A shiny new Python - A cautionary tale

So there I was, sitting pretty on about 200 million hard earned credits, slowly earning my keep and a bit of rank, ferrying the criminal classes sightseeing around Sirius Atmospherics. It was over in the Ceos system that I realised I could buy a Python, and if I fitted it with 3 decent sized cargo racks, I could up my income, my reputation and lower my criminality risk at the same time.
So, off I trotted to the shipyard, and spotted a brand new Python on the forecourt. Oh, that new ship smell was intoxicating.
So, I pulled the trigger, and parted with the best part of 50 million credits.
Woopy, the 'Kerr Avon' was mine!
Ah, but its the optional extras that sting you I hear you yell!
Well I was prepared. I know how much they cost, and had the credits set aside to pimp my ride.
So I opted for the cargo racks, and a detailed surface scanner, and throw some large beam lasers on there while we are at it.
Perfect.
And the gods seemed to approve of my choice, as sitting there on the mission board was 2 missions for the Feds to carry 160 tons of legal goods to Sothis! This would net me over 3 million credits in just one run, plus ++++ in reputation!
So I loaded up the ship, and prepared to take her out on her inaugural flight, full of the hopes and dreams that we could achieve so much in the future.
UNTIL........
I pulled up the Nav menu and realised I only had a poxy 6ly jump range and the nearest A rate FSD was in bloody Sothis!!!
So I had to abandon the 2 missions, picking up fines and loss of reputation in the process. I had to dump my cargo, losing my investment, I then had the indignity of having to strip the 'Kerr Avon' down to just it's FSD and Thrusters, to get the jump range over 9ly, so I could go and get the 'A' rated FSD!
That short flight without shields or guns was nerve wracking to say the least.
The Moral: Don't go rushing off like a giddy schoolkid in the sweet-shop.
