Housekeeping...and Why Do So Few Like Colonia?

28 May 2019Scubadog
Time to add a few random thoughts.  When you spend a lot of time in the black and you haven't hired (or chosen to bring) extra crew along, you have a lot of head-time.  You know what I mean...wallowing in the echo chamber of your thoughts.  So, things just pop into your brain and you end up chewing on them a bit.

I'm in the middle of grinding materials for some additional engineering on my new Clipper, and in the process I have moved a few chess pieces.  You see, I have been maintaining some "placeholder" ships in the core systems just cuz.  I have a stock Eagle parked at Citi Gateway in Inara.  I have an AX-configured Vulture in Janes Horizons in Arexe (the home of The Silverbacks).  And, I had a stock Hauler in Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra.  But when I took the Sidewinder Express back the core systems I yanked the Hauler from Jameson so I'd have a better ship to start work with.  Once I acquired the Courier to expedite my work, I parked the Hauler at Edwards Port in Yokusu.  Of course, once I ranked up enough to get the Clipper, I parked the Courier at Hahn Orbital in the Bandizel system.  I don't like to leave things "untidy".  That means, I absolutely have to get everything to where it needs to be before I trek back to Colonia.  It will drive me nuts being home and realizing I've left a mess.

Subject change. I love Colonia. Sure, there are things missing. You don't have all the modules available or even all the ships available. The engineers are getting more skilled, but they're not fully capable yet, and you still need to get access to them through other engineers in the core systems. Even so, you really do have everything you need, and it's a LOT closer to you. But why do I see so many just treat Colonia like a truck stop? Unless you're really anxious to go bughunting (or bug food), what's the draw to go back to the bubble? One can effectively plan to make Colonia your new home by engineering modules at different classes and then storing them for shipping to your shiny new residence in Colonia. Same with any ships you can't get. I did some Void Opal and Low-Temp Diamond mining back in Colonia and now I plan to stockpile various modules that I can't get yet in Colonia while I'm here in the bubble for a memorial celebration. I'll have plenty for any future ships I may get. Let's face it, I'm only going to have so many vessels, since their features overlap a fair amount. If new ones come out, I generally will weigh them against my existing ships and I'll store all the upgraded modules of an old ship to be installed in a new one. Planning well, I won't really need anything out in Colonia.

So, to all you folks who just cruise through our stretch of space...consider planting some roots. You're welcome!
