay. Let me know what that message had for us once you finished to check it out. If something urgent comes up call me back asap." She heads into the back, and once she made sure the cockpit door shut behind her properly she entered her quarters, looking around to see what her guest was currently doing.

Nerys felt a familiar sensation under her feet, and for a split second the ship seemed to twist around her. On her little DBX, and even more on the Sidewinder, the jumps were accompanied by flickering in the lights and noisy hull vibrations, but in a ship of this size the inertial dampeners were much more sophisticated.

We left Inara she thought. Now for my pursuers it will be much more difficult to find me... but I still have no idea who they are and why they are hunting me.

Yet, she was finally free to breathe more freely. And to smell the stench of her clothes.

"Gerhard... sorry to bother you... can you please tell me where is the bathroom?"

"Of course, Ma'am. It is behind that glass panel."

The bathroom was bigger than her entire quarters in the DBX. Nerys dropped all her clothes into the washing machine door, and stepped into the shower with a sigh of relief.

"Speaking of my DBX..." she said while washing her hair "Gerhard, could you please contact the COVAS on my ship? I would like to check if everything is OK and if there are messages".

"I am sorry, Ma'am. To access the external communication system, you require the authorization of Commander Lirein".

"Oh... yes, of course, you are right. I am just a passenger."

Wrapped as best in a small towel, Nerys stepped out of the shower and fumbled for her glasses. They were opaque from the steam.

Amata told me to check her wardrobe. Let's see if I can find a shirt and some pants.

She opened the wardrobe, trying at the same time to clean her glasses with the edge of the towel. In that moment, the cabin door opened.

Amata looked at the doctor, this time taking a moment to inspect what she was able to see of the redhead's features while she was cleaning her glasses and now that there was time to do so. She smiled, then walked over to the sofa and sat down, crossing her legs, sitting in an elegant yet slightly seductive pose. "I hope you find something you like."

The contents of Amata's wardrobe were mostly dresses of various lengths, ranging from formfitting over daring to quite revealing, the only exceptions seem to be two spare made-to-measure white Remlok-suits.

Descartes, Hawking's Gap:

been out here for days, finding little to see, and even less to discover. If nothing changes soon I'm either going to turn around and head for home or look elsewhere for new discoveries. So lonely I've developed third man syndrome.
