Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

EvilCreamsicle"OK, well I know that we really deflated Lamb's sails when she went through all that effort to get us great disguises on Conduit and we kinda blew them immediately... and uh, hey Vega, just how much do you look like your sister?" Echo finally asked.

Vega stared at herself in the mirror as Lamb assisted her with situating the dark brown haired wig. If Vega was going to try and pass off as her sister, her blonde hair would have to hidden. She was tapping her fingers on the counter in front of her. Lamb could tell she was nervous.

"Everything will be fine Ms. Sonders. If things start to go south once you're inside, just say the safety word we agreed upon and we'll try to cause a distraction to cover you're escape." Lamb said, trying to put Vega at ease.

Vega touched the small earpiece in her ear and took a deep breath.

"You're right, we've made it this far. We can't back down now." Vega said in an attempt to reassure herself.

Lamb nodded.

"Now you go on ahead while I sort out something for the rest of us. I'm assuming they know what we all look like and I'm positive they'll have eyes around the station."

Vega left the room to join the others as Lamb began sorting through the various disguises she had.

"I say Holly, why didn't you tell Mr. Montresor about the duel transponder and changing nameplates? You allowed him to rummage around in your systems for no reason." Lamb asked as she continued sorting through things.

"Well, its a bit of a laugh enn'it. There he is pokin around in Otto and my systems, without asking I mite add, for ages all to give the Hand a stupid name for 20 seconds at best. All a bit redundant when we can just press a button and have a completely different legitimately registered ship with pilot ID and constantly updated flight logs to support the illusion. Still, I like to let the silly sort seem useful. .. .. even if he does forget to come to see an old mate after he's been invited"

Lamb stopped and looked up. Was that a touch of disappointment in Holly's voice?

"It does appear that we'll be working together for a while, perhaps the two of you will have a chance to catch up after we've straightened out the mess at hand." She said as she resumed what she was doing.

----------Carer Tech----------

Vega looked up at the monstrous building that was Carter Technology. With a deep breath and an adjustment of her business skirt, she started to approach the buildings entrance.

"Can you guys hear me?" She said after clearing her throat.

"Loud and clear." Maul's voice crackled through.

The rest of the gang we're stationed around the outside of the building. All of them trying to blend in with the crowd of people going about their daily lives.

Vega entered the building and approached the front desk. A long dark haired smiling woman sat behind the desk.

"Welcome to Carter Technology Centre. My name is Karina. It would be my pleasure to assist you today ma'am." The woman said with a gleaming smile.

Vega took a moment to try to adjust her face to the resting bitch face her sister always wore.

"I'm Tessa Sonders...of Cleve Hub. Run my name up the ladder. I'm sure your boss will want to have a chat."

Karina raised an eyebrow at Vega as she dialed in a call.

"Hello sir. Yes I have a Tessa Sonders here she-- Yes..." The woman's eyes grew huge as she stared at Vega. "Yes, right away sir."

Karina ended the call and turned her full attention back to Vega.

"Ms. Sonders, if you take the elevator behind me up to the 14th floor someone will be waiting to assist you."

Vega nodded and almost thanked her but that's not what Tessa would do. She instead kept silent and continued towards the elevator.

She entered the elevator alone and pressed the button for the 14th floor.

"You guys still hear me?" Vega asked again in a hushed tone this time.

"Yeah we're getting everything. You're doing great." Silas chimed in.

The elevator doors opened and a man in a suit stood waiting.

"Follow me Ms. Sonders." He said and started walking without looking back to check if she was following.

The hallways on this floor were empty, a stark contrast compared to the busy lobby downstairs, but judging by the chatter and clicking of keyboards, every room they walked by sounded as if it were occupied. They finally approached a room with double doors.

"In here." The man said nodding towards the doors.

Vega look at the man she'd been following and then to the doors. She twisted the handle and stepped in. The room was quite large but dimly lit by a few wall lamps lining the room. A long square table was sat in the middle with chairs all around it. It appeared to have been a meeting room of sorts. A handful of men with rifles were standing around the room. Only one man was sitting at the opposite end of the table. He was an older man, well dressed and in decent shape for his age.

"Please Ms. Sonders, have a seat. I feel we've got a lot to discuss and quite frankly, I don't have much time for this." The well dressed man said with a small hand gesture.

The man outside the room closed the door behind Vega as she stepped in and took a seat on the opposite end of the table. She'd hoped it was enough distance to keep this man from seeing through the disguise.

