The Void of Power

Logbook Entry - Commander Covarnis
Date: 24 November 3310

Sutekh, my Federal Corvette, looms in the docking bay of Ray Gateway, Diaguandri. Its armor gleams with cold, sterile light, star-reflecting destroyer of ships. Thoth, my Mandalay-class explorer, is in storage for now, her instruments resting. Sutekh demands attention—a warship thirsty for conflict, if only I decide to let it.

The move to Diaguandri was an inevitability. Ix, my former home, had grown too restrictive with the new dynamics of powerplay politics. Relocation to Diaguandri offers proximity to the resources and the convenience of high-tech outfitting. While technicians recalibrate Sutekh’s thermal vent beams, I’m questioning my own alignment.

The GalNet report on powerplay standings flickers on the terminal before me. My disillusionment with the Federation has grown beyond thresholds of patience. They raised me to the rank of Rear Admiral, only to sink me in the bureaucracy and corruption. I served with purpose once, working for what I believed was the betterment of humanity. Today the Federation feels hollow. And so, I consider new paths.

Her name is whispered like a hymn. Lavigny-Duval stands for law and order, her empire reverses chaos. Her strength is unyielding, her methods precise. To serve under the Empress is to find purpose in discipline, a return to ideals the Federation abandoned.

The CEO of Sirius Corporation offers a different kind of allegiance. His power is built not on ideology but innovation, the promise of transcendence through technology and intellect. Li Yong-Rui’s vision appeals to my logical side: a galaxy unified by advancements rather than the petty skirmishes.

And then there is the utopian. Antal’s vision is intoxicating—a dream of harmony through collective enlightenment. His followers seek to embrace a future of intellectual and spiritual evolution. It’s a cause that calls to the explorer in me.

My thoughts echo as the sounds of the station. Pilots negotiate cargo prices; mercenaries boast of their recent fights. Sutekh is almost ready. I’ve spent the day improving her systems, ensuring she’s fit for the battles that may come. This is a ship built to inflict fear, to dominate. Yet, I find myself hesitating.

The decision to align—or not—is no longer about survival. It’s about purpose. For now, I remain at Ray Gateway. My next move will define not just my path, but the legacy I leave behind. The stars have been my sanctuary. When this entry is complete, I’ll commit—to a power, to an ideal, or perhaps only to myself and to the stars. Whatever the choice, it will come with resolve.

The void does not care for indecision.
