Falling into Routine

19 Sep 2021Aylin Ouyang
I didn't expect this to happen so quickly, but I think... I think I'm falling into a routine.

The past several days it has been this: Wake up, find something to eat, look at trade networks and job listings for anything profitable, snag them, wait for goods to load (if any), take off, head to profit spot, turn in job or wait for goods to load or unload, head to next profit spot, repeat.

It's not exactly dull, at least not yet, and being a freelancer means I don't have to break my back trying to fix twenty ships in three hours while getting paid a pittance. At least the money's very good; too good in fact. I've probably made what family makes a year in less than a month. I'm starting to get bigger ideas than just sending them money. I'm starting to think having the family retire to a nice Earth-like world is a possibility. So far I've been sending bits of money back home, not too much, because I don't want attention to be drawn to them, plus I'm still saving up for a new ship. Money making money you know?

Speaking of Earth, I went past pretty near Sol a couple of days ago. It's the system where we humans all came from, but I didn't feel that much of an affinity to it. Though I thought it'd nice to take a detour to it and see what it's like in-person, it's unfortunately permit-locked. Damn those uppity Feds.

For much of yesterday and today, I've been in Imperial space. Going from Fed space to Imperial space is a bit of a whiplash. I still can't get used to seeing Imperials and their outlandish yet immaculate outfits. They're so showy and grand. Even the station controllers sound incredibly snobby. Also strange to see the messages printed on their station entrances: HAIL THE EMPERIOR and BASK IN HER GLORY. It just feels too much adulation for me.

What's not too much is the profit. Somehow the station here in Fire Fade has some issues here with their infrastructure, and they're paying top dollar via their valuable minerals. Trading them with neighbouring systems for needed supplies and material has been great for the credits. I'm hoping there's more tomorrow.

Update on new ship shopping: Everything is so expensive. Ships aren't cheap. Looking to get a Hauler though. I've had experience flying those back home as intra-system shuttle and transport craft that it'd be nice to have one again. I've seen a few used ones that are just within reach, though they need some tune up and repairs, so I'm going to save up a bit more as buffer for both parts and ship insurance.