"I'll be honest, I'm surprised to see you...well...alive honestly. I'd heard from your own organization that you'd been murdered. I know they spun some sad sap story for the public but we both know how this business truly is, don't we?" The man stopped to grin and slightly lean back in his seat. "So what is a dead woman doing in Obambivas?"

Vega tried hard to keep her composure.

"Tell me, why exactly does your organization want me dead?" Vega asked.

The man's grin melted, to which Vega cracked a smile.

"That's right, your little failed assassination attempt gave me plenty of time to figure you out. Now, I'd like to know, what exactly does your organization gain from my death and the death of my corporation?"

The man sat back up straight and locked his fingers on the table.

"You mean the corporation that was brought to it's knees by a hand full of hackers?" The man laughed. "We made you what you are Ms Sonders, but you were getting a bit too big for your boots and honestly, Yog-Sothoth had everything they'd needed from you. It was merely an expiration date, nothing more. But I see now that I was wrong to trust in your sisters ability to kill you."

"What'd he just say?" Raven's voice appeared in Vega's earpiece.

"What's he talking about Vega?" Asked Maul.

Vega took out the ear piece and powered it off. She looked up at the well dressed man who was smiling ear to ear. Vega then yanked the wig off and threw it on the table.

"It was a good try, love, really, but I knew it was you the moment our eyes locked. That sparkle in your eyes is something your sister never had. I sometimes question if she's even human."

Vega wanted to kill him, but she'd be shot dead before she could stand up.

"Right, now if you're finished playing dress up. Let's talk about the debt you owe us. You're sister is still alive, you did not fulfill your contract. We can either kill you and your new friends or you can fulfill the contract and get paid the amount we previously agreed upon. I feel that we're being more than generous considering you essentially failed to uphold you're end of the deal."

Vega snarled.

"I don't want your fucking credits anymore. You bastards are partially responsible for Lydia's death. This stupid scuffle between Yog-Sothoth and The Corporation is what got her killed. She was a fucking child for Gods sake! I'd rather die than help you and your gang of lunatics."

Just then the double doors swung open. The rest of the gang were being held at gunpoint. This time by a group of men covered in tattoos and cybernetics.

"Ah yes, there they are. Please everyone, have a seat. We were just discussing Ms. Sonders' outstanding contract with Yog-Sothoth."

The well dressed man stood up and looked at the tatted out 'servants' as everyone was reluctantly picking seats.

"I'm assuming you checked them for weapons?"

"S'right, this one got a little mouthy when we tried to take the blades she thought she had hidden." One of the servants said referring to Lamb. "Can't hide anything from these things, sweetheart." He said as he tapped one of his cybernetic eyes.

"Perfect! Now, depending on how this discussion plays out, you all might be able to walk out of here with all of your little weapons and gadgets." The well dressed man said with a smile.

"Oh, from now on you can refer to me as Mr. Usher, if it will make things easier."

Maul snapped his gaze onto the man. Mr. Usher nodded at Maul.

"That's right Mr. Montresor, we know about him as well. But no worries, I'm not the actual Mr. Usher. He was killed unfortunately. Shot through the head. Gruesome scene, that was. Oh, what am I talking about? You already knew that, seeing as how you're the one who killed him and all." He said with a laugh.

Mr. Usher then smiled and directed his attention to the rest of the group.

"Mr. Usher is not my real name but it will have to do for now. After this meeting, you'll probably never see my face again anyhow."

Mr. Usher looked around at all the agitated faces staring back at him. The agitated gazes bouncing back and forth between Mr. Usher and Vega. Everyone was a tad confused at the whole situation.

"My my, you all have been quite the naughty sort, haven't you?"

Mr Usher smiled and began talking to the group as a whole as he counted with his fingers.

"Hauser's Reach. Cleve Hub. Ray Gateway. Hondo City. That's just to name a few!"

He then pointed at Silas and looked at Raven and Echo.

"How about that questionable exit from military service, Mr. Cousland? Should we start openly discussing that?"

Then to Lamb and Kai.

"Or what about the two young girls on Cleve Hub just looking for justice. Heartbreaking, really."

Then to Maul and Lamb.

"Oh, another good one. Hauser's Reach! What a mess you two made, huh?"

Then to Vega.

"And of course, a poor girl in debt with a heart so small that she'd kill her own sister just to get by. Lydia was just an after though, wasn't she? Ah never mind that. It truly must have been hard taking care of your sick parents all alone like you did. I don't blame you for feeling some hatred towards Tessa."

