Painite is the New Platinum

Seriously, what the hell is painite and why is it worth almost twice as much as the most precious metal in the civilized galaxy? Not that I care. This stuff is going to buy Daddy a new Class A FSD.
Not only can I sell painite at Tedin Station for $35K/ton, but there are also spot quotes (missions) with prices that spike much higher. A quick jump to a nearby system can net me $100 - $200K for a ton or two. Unfortunately the word is out, because I've been harassed by would-be pirates multiple times on these missions. Can't be too easy, yeah? It's harder to break interdictions in the four (I need to name my new ship or else that's gonna stick), so I've changed strategies - I bought upgraded armor and heavier shields. Now I have time to duck & dodge until I can make jump again, most of the time with shields still up. Later chumps!
But something happened today that's put me off mining. I pulled into Tedin with my holds bulging, made a quick check of the bulletin board... sure enough, there's a special request for 2 painite cannisters for $250K credits. Destination's really close by, too:
Chem Holdings. Nespoli Barracks.
Nope.
I dumped everything on the commodities market, and bought an Advanced Discovery Scanner / Detailed Surface Scanner combo. I think it's time to put a few hundred light years between me and this neighborhood.
