"Battle not with monsters lest you become one."

We battled well into the night, fighting pirates, criminals, gangs. I forget how many, or what their names were. After a while I didn’t even look, just to see their `wanted` status was enough. A Fer-de-Lance, a Drop Ship, the occasional Anaconda. I would occasionally stop and recover, before stepping straight back into the fray as yet more pirates arrived to engage the innocent mining ships. Nothing seems to change over time, humanity is still plagued with those intent on making other people’s lives a misery.

I met many people during my last mining stint, some strange characters for sure, but most were good people, trying to make a living, a better life for themselves and others. Some were even mining to support good works, putting themselves out in dangerous places to do their bit for the cause. Sure, there are many greedy folk too, but they are relatively harmless, even willing to out of their way to help you sometimes. There is a sort of unwritten code of conduct between the mining community.

The constant battling takes its strain, both on the physical side of things and mentally. I cant keep this up for too long, I know that prolonged exposure to this presents a risk. It changes people.
