Hard Times

Life at the monastery is quiet, for the most part. The dojo still sees use though most of us are busy helping the sick. It's almost a full time job for us. The plan was apparently to get back to regular lessons once the contagion had subsided but it may not be so simple. Turns out it's hard to offer medical services when you're surrounded by greedy pirates. For the most part they leave us alone, since it seems they have more interesting things to deal with, and our little ascetic settlement doesn't have any shinies, but that doesn't stop them from intercepting medical relief and hoarding medical supplies.Sensei took me aside today to discuss the situation. We discussed a possible solution to the problem, one that involves me solving the problem the way I usually do. Admittedly, I have the skills and the tools to make a difference, but as I explained to him, that doesn't always mean it's a solution. Specific tasks, directed missions, yes, that's easy. The trouble starts when there are other people doing that stuff too, and there's always other people doing that stuff. Too many factors outside your control and the next thing you know, you've destabilized yet another system. I explained that the whole reason I'm here is to come to terms with the chaos I've left in my wake. If I start working here, it's going to introduce chaos. Things will get worse before they get better.
His response? "I'm counting on it."