Then to Naomi.

"I...I don't actually...know...Who are you exactly?"

Naomi looked around at everyone and then back to Mr. Usher.

"N..Naomi, sir..."

"Ah, doesn't matter!" Mr User said, throwing his hand up as he sat back down. Everyone began to look around at each other with curious glances.

"Now, let's discuss business shall we?" He said with an almost cartoon villain like grin.

Maul Montresor
"Ah, doesn't matter!" Mr User said, throwing his hand up as he sat back down. Everyone began to look around at each other with curious glances.

"Now, let's discuss business shall we?" He said with an almost cartoon villain like grin.

Lamb pushed her arms down by her side, turned out her hands and stretched.

“Bangs on a bit doesn’t he?”  she remarked as if she was watching rubbish on TV but couldn’t be bothered to change the channel.

Echo was counting under his breath but couldn’t resist making a comment.

“After that monolog, anyone could build a damning psych-eval. I’d bet it’s rooted in ..” he wiggled his little finger and let out a small high-pitched whistle. Raven sniggered.

Kai put her feet on the desk and they were instantly slapped down by one of the thugs that had nabbed them. She pulled a goofy face at him.

“If I’m not allowed to get comfy for this chit-chat, can I at least get a coffee?” Kai glanced at one of the be-suited bodyguards “You, Jeeves. Rich roast if you please. Chop chop”

Not-Mr-Usher was a little perturbed, but he expected flippancy from this group even after impressing upon them the breadth of the organisations knowledge of their past. What did bother him was Sails being silent.

“Nothing to say Creamsicle?”  Usher gestured to one of the tattooed men. “Bruno, check his mouth please”

Silas tilted his head back and opened his mouth in advance concentrating on keeping count, but Bruno still grabbed his hair and rammed his fingers into Silas’ mouth.

“Nuffin there sir” Said Bruno wiping his fingers on Silas’ shoulder.

Silas sucked his cheeks and tongue, then he spat a globdule onto the desk in front of Not-Mr-Usher. He took a deep breath, made eye contact with the so-called master-mind and started talking to him.

“So you got your marks right?”

Not-Mr-Usher smiled and nodded, this man understood they had no choice but to obey. Silas continued.

“Remember to stay in your quarters as we won’t be seeing much, but some of them will. Stop everything in your zone. Raven swap with Lamb, that one is gonna need more upper body strength”

Confusion furrowed Not-Mr-Ushers’ brow, but his bodyguards knew something was coming. A loud wet thump drew Ushers’ attention away from Silas. A big gooey splat oozed down the window with something like an egg in the middle of it.  Surprise can’t adequately describe Not-Mr-Ushers’ expression when he looked back at his hostages. Each one of them had their fingers in their ears, eyes tight shut and all of them were treating him to a big stupid toothy grin.

The window blew out with a loud concussive force. Two more projectiles followed the reinforced glass into the room and each one of them also detonated with a loud noise, a bright flash and enough force to knock down everyone in the room. Silas’ team was already on the floor and avoided the worst of the detonation. What helped them the most was being ready for it.

Usher opened his eyes. He could taste blood on his lips and see yellow flashes in the smoke that were definitely gunshots but the noise was muffled in his aching ears. Something like a large soccer ball drifted out of the smoke towards him and he could swear it was playing the cavalry charge bugle as it smacked him in the head before floating off.

Leith could see just fine, he could see his uncle blindly smashing some poor guys face in whit his elbow. Raven was having a bit of trouble fighting off some big guy that didn’t seem at all bothered by the smoke. Leith changed his projector to show a bull's head and flew at the big man’s face. The impact stunned him just enough for Raven to get the upper hand. That was enough fun; Leith had a job to do. He found Vega and Naomi on the floor where they were told to stay until he had shown up. He drifted down and touched their hands.

“Ok ladies, if you would like to follow me, your chariot awaits”

Leith took them to the blown-out window and left them to sort getting on the waiting AV bike themselves. He still had to drop the maglocks on the doors.

When the noise of fighting died down and the smoke had cleared, Usher risked peering out from his hiding place under the desk.  The new girl was passing people their equipment from a couple of AV bikes parked halfway through the broken window. Silas had just put his coat on and he was function checking his carbine. All of them were up and armed; Ushers’ security was exactly the opposite. The floating ball thing turned a holographic face on Usher.

