*** Procyon System, Greenland's Folly, StarDate 1.23.3302 ***In a sentence: Vacation - I'm doing it wrong.
I had every intention of returning to Sol immediately and continuing my leisure tour of the solar system with a visit to Mars. In particular I want to see the Mark Watney Memorial & Museum, as he is one of the historical figures I find most inspiring... but I am feeling restless and out of sorts. I want to do everything there is to do in Sol, but I also want to get back to work.
So in a compromise of sorts, I'm doing some short-term contract work for Sirius Corporation in Procyon, just one jump away. The pay's not as good as I could make elsewhere, but I'm already on friendly terms with them and as a bonus, I hope to obtain a Sirius permit sometime soon - just to have it. I'm also learning the ins & outs of station infiltration missions, which is new & interesting groundside work. Basically I am being sent to hack into the communications networks of a troublesome pirate cartel in a nearby system, which requires me to do a lot of "creative" SRV driving. A lot of those network terminals are in hard-to-reach places. Then you have to make a quick getaway if the weaponized security system gets triggered. That usually involves driving off a tall building, then bouncing across the fractured landscape at top speed while your shields are taking laser fire. Fun times!
I've done some more research into ******** ********, the wing that sent me a recruitment offer a couple of days ago. The more I dig, the more questions I have about them. For example, I always thought they were mercs, but I am unable to find any instance where they have been openly employed by any galactic power or local government - and yet they have a solid reputation for doing just that. Nor are they known to be affiliated with the Federation, Imperials or Alliance, although they are nearly a household name in all three regions of space. A large organization known to many - yet I can find no specifics on the net. Curiouser and curiouser.
