Manic miner

I've been mining my favourite spot for a week or so now, gathering funds. So not much progress on ranks or engineers, but making a few million credits each session if all goes well. Nearly lost the Orca last night with a 95% full cargo of opals, diamonds and other nice things. My systems all shut down as I was collecting last few diamonds, then when I got everything back up and running, I had a pirate lurking around. I did the right thing by not pursuing those last few diamonds, but was a little slow at getting away and he started to fire on me earlier than expected. I engaged super cruise, but charging was slow due to mass lock so I was a sitting duck for a bit. My shields depleted and hull had already dropped to less than 50%. I thought that would be game over, but he was some distance off by now, and although landing a few shots still, I was able to boost away far enough for him to have minimal impact. It was painful waiting for the drive to charge up, but it did in the end and I managed to get away. phew!I am going to spend the rest of the week mining, then will convert the Orca to a passenger ship to see if I can save a few souls from any damaged ships, earning me some much needed reputation. I like the Orca as a miner, cargo is just over the 100 tonnes mark and its relatively quick for those escapes when I need them. But mining in the Phantom I think is better, as the ship is slimmer, a little more manoeuvrable, can land on the medium launch pads and is a litter faster - while still being able to carry nearly 100 tonnes. I'll transfer the modules from the Phantom over to a new Krait 2 at some point and have that as my main fighter.