“You!” it sneered as it floated over to him “You grab everyone, even the intern as if she’s any danger, but not me. Oh no, not the cyberform” Leith darted forward *head-butting* Usher. “Fuckin racist”

“Ok Leith, that’ll do man” said Silas calmly “Echo, Raven; bag him up in case he’s traceable. Maul, how long you gonna need? We’re on the clock here”

Maul peered up from his screen watching the two guys stuffing Not-Mr-Usher into radio-active samples bag after stripping him of weapons, slates and a wallet. They deposited all that into another smaller sample bag.

“Umm, I don’t know. I’ll get what I can before we have to go”

Silas nodded and turned to address the rest of the team.

“Extraction team, go liberate the ships and take Leith and Naomi with you. Remember a pillion really messes with the handling of them things”

Kai, Lamb and Echo started shuffling AV bikes so they could get on with their mission”

Leith hovered in front of Silas projecting his own face, though a little more handsome than he had been in life.

“Hey unck, it was cool to be on-op with you man. Nice to be more than an autopilot you know”

Silas raised his hand for a hologrammatic hi-five.

“Couldn’t have done it without you man, just see to it they get something docked at the access port before this entire station comes down on us”

Silas addressed everyone that didn’t yet have a job to do.

“Raven, you take Maul the long way round and cause some distractions to help us get to the pickup point without a tail. Vega, you’re with me and the body-bag" Finished Sails’ kicking Usher in what he assumed was his ass.

Creamy Goodness III

"Shall we go back to the VIP lounge or would you care to move on? Afraid I spent too much on clothes and equipping my old Cobra to secure an apartment, but I have had a first-class cabin fitted. They have all the features of a five-star hotel don'ch know? Well, if you allow me to play the part of room service that is"

"Ca... cabin?"

Somewhere in the back of Nerys' head, a little voice finally managed to press the emergency button that had been out of its reach for the whole evening.

Are you really going to do something really stupid, girl?

"Well..." Nerys took a deep breath, trying to choose carefully her words. "Yes, actually it's late and I am quite tired. It has been a wonderful evening and you are an awesome friend. I would like to try the bed in the new ship... After all, I am sure I will spend a lot of nights in there when I'll be out in the black..."

Creamy Goodness III
Some where at the back of the dance floor, four men got ready to follow Creamy out of the club.

Too distracted by the flashes of her internal danger signal, obviously Nerys failed miserably to notice something.
07 Apr 2020, 10:09pm
"Oh I never like to think of being alone, especially when someone as unique as you is dominating my senses doctor"

Put my suit jacket over Nerys' shoulders as we leave the club and tip the valet outside, then wait patiently for him to fetch my station pod. Try to ignore the valet raising an eyebrow at me and not trotting off to fetch my ride.

"Excuse me Lord Goodness, you didn't arrive in a vehicle" The blank look Creamy was giving the valet encouraged a more in-depth explanation. "You did in fact .. saunter to the club with a confident swagger if my lord would permit the descriptive" finished the valet hoping to keep hold of the generous tip.

Look over the little man's head and think for a moment aiming to keep the *Oh yeah* realization to myself. Glance at Nerys to find a remarkably straight face with shining eyes looking back at me"

"I say sweetness, would you mind awfully if we just trot on before I make a further boob of my self?" I ask smirking at my own foolishness.

Guide Nerys through the artificially dimmed twilight of the evening station pointing out places of interest as we pass them on the way to a taxi rank I know while enjoying a view of the glistening ice rocks that make up the rings of the planet this station orbits.

Stop for a moment under a huge window that offers a fantastic view of the rings stretching out in all directions like a slice of stellar snowstorm. Without saying a word, look down into Nerys' eyes. With her head tipped up looking at the rings, her mouth is slightly open perfect for a first kiss. Reach my free hand up and gently hold her cheek as I lean down slowly.. and stop frozen in shock when I feel the barrel of a gun pushed into my back.

“Well well well. Charlie Gooden, fancy you coming back here after wot you pulled” Growls a gravelly voice that wouldn’t be out of place in a cheesy wrestling show.

Two more men step out of the shadows ahead of us and I catch a third in the corner of my eye to my right.

Whisper to Nerys “Sorry for what I’m about to do”

Before she can react lean back and swing her by the arm 270 degrees making it look like I’m going to use her to hit the man with the gun. Instead, aim a kick at the weapon sending it into the air and change foot using the momentum Nerys is giving me to deliver a devastating kick to the side of the mans’ head.

