Commander's Log: 27 August, 3302: Cobras and Drunk Missiles

A great many things happened after my last entry yesterday. After spending time musing over the benefits, I decided to trade in my Adder for a Cobra Mk IV. She flies a little slower, but feels much more capable of defending herself. Furthermore, the Cobra has a significantly higher carrying capacity, meaning I will be able to make more profit than I ever could've in the Adder.
A few weeks ago the Federation issued a community goal, asking pilots to help them build a few new capital ships. Personally, I do not align with the federation or the empire, but the opportunity to profit was too much to pass up, so I naively decided to partake in the event. Using the Trebuchet, my first few runs were successful, however by the third run I found myself interdicted by an imperial pilot who was part of a blockade in the system. Luckily for me the pilot chose to talk, rather than simply gunning me down. The Trebuchet was a nice ship, but she couldn't stand up very well in a fight. The gave me a warning, and asked me to leave the system. Not wanting to see my Asp incinerated, I complied.
This week another community goal has been posted, this time by the Empire. Having not learned my lesson, I decided to partake in the mission, thinking that it would "only be fair" that I supported both sides. Naturally this was a mistake. Once I entered the system, my bounty hunter's instincts kicked in. I could tell there was someone up to no good in the system. I attempted to approach the station with caution, avoiding the shipping lanes, until I saw my soon-to-be attacker. A particularly angry looking Fer-De-Lance was heading straight for me. I tried to escape by jumping to another system, but it was already too late. In moments the cur pulled me out of super-cruise, shredded my shields (through I haven't the slightest idea how), and blasted me with a tsunami of drunk missiles. Before I could even make a move, my beloved Trebuchet Mk I was blasted to bits.
I am still unsure whether the man was simply a bored pirate looking to sate his bloodlust, or a member of the Federation's cursed "shoot first, ask questions later" policy I had heard so much about. Either way, It serves as a reminder as to why many find us pilots untrustworthy. Even our own Pilot's Federation is unable to keep these pirates under control, and it makes the rest of us look bad. As for the pirate, who's name I will reluctantly withhold from this log, I hope they soon meet the justice that they deserve.
