I went up against the Feds for the first time in a combat zone. That was...awkward, to say the least. I don't think they were expecting a Corvette to drop in and start firing on them. They didn't appreciate it, let me tell you. There was a Farragut in the CZ, and that thing singled me out hard.If you've never been the sole focus of a Farragut and all of it's fighter escorts, let me tell you. It's a little terrifying. I mean, I've modified almost every single module on my corvette, to the point of absurdity, but the concentrated fire almost brought my shields down in less than a minute.
Of course, that's as long as it took for me to disable the Farragut's power plant. That seems like an oversight to me, I've got to say. The reactor core isn't nearly as well protected as it should be, and it's easy to get inside of most of the turrets' firing arcs.
The Limper got absolutely wrecked, though. I never lost shields, but popping shield cell after shield cell cooked my internals. The thrusters are heavily damaged, and #2 Pulse Laser needs to be completely rebuilt. I think one of the heat vanes got slagged pretty early into the fight, then the continued weapons fire and heat just ruined it. So I parked her, and shelled out for a full repair, refuel, and refit.
I got a message while I was fighting in the CZ, from a woman named Lori Jameson, inviting me to come meet her. Felicity Farseer mentioned her to me once or twice. Apparently she's got a lot of good modifications for explorers. One small snag, though. She wants 25 barrels of Kogga Ale.
*sigh*
Well, the Limper is going to be laid up in dry dock for a while after what I put her through today. The Longstrider will be here in a few minutes, and I'm going to head out on a Kongga, then back to Founders. I haven't been back to the core worlds for a while, so this might be nice.