Just before I let go of Nerys yell “RUN DOCTOR” and tune to tackle the other three just hoping to give Nerys time to discard her lovely shoes and get out of here.

Nerys enjoyed the walk with Creamy. He was funny and pleasant, and he had been so incredibly generous... Yet she didn't feel ready for... well, there were a couple of tiny Nerys flying around her head, one with devil horns and the other one with angel wings, and they were arguing furiously about how to end the evening.

The station was wonderful. The huge mirrors that brought solar light inside were partially folded for the "night" and the external windows offered a wonderful view of the whole Robigo system.

No sky like this one on the Earth, this is for sure.

Then Creamy's mouth moved closer to hers, and the little devil hit the little angel on the head with her pitchfork, and he said sorry, and...

Sorry?
Why should he be so
OOOOOOOOFFH!

Thrown aside like a cork, Nerys first felt her arm violently yanked, then she lost her balance and stumbled on her heels, while the first attacker received the kick on his head.

What the...

"RUN DOCTOR"

Ohmygodtheyaregoingtokillus

Nerys tried to get back on her feet. One of the heels, already put to the test by the dance, suddenly broke, sending a twist of pain in her right ankle.

I have to get out of here!

She saw Creamy throwing himself against the other assailants... three against one, he will get killed!... and out of the corner of her eye she glimpsed a metallic reflection falling near the external window.

The gun!

The time seemed to slow down like when the pirate had tried to interdict the Fairytale. And like in that occasion, Nerys saw herself from the outside, like a near-death experience, totally unable to alter her actions. With a push of her good heel, she ripped the broken sandal from the right foot and threw herself towards the gun.

Ineverusedagunwhatshouldidowithit

BANG!

It was a projectile weapon, not a laser, and the recoil smacked the gun butt against her nose, breaking her glasses. The Firestar HE-6 "dumdum" bullet, highly illegal in almost every corner of the galaxy, reached the left knee of the man who was grabbing Creamy's throat, and exploded, throwing around little shrapnels of metal and bone. the assailant let out an inhuman scream, dropping to the floor like a rock.

"Creamy, RUN!" Nerys yelled, trying to get up.
08 Apr 2020, 4:54pm
Recover my senses and free my self of the remaining men who are just as stunned as I am after the gunshot.

"Sage advice that girl!"

Run over to Nerys and help her to her feet by holding on to the wrist of her gun hand mostly to keep the dangerous end pointed away from anyone including our attacks.  Knowing the security on this station is trigger happy and corrupt, waist no time wondering who these men are and why they want me. Haul Nerys upright surprised at how much strength I've lost thanks to not being able to afford gym time for a while, and start running keeping the doctor held tight around her waist and my other hand on the gun.

I'm confident in my self-defense skills, but I know for a fact my ability to run is Olympic level, and getting Nerys and that gun away from what is now a crime scene is important. My jacket, parts of Nerys' shoe and her glasses is quite enough evidence left behind already.  Head for the taxi rank and listen to the feet chasing us. Sounds like just one man now, so change direction and head quietly towards the Maglev station, that should be almost empty this time of night.

Stop for a moment instinctively coving Nerys as our pursuers foot falls thunder past on the way to the taxi rank.  Look at the small cut bruise on Nerys' eyebrow where the gun hit her. Take my tie off after relieving Nerys of the gun and dab the wound.

"Are you alright Doctor? Can you see well enough to fly?"

After the gun shooting, Nerys' brain entered a complete lockdown for some seconds, so she did not realize immediately that Creamy was carrying her away.

The nose wound was just a scratch, but the concussion had driven crazy her internal sensors. Bright flashes of light, lists of nonexistent chemical compounds, phantom foul smells and tastes were flooding wildly into her brain cortex.

After an eternity of nausea, she vaguely realized that Creamy had put her down.

Creamy Goodness III

"Are you alright Doctor? Can you see well enough to fly?"

Unfortunately, the gentle dab on her nose was not so gentle for her overloaded system. She pushed away his tie and tilted her head down.

How the hell was the emergency shutdown procedure?

Nerys stuck out her tongue and with her finger tapped three times in a precise spot. The comical gesture was definitely bizarre in such a dramatic situation, but at least it succeeded. Abruptly, the sensor overload ended and, for the first time in two years, Nerys was able to smell and taste normally.

And the first taste she perceived was her own blood on the lips.

