Bring in the big guns

My wing buddy and I continue to fight the good fight in the D1-79 system, making pit stops at the Penitent prison ship, before heading out for more Thargoid hunting. I understand now why she’s skint, there is not much money to be made from fighting the Thargoids. The scout kills are thick and fast, but at only 10k credits bounty a time and then the cost of repairs half hour later, you don’t make much. Credits earned for Cyclops kills are a little better at 2 million a time, but there are the additional repair costs once again and the occasional insurance costs of 7 million+ when things go badly wrong. This is rare now, but can happen – especially when they target your thrusters and disable them, leaving you as a sitting duck floating in space.Raven continues to knock up kills in her FAS, sometimes joining me, sometimes going it alone. I suggest to her that we take a break and do some mining; this is initially met with disgust. When I tell her that we will be making tens of millions an hour, she becomes more interested, more so when I mention that we will be using explosives and might have to fight off pirates.
My plan is to get hold of a new Cutter, then arm her to the teeth, returning back here for some serious Interceptor fighting. Maybe hire a crew member or two.
The biggest issue is not the cash though; it is the access to the Cutter. I have done very little for the Empire so far in my life, but to get that ship, I will have to earn the rank. Currently at `Outsider`, I need to climb the ranks to the 12th tier for access to the Cutter. Getting to `Duke` status could take some time…
I head out to Ngalinn for a few days on my own. I had heard that there is plenty of courier work going there that will help me advance my rank with the Empire. Not my favourite line of work, but needs must, plus I may also be able to pick up a few engineering components for some of the work. After this stint (not sure how long it will take), I plan on heading out to fill my boots with high grade tellurium, then head back to a material trader to get the materials needed for further engineering projects. Deep plating on re-enforcements, heat sinks engineering, that kind of thing. Then off to get the Cutter and fit her out, pick up some scoobie snacks from Deciat, before returning to the Pleiades area.
