CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 62

10 Oct 2020Pausanias
Hi Cmdrs,

I feel like I’ve cheated tonight but I suppose I haven’t in reality. I’ve used my Asp Explorer to jump between Carrier jumps and instead of 20 plus jumps I’ve done it in NINE, twice! It has a 64 ltyr jump range. I’ve still managed to see a few things and accumulate some exploration data though.

Here you can see the Asp transiting this ice ringed planet . . .

This ringed planet turned out to have THREE Tritium hotspots around it but I’m still not mining yet. The Carl Sagan is now down to having less than 500 tons of Tritium in reserve so I will need to find some more soon but my plan is to operate on a minimum of 300 tons. Each Carrier jump uses about 130 tons so 300 will mean I have two jumps in reserve but leave plenty of space if a decide to empty the 266 tons the Cutter can mine. This will allow me to swop ships more often. Thinking about it may be 500 would be a good minimum!

This will mean that I could do with taking the Cutter out next but, just for the hell of it, I’m going to use my T9, it’s jumps range is only about 30 ltyrs so I’ll be back to many multiple jumps again. Next time I get to the Carrier I’ll swop to the Cutter and mine to replenish what I’ve used from the Carriers reserves.

I reached the Carrier on the first set of jumps and handed in just 500,000 exploration credits and decided to carry on using the Asp to jump again.

On the very last jump before reaching the Carrier for the second time I found a planet worth scanning with a moon that looked interesting so I scanned the planet and went to the moon. This image shows the approach, that is the planet in the background and the moon in the foreground despite the colours suggesting the opposite . . .

There were around 25 Geological Sites on the moon, I chose number 2 as it was closest and found a field of gas holes. I took this image because it reminded me of my spotty teenage years!

I buggy’d around for a while finding a few materials I could pick up before returning to the Asp and finishing the journey to The Carl Sagan where I handed in a further 7,000,000 credits for data.

Although I feel like I cheated in the end it worked out quite well again.

Total Carrier jump distance since 10th August: 20,000 ltyrs - (Personal note: 38 jumps on 9 Oct)
Total Ship jump so far: 38,400
Total planets Level 3 scanned: 14,710
Total exploration data: 370,500,000 credits
Total systems with my name on: 2747
The Cutter is now 13,553 ltyrs away from Sol!
Distance to Beagle Point: 55,000 ltyrs - this is 1000 more than last night because of the direction we’re going

TRA X-1, approximately 1,300 to go . . .