"I am... fine" she said, touching her nose. It hurt like hell, but her expert fingers found no signs of fractures. "What about you? Are you hurt? And... fly? Are we leaving the station?"

Watch mildly slack-jawed for a second time in as many minuets as Nerys plays with her tongue.

“Wharr?”

Letting her words run through my mind again, wondering if that bump on the head with the rather hefty gun now in my hand did more damage than it appears.

“Um, I mean what? Yes yes I’m fine. Not used to being the damsel in distress, but I’m always up for something new”

Realize I have one hand on the wall looming over Nerys who is hurt and I’m wearing my playful smile trying to flirt with her again. Chastise myself internally and try to push down the adrenalin rush.

“Oh well anyway yes, I think we should leave. Someone is hunting.. ..” Furrow my brow and look to the stars above for inspiration “.. ..probably me, and you shot a chap in the knee”

Think about what I just said and try to soften the impact of my last statement.

“.. but it was a cybernetic leg by the looks of it so no harm done ay?”

Usually lying is as easy as breathing for me, but this time feels odd.

“Arr, the mag station is just down the way there and that’ll take us to the docks. Best to leave before the Security teams arrive I feel”

Or the friends of the people after me I think to myself.

Nerys nodded, then she fumbled a bit with the sandal buckle, and threw the shoe in a garbage bin. The metal floor was cold under her bare feet while they boarded the maglev train. Her hair was ruffled, the green dress was ripped in some points, but at least she had saved her father's necklace.

"One week in space, and I am already a criminal" she sighed when they were approaching the docks. "Seems that I will be forced to return to Inara sooner than I had planned, and to avoid Robigo jurisdiction for a while. Do you have a ship you can use now?"

Look at the floor of the carriage taking note once more of Nerys' naked feet. Contemplate for a moment not being honest about the state of the Cobra I have under refit. I could tell a little fib about waiting for a part or something and perhaps get an invitation to accompany Nerys back to Citi Gateway. Let that image sit in my head a moment before answering with a sigh.

"It was almost the perfect evening wasn't it Doctor?" Look into her eyes but focus instead on the bruise realizing just how guilty I feel for her current situation. Try to lighten the mood for both of us. "You know, I don't usually get chased off until after I kiss the girl"

Give Nerys a bright playful smile.

"Yes, my Cobra is refitted and ready for action. Just a shame that action is in the area of passenger transporting. Right now I wish I had her decked out for combat"

Take Nerys' soft hand and cup it in both of mine after tucking the gun behind my back.

"You take off as soon as you can and I'll follow to interfere with anyone that may scan your wake. Don't head straight for your destination, in fact do go to Newholm in Sothis and pick up some of that crystallized gold I told you about. It'll make a great return cargo for you"

Take the tie out of my pocket and hand it to Nerys.

"You may want to clean that up a little" pointing in between her eyebrows. "After I've seen you off, I'll hang round here and check the investigation runs in the usual Robigo way. That is to say, it comes to nothing once they realize there is no profit in pursuing the investigation. Capitalism ay?"

Giving Nerys a *What can you do* shrug.

Lambast Mercy
“Raven, you take Maul the long way round and cause some distractions to help us get to the pickup point without a tail. Vega, you’re with me and the body-bag" Finished Sails’ kicking Usher in what he assumed was his ass.

The extraction team had already headed off, but Maul was still trying to grab as much information as he could.

"30 seconds" Silas said to Maul, keeping his carbine trained on the door.

Raven hopped on the bike and started shuffling and stretching to get limber and comfortable.

"15 seconds"

Maul heard him, but was too focused on his task to respond.

"Time to go. We'll follow in another 30." Silas said.

"Don't worry boss, we'll make some noise for you." Raven said, kicking the bike in gear as Maul grabbed his gear and jumped on the back.

"Let's rock and roll!" he said, tapping Raven's shoulder. He gunned the throttle and off they went.

They picked up a tail immediately, as was the plan, and Raven tore off toward some side alleys.

Maul, hanging on to Raven with one arm strapped his slate to Raven's back so that he could work one-handed, and got to work tapping away.

A quick rear-view check showed three goons, also on bikes, following a little close for comfort. The leading rider leveled a gun at them and opened fire. Raven and Maul ducked and hung a sharp right into a business back-alley. The riders followed.

Ahead was the back of a restaurant, and the first thing that caught Raven's eye was their industrial deep-fryer. He drew his sword and swiped at the tank on their way by. He couldn't check, but based on the screams he knew he'd done something useful.

