Beating the Interdictions

17 Sep 2021Aylin Ouyang
Today, I finally got interdicted by pirates again.

This time though, I was quite a bit better prepared. One, the bitch decided to taunt me before she was anywhere near me. Two, it was going to happen sooner or later, so I have been practicing in the simulations. I was going to be far more ready for this.

It didn't stop the sense of unease as the pirate ship closed the distance. But once the interdiction warning came up, I felt far more in control this time. COVAS sounded a warning, I felt the ship jolt and heave, and then the escape vector heading appeared on the HUD as I grasped the controls and directed the ship in the indicated direction.

Once again it was like a deadly dance, but this time I knew the steps. Twisting and turning, the fear came back as the progress indicators pitting our ships against each other rose and fell. This pirate started this with a taunt for good reason; despite me being better prepared I was taking more work and more time in breaking the interdiction compared to that last panic-stricken escape.

It felt like forever, and my arms were starting to cramp, but this witch wouldn't let go. I yanked the stick some more, and guided the ship through what felt liked a double loop and corkscrew combo, before the escape vector indicator suddenly veered to a sharp left. I rolled the ship and pulled hard, and I swear the ship groaned a little as it barely kept up with the crossed-circle that it was chasing. It was like a dance of its own, shimmering and floating just above the target reticule as I desperately tried to align them together.

The interdiction conflict indicators flashed and blink, then suddenly mine increased as the pirate's feel. Had she finally given up? Or did I lose her? No matter, because in the next second the words INTERDICTION EVASION SUCCESSFUL flashed on the HUD.

I heaved a sigh of relief and just leaned back in the seat. Two for two now. I can do this.
