Road to Beagle Point, Day 03
Well...it's the third day of travel to Beagle Point, and I think it's time to take a break and take a summary of the past few weeks. First of all..."why Beagle Point?" well, the answer is very easy...why not?
The idea came to me four days ago, after visiting the HR 6164 system named "The View", a system that I recommend everyone to visit. The main celestial body is a O (Blue-White) Star (HR 6164 A), but the most interesting celestial bodies are undoubtedly the two Black Holes (HR 6164 B and HR 6164 D) and the Neutron Star (HR 6164 C).
Here I took my time to visit HR 6164 ABC 2 a, a landable rocky body in orbit around a HR 6164 ABC 2 (Class IV gas giant), where i was able to find Prasinum Bioluminescent Anemone and a gorgeous vista.
The sight of the two black holes started a debate in my head between the curious me and the more rational me:
C : " We must explore Sagittarius A* ! "
R : " Do you remember how did the last exploration towards Pueliae Nebula end? "
C : " Yeeeees, but surely you will... "
R : " I want to remind you about the emergency return that we had to do thanks to your magnificent idea of looking for Lava Spouts on a planet with 3G. "
C : " Ok, but... "
R : " ...Damn! We were left with 2% of hull health...we risked to lose all the data collected in three days of exploration of the Hawking's Gap region! "
C : " You may be right, but remember what Dante Alighieri wrote in The Divine Comedy: < Consider your origins: you were not made to live as brutes, but to follow virtue and knowledge. > "
R : " ...and after the ship arrived in sight of the mountain of Purgatory a terrible storm arose, which hit the ship of Ulysses and made it sink, causing the death of the hero and all his companions...a good example... "
C : " true...but they didn't have the repair limpet controller! "
R : " ... neither do we ...? "
After this internal exchange of opinions (a consequence of Space Madness, I suppose), I headed to the nearest station (Jones Horizons, in the KIRIPIBO system) to modify the Optional Internal Compartment of the Icarus, an Orca manufactured by Saud Kruger, in order to fit the repair limpet controller. I had to sell the 4G Planetary Vehicle Hangar, the 1E Advanced Docking Computer and the 1E Supercruise Assist in order to be able to fit a 2G Planetary Vehicle Hangar, 1D Repair Limpet controller and 5E Chargo Rack.
Yes, now I only have one SRV available for planetary exploration, but I have the cargo full of materials to repair and refuel it, so I don't think it's a big problem...
I was touched by the idea of selling the Icarus to buy a Krait Phantom. The Phantom has a greater Jump Range and, thanks to the size of its Optional Internal Compartments, it could fit the 4G Vehicle Hangar with the same loadout of the Icarus...but I excluded this option for three reasons:
- I honestly hate redundancy in things. I already have a Krait MkII, the Stardust, and I love it. It's a great multipurpose vessel...she has been my companion in many adventure, from exploration to bounty hunting in order to unlock the various engineers.
- The cockpit view. The view from a Krait Phantom is the same view of a Krait MkII (see point one) and i prefer to spent my exploration time in a luxury Orca, being able to see the horizon from the left to the right of the cockpit, thing that I couldn't do with the Krait's cockpit view.
- Laziness. The Icarus is already optimized and engineered. I shudder at the thought of having to collect all the materials to engineer another ship just to earn about four LY (66.04 LY vs 70.32 LY maximum jump range) and the capability to fit a 4G Vehicle Hangar.
So...here I'am...16,175.80 ly from Sagittarius A* and 55,561.82 ly from Beagle Point. These are the waypoints that I set for the outward journey:
