CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 49
27 Sep 2020Pausanias
Hi Cmdrs,OH MY GOD - You know I said about going near the edge last night, well I did but quite by accident.
I'd seen a trace on my SRV scanner that I thought I would investigate which was slightly down the incline, as I was driving towards it I hit a rock, not a very big one, but on a 0.6 gravity planet and on the side of a hill, it was enough to send me spinning through the air and down the precipice! I eventually started hitting the cliff side and started taking damage getting down to 47% hull and still tumbling.
I decided to let the SRV go, I could get another at the Carrier, but then I changed my mind and decided to save it, I managed to effect a SRV Repair from the right hand menu whilst still spinning through the air, which worked, then by some miracle I stopped spinning and ended up sliding down the hill with my handbrake on until I came to a standstill, still intact, phew!
I was way down the valley by now in the dark, my Cutter had left, I could see its vapour trail, this chasm was 4k deep remember. I started to climb up the side but it was too steep for the SRV. Next I thought 'try bringing the Cutter down here', somehow this worked and after thinking about it for ages it landed only 500 metres away, I got back aboard and took off pronto.
No casualties.
Before all this happened I took this image facing the systems Sun, if you look you can see the sunshine making the ice particles on the moons surface sparkle. The planet looks amazing too with its halo of sunshine. You can also see the steepness of the chasm to the right and the whole photo is tilted due to me being on the incline.
Having left that planet I carried on to The Carl Sagan and after a few jumps found a system with this planet in which was 240,000 light seconds out. Quite by accident I caught the old Nebula in the shot and you can also see the Galactic Plane very well.
A few more jumps and I came across this Gas Giant 0.87 light seconds from its sun. It had striking lines around it was lit by its Sun in a very stunning way. The second Sun in the system also photo-bombed this image.
I’ve carried on but still need about 14 jumps to do before reaching the Carrier again, I’ve logged off in mid space tonight but near the systems Sun to keep nice and warm in the ship.
Total Carrier jump distance since 10th August: 15,500 ltyrs - (Personal note: 30 jumps on 25 Sept)
Total Ship jump so far: 34,674 ltyrs
Total planets Level 3 scanned: 11,428
Total exploration data: 316,500,000 credits
Total systems with my name on: 2559
The Cutter is now 12,900 ltyrs away from Sol - This is the same as last night again as I am still arcing around Sol now
TRA X-1 is a bit closer from tonight’s exploration but I’ve come across so much I haven’t gone far!
