Mining?...what is that?

New log entry...I made one yesterday, but because of malfunction of the system, it didn't save, so I am writing it again.I got to Sol system alright. I saw Earth, Jupiter, Saturn...all that. Felt sort of familiar, but not as much as home, almost like a sacred place. Couldn't bring myself to try to go through one of the Jupiter rings to scavenge for some materials. Felt weird. Also, on that note...I realized, it is silly to think I will be able to explore much of the never-ending universe with 10ly of jump range. It's more like a crawl than a flight. So, I decided to make some money and buy a ship with decent range and proper explorer fitting. A ship I would love to have would be a Dolphin from Saud Kruger company. That is some sleek design. That is though 1.3 mil credits, maybe twice as much for proper fitting. But how do one make money? Everyone is talking about mining, so I thought, let's try that. I parked my Viper at the one of the ports around Mercury and bought a basic mining equipment...two medium mining lasers, prospector and collector limpets, refinery and reorganized cargo space...I should also buy a detailed surfaced scanner, but I was short of money...f@ck it, let's go blind, let the force guide my way.
I wasn't really sure where to go mining...I didn't wanna risk one of the resource extraction sites, because I was too of an easy snack for a hungry pirates there, having no weapons and stripped down shield generator. So I figured the best bet would be an asteroid belt, so I jumped to a adjoining
system where I found one close to the system's main star. Parked my ship there and started my mining. Shortly after I started, a ship appeared and run a scan on me...a pirate...asking if I have anything interesting...lucky I was, I still didn't have anything and he lost interest and got away (even if I was clearly there to mine...silly boy). I filled my refinery 100%, but since I only had one bin and since for some strange reason the refinery refused to transfer the material to the cargo hold, I was forced to leave and sell it. I still am not sure why that didn't work....the refinery should have emptied the refined material to the cargo and collect new raw material from my mining. But that didn't happen and I was stuck with one toner of mining and that was it. So I sold it back at the Sol system and made 1500 credits...what a fortune, huh... :/ I figured I am doing it wrong and decided I will rather go back to prospecting nearby systems and sell the data to the cartography. It is not very lucrative business, but I already knew how to do that.So I re-equipped the Viper...again...stored the mining tools for later when I learn how to mine....and went to sleep. Just before falling into my dreams, I realized I could also try to hunt some pirates in the resource extractions sites and help out a local authorities. Next time.