Maul spun his head to see that the left-hand rider had taken a spray of hot grease to the face, and had tumbled into a storage shed with a loud crash. The lead rider made to fire again.

"Turn!" Maul shouted at Raven, who swung another right off the alley onto the street and gunned the throttle toward the intersection.

Maul tapped away on the slate some more, ending with a flourish and a grin and turning to observe the chaos as all four lights turned green at the same time. Traffic immediately gridlocked into a few fender-benders and the other two riders, seeing a green light, hadn't bothered to slow down. One pancaked into the side of a transport truck with a splat, and the other flew off his bike, over the pile up, and headfirst through the front window of a storefront.

"Nice one" Raven said to Maul, holding his non-throttle fist over his shoulder for a bump.

-----

"Cover the door." Silas said to Vega, hoisting the bag-of-not-Usher onto the back of the bike and strapping it down, making sure the load was secure and uncomfortable.

"OK we're good, time to go!" he said, securing his carbine and sitting on the bike. Vega hopped on the back and Silas took off toward the pickup point.

Taking off toward ground level, they didn't immediately see a tail, but what they did see were traffic backups everywhere. As far as they could tell, every traffic light in the quarter was green...

"Oh, Maul..." Vega said, shaking her head.

Nerys was on the verge.

Maybe on the verge of exploding, maybe on the verge of an hysterical crisis, she didn't know exactly, but anyway it was not a good sensation.

"Listen" she growled. "Are you saying that those men could chase us in space? And you want to stay here, hiding from them and from the police, and then you want to distract them with a passenger ship? Well, excuse me if this seems a very stupid plan... like dealing alone with four armed men, by the way."

Nerys pointed her finger towards the two adjacent docking bays, 7 and 8, where the Sidewinder and the DBX were waiting. "We are two and we have two armed ships" she said. "I say, let's put some light years between us and those guns, now. If they want to follow us, we'll double our chances. You can always come back when the dust settles."

Raise an eyebrow at the tone the Doctor has chosen to take with me and listen with interest to the tongue lashing I was being treated too.

Nerys Nymei

"Listen" she growled. "Are you saying that those men could chase us in space? And you want to stay here, hiding from them and from the police, and then you want to distract them with a passenger ship? Well, excuse me if this seems a very stupid plan... like dealing alone with four armed men, by the way."

Don't let the fact I find her rage rather entertaining as the good Doctor could be using anger to cover deep fear. Anyway, she was also raising some very good issues.

Follow her fingers as she points to the docking bays as if hypnotized by her movements and then look at her angry worried face while she explains her, fair and sensible plan.

Nerys Nymei
"We are two and we have two armed ships. I say, let's put some light-years between us and those guns, now. If they want to follow us, we'll double our chances. You can always come back when the dust settles."

"Nerys, our two ships are, and I mean no disrespect, a metal shoebox and a storage unit with thrusters. What's more, I'm no good at ship to ship fighting. As it stands, I think I'm the one they are after and you are not even on their list, I would dearly like to keep it that way Doctor Nymei"

Hold her hands to help comfort her, but resist the urge to hug her to me as I have no wish to hide my face from Nerys at this moment.  I want her to see how confident and level headed I am approaching this matter.

"It is true that I am a rotten sort in a lot of respects, but chivalry has been bred into my bloodline for generations untold.  It would be nigh impossible for me to knowingly put you in harm's way simply by flying with you"

"My dear Nerys, from your point of view, being tracked by men this way is high danger but for me, it's just another Thursday afternoon. Angry chaps wanting my head is not unusual and on this station where I can use my fast legs and well-trained fists, I can keep out of serious trouble while checking you are in the clear. With the few friends I have here, I'll be alright and I'll leave after I have found out what hornet's nest I've stumbled into this time"

"Please trust me Doctor Nymei. I want you to look in the mirror and see the esteemable woman I described to you back on Citi Gateway. If you stood in front of a mirror now, you would see a bruised face, broken glasses, a ripped dress, and dirty shoeless feet. All of that is my fault and I can not let that stand. Right now you should be wondering if you should leave my cabin or stay for another drink, yet here we are"

Stand back from the Doctor and start rolling up my shirt sleeves.

"I have business that requires my attention Doctor" Give Nerys a courtly bow "I have promised my services to you, now you must let me see to those duties"

Nerys clenched her fists.

"Damn" she said. "Damn, damn, damn".

Her first reaction was to stay there. She didn't like at all the idea of leaving Creamy alone in that situation. Another Thursday afternoon my ass, she thought.

