:: A BIOGRAPHY OF ALLAN QUATERMAIN ::
Born Allan Maximilian Quatermain to Ambassador Patrick Quatermain and Elissa Quatermain (nee Tanner) in 3267 aboard the Imperial Navy Frigate INV Audacious, en route to Ambassador Quatermain’s new posting on Wolf 1453.
Childhood
Allan’s father, Ambassador Patrick Quatermain served in the Imperial Diplomatic Corps and both he and his wife were originally from Cubeo. Allan, their firstborn, was born enroute to Ambassador Patrick Quatermain’s posting on Wolf 1453 in Federation space. Allan’s sister Alicia was born in 3271, when Allan was four, and his brother Maximus when Allan was seven. Though he enjoyed a close and loving relationship with his parents, Allan was primarily raised by the Ambassadorial staff and the sterling efforts of his mother Elissa, he was often seen at play or at study in the Imperial Embassy.
Shortly after the birth of Maximus, Ambassador Patrick Quatermain was posted to Duamta, Allan continued independent studies under the close tutelage of Imperial Mentor Theophelus Moreaux.
Allan’s youth centred on the Imperial Embassy and the Imperial diplomatic premise in the mountains. At home in the Imperial Embassy, Allan’s life was highly regimented with study under his Mentor, and training under Sergeant Marius Thrain of the Imperial Navy Marine Force. The times of play or exploration in the city or the country were always accompanied by the Sergeant. Allan was awed at the Marine in his uniform, and as Allan grew the two went 1through many phases. The phase of playfulness where Allan would attempt his very best escaping the watch of the Sergeant.
“Escape the Marine” led Allan and Marius on many adventures. One occasion when Allan had escaped the sight of the Marine, he ran into a group of older local Federation boys, who recognising Allan’s ID as Imperial decided to pick a fight. He held his own, before Marius turned the corner and chased off the bullies. Allan felt cheated of the opportunity to stand up for himself and the experience pushed Allan into a brief period of resentment. Allan saw how other children outside of the Embassy spurned him, and acted differently when the Sergeant was within sight.
But Allan had been brought up to share his concerns and problems in another, and that person was his Mentor Theophelus. Theophelus counselled Allan to speak with Marius and to conquer the resentment by positive action. Sure enough Allan plucked up the courage and asked Marius to give Allan the space to stand up for his own self. The Marine, marveling at the young man growing up, consented and gave Allan some ground rules. Marius began training the lad in sparring and combat. From that point on, Allan and Marius became fast friends. Marius gave Allan more space, and in times when Allan got into scuffles, he would stand back out of sight. Allan followed the ground rules - one-on-one, and the moment the aggressor called in reinforcements (as was often the case against a child with Imperial Marine close combat training), Allan would call in his own.
But it was in the mountains near the Imperial diplomatic residence that Allan really thrived. It was the many trips in the Embassy Courier to that residence, that enamored Allan with piloting. He would often cajole the pilot into performing some acrobatics that would have caused his mother to faint, had she found out. Even Marius had to put his foot down sometimes. Allan and Marius explored the great outdoors together. In the countryside Marius would teach Allan exploration techniques, survival, equipment maintenance and combat. At home Theophelus would teach Allan politics, philosophy, history, sciences, mathematics and economics.
Allan was the type of child that excelled under this type of tutelage, the individual attention and education, allowed him to absorb the materials like a sponge. And his childhood education at the hands of some of the best that the Empire could offer, that gave him a great head start. Allan was an exemplary student, fiercely loyal and deeply committed to the chivalry instilled into him by his father and his mentors from a young age.
In 3291, at the ripe age of 14, Allan announced his intention to join the Imperial Navy and to serve as an officer. The Ambassador and his wife had hoped Allan would follow in the Diplomatic service, but it was clear the stars called at the lad. The Ambassador arranged for Allan to join the Imperial Naval Academy Preparatory School on the family homeworld, Cubeo.
During his time at the Preparatory School he read extensively into politics and noticed a deep discomfort around the Empire’s use of forced slavery. His time in Federation space had taught him a great deal of human respect, even if their ways were deeply corrupt and flawed. He received extracurricular Elocution Lessons, and in time became adept at using the Achenarian accent.
Imperial Navy Academy and Navy Career
In 3295, at the age of 18 Allan graduated from the Imperial Naval Academy Preparatory School and progressed into the Imperial Naval Academy for commissioning as an Imperial Naval Officer in the Intelligence Corps. Little did Allan know that Marius worked hard behind the scenes to help speed Allan on his way through the Imperial Naval Academy, though as things turned out, Allan had little need for it.
During his time at the Imperial Naval Academy, Allan excelled in tactical outplay and maneuver warfare. He was inducted into the Advanced Maneuver Warfare Instructors Program, and participated in the Academy Time Trials around the Cubeo system ranking third overall in a class of 500.
In 3300, Allan graduated Summa cum Laude, and applied to the Imperial Navy Special Operations branch, which he was speedily inducted into. Allan was assigned to the 551st Strike Wing “The Spectres”, reporting to the Majestic-class Interdictor INV Renown. Official accounts of his missions with the Spectres are Category 9 Top Secret, though heavily redacted versions are available to lower security grade personnel.
At the end of one tour in early 3303 before he joined the Prismatic Imperium, Allan was involved in a highly public incident that would forever change his fate. Little did he know to what extent the corroborated combat logs would be publicised. Riding on the unexpected publicity, he was sponsored into the Pilots Federation by representatives of the Imperial Diplomatic Corps. Despite earning his “independence”, he continued in service to the Imperial Navy and was received into the Prismatic Imperium’s Vigor unit on Cubeo III by Lord Warden Trinity A. Craft. Under the auspice of Imperial Navy section Cubeo and the Prismatic Imperium’s Vigor unit, Allan ran extensive and successful missions to build up the Empire’s influence.
Fighting in numerous wars and participating in the efforts to progress the influence of Her Majesty Aisling Duval, Allan earned the rank of Duke in the Imperial Navy. In late 3304, he received mission orders from Imperial Navy High Command to reprise missions with The Spectres. He disappeared from Cubeo space and his duties to Vigor without trace. The nature of the missions with The Spectres is Vermillion-level security locked, there are only a few who whisper of their work.
Orbital Drops deep in hostile territory, covert operations, sabotage of enemy supply lines. Some say they had extensive Special Operations training. Enemies of the Empire disappeared, and whispers of an unidentified wing flying unidentified black ships - usually Federal of origin, began circling.
