Melting Pirates and a first foray into space truckin'

29 Apr 2021Captainfink
Having stocked up on G5 materials doing some Robigo Runs - highly recommend if you need some quick cash or materials - I made my way back over to the bubble to pick up my combat Krait MK II - "The Fangs Of Justice". I had already engineered her with increased jump range, shield, multi-cannons, thrusters and I had found myself over-heating following my MC upgrades. Time to engineer efficient beams I figured. That ought to make me a killing machine. So off I went. I only have access to The Dweller right now, so set about upgrading my 2 beam lasers to G3. This took a few hours work in The Munchkin which is my current best jump range Asp X. I had to sell to 5 black markets to get access, and once done I immediately set about my upgrades.

First run out after engineer my lasers and I get interdicted by a foolish pirate. I submitted, swung around on him, scanned him with the kill warrant and proceeded to melt him to slag in a matter of seconds. The lesson here? Engineering is most definitely worth it. I plan to take The Fangs of Justice for some conflict zone action and gain some federation ranking. I like the look of that Corvette!

While out and about I decided I'd finally fit out the Anaconda I bought some weeks back. I'm going to use it as a cargo hauler for now and either run cargo and data missions between Ceos and Sothis or out in Canopus which I believe is a little quicker if you're grinding towards rank. But I'm not a fan of grinding for anything. Anyway, fitting out the Anaconda cost me a fair bit of cash, but I've got a relatively decent hauler now carrying 400t, so I set out on my first run between Sothis/Ceos in the newly Christened "Phantom Queen".

I'm almost at the destination station, and I'm interdicted. As the Anaconda handles super cruise like a sofa, I'm caught. I should have submitted but I was too slow! Try to boost away and super cruise out, but I'm taking heavy fire and I didn't fit any defense other than not enough shields! Shields go down, FSD, thrusters all down and I'm spinning through space unable to do a thing, waiting for the end. Then, what are the odds, up in my comms panel I see the local authority has arrived to save the day! Just in time. Thank the universe I was close to the station.

I run a reboot/repair on the beaten Queen and proceed on to the station with my hull smoking and fizzling. I made it, and with a valuable few lessons. The Anaconda can't beat an interdiction. You need to submit by dropping throttle to 0. Boost, put all PIPS to shields and get ready to low/high wake as soon as your FSD cools down. Lesson 2, I need to tank her up a little more with engineering I think. Shields came down too fast for my liking. I've since done around twenty runs with the Queen and while I've been interdicted many times, sometimes twice in a row, I've been able to evade all using the submit method above.

Now I'm returning to engineering with these lessons, time for shield generators, hull and armour upgrades I think.
