"Training Wheels Off"

14 May 2018CelticSpartan01
It's been a few days since I passed my pilots test and was awarded my sidewinder.
I still can't believe that they just "give" any of us a ship, but, it is rather cheap in the potential return profits and advantages "they" can get in return for getting us started on our careers..

For those first 4 days, I jumped right in and just jumped like a mad man from one system to another, taking almost any mission I could.
Though the cargo hold of a sidewinder is small, it was big enough for my needs.

After 4 days with only a few hours of sleep a day, I have managed to work my way up to owning my very own Asp Explorer, a fine ship with a lot of potential. I've also managed to achieve Midshipman rank with the Federation and am a Merchant in trade, now, what these ranks can do for me, i'm still not sure, but it must be something.
To be honest, all I care about is the money, freedom and adventure, however.. one thing I didn't expect, was the desperate loneliness that slowly creeps into ones bones.. ones very soul..
That's why i'm writing this now and putting it out on the net, something to keep my mind busy.
Sure, I can stretch my legs in stations, but other than the.. "women of questionable business practice" and merchants trying to sell you something, no one is very interested in socializing.

But.. when you're in the black for long periods of time with nothing but your ship and self to talk to, even the ebb and flow of mumbled conversation in a bar, hell, even the voice of a charming sounding young lady, telling you "You're clear for docking Commander, welcome." can be enough to stave off insanity for a bit longer.

I've been hearing rumors.. about aliens, i've not investigated too deeply into the rumors for fear I wouldn't have the nerve to continue heading out into the black day after day.. or is it night after night, eh, who knows.
Besides, i've already got enough problems with pirates and corporate hit men (Is there a #()$* difference?) so far, my flying skill has proven to be just enough to escape their interdiction's, so far.. but what if I run into an elite pirate? Well, i'll worry about that when and if it happens.

Okay.. Guess i've procrastinated enough, time to find a cargo mission or.. if I can figure out how to use these marketing tools, some cargo to trade, though I have noticed as of late that ferrying people back and forth pays even better, some of them even want to have a conversation or two, sure, some are picky and bossy, but hey, they're paying and i'll keep doing these missions til I get where I wanna be.. but.. where is that? Hell if I know, guess i'll know when I get there.

Welp, guess it's time to get off my ass and back in the cockpit.
Commander Bradley signing off.