Yet he was right. He knew that jungle, she did not. She had been lucky one time, but she was a doctor, not a fighter.

"I'll go" she said. "But don't dare get yourself killed, or I'll buy an Ouija board and I will summon your ghost every night only to tell you how stupid you have been."

Then she pressed a button on the dock terminal console. "Celeste" she said. "Give pilot authorization of the Sidewinder to Creamy Goodness, effective immediately".

"Done, Commander".

"I'll leave you my father's metal shoebox. She has a couple of lasers, she's fast, and if someone is keeping an eye on your Cobra, at least you'll have an unmarked escape door".

Nerys had many other things to say, but time was running fast and all those things were tangling in her throat. Besides, her sight wasn't very clear, but it wasn't because of tears, no. Just because of the missing glasses. Yes. No tears at all. Absolutely.

Quickly she planted a light kiss on Creamy's lips.

"Take care of yourself" she whispered. "See you at Inara".

Then she ran up the DBX access ramp.

******

"Celeste, take-off, now. Possibly without attracting attention".

"Roger, Commander. Silent running activated. We'll fly between the station sweep scans."

"Good girl. Set a course for Inara... but throw in three or four navpoints before that".

"Roger"

"And, Celeste..."

"Yes, Commander?"

"Do we have my spare glasses on board?"

"Negative, Commander. They are on your cabinet on the Sidewinder".

"Crap. Well, you have their files in your memory. Make a copy of them with the 3D printer of the repair station. I don't even see the canopy without glasses".

"Roger, Commander. Printing now".

"Call me if there is something urgent. I need to take off this ruined dress, take a shower, check this stupid nose, repair the damaged sensor and restart my implant. In this order".

"Aye, Commander".

Keep quiet with a stern face maintaining eye contact with the Doctor so she knows I’m listening to her and not ignoring her opinion.

Nerys Nymei "Celeste, give pilot authorization of the Sidewinder to Creamy Goodness, effective immediately".

"Done, Commander".

"I'll leave you my father's metal shoebox. She has a couple of lasers, she's fast, and if someone is keeping an eye on your Cobra, at least you'll have an unmarked escape door"

Work hard to stop my jaw from flapping and my eyes from widening after Nerys trusts me to keep her last connection to her farther safe while offering me an escape should I need it. The kiss was unexpected but very welcome.

Stand still watching Nerys leave me behind and don’t turn to leave until I’m sure she can’t see me. Run as fast as I can to the quite distant bay that houses my Cobra, Extramarital Affairs that I still need to re-name in honour of Nubs. Run to the cockpit and throw myself into the pilot seat.

“Ninette, stage left protocol if you please. Quick as you like sweetness”

“Immédiatement. Vous vous enfuyez ou vous poursuivez quelqu'un?” inquires my favourite computer.

“Sort of chasing this time. I want to cover her wake in case someone that is after me, is going to chase her too”

“Sa? Encore une fois, vous utilisez le lit d'une femme lorsque son mari est absent”

A digital scolding after Nerys’ ear-bending is somewhat expected. Ninette was carefully programmed to sound like an ex-girlfriend turn confidant.

“No! I don’t believe she’s even married. Anyway, she kissed me and that’s all. I’ll tell you all about her as we get out of the station and cover her escape”

Look for the DBX as soon as I can open the contacts panel while explaining my regrettably short history with Nerys to Ninette. Fall in behind the new Fairytale and follow it from a safe distance. Once I get the report that her FDS is charging, reach for my guitar.

“Elle me sonne comme une bonne femme. Vous êtes idiot de la quitter”

“She is Ninette, and I am. Now, what do you think, Killer Queen is a fitting serenade for her wouldn’t you agree? Start the backing track would you my dear?”

“NON Creamy. Après ce que vous avez dit, je pense Where Do You Go To My Lovely mieux à ce que vous m'avez dit”

Think about the lyrics and smile to my self feeling lucky to have such an intelligent computer that knows me so well.

“Without you, I would be half of all I am”

Open all communication channels and have Ninette start saturating the area with all the electronic noise she can muster as I sing the song. Watch the thrusters on Fairytale glow intensely as its FSD countdown ticks away taking the good Doctor to safety.

Sit on top of her wake signature ignoring all the threats of the local pilots complaining about the ancient soppy song I’m broadcasting to all in range. Just keep singing and watch for any ships that may be intending to give chase.
