Heart and Soul Nebulae, Shore Leave
11 Dec 2024Travers
Well that's another leg of the trip done, we've arrived at the Heart and Soul nebulae, and boy am I looking forward to this. You see there's a mining consortium works out of here. They've two huge asteroid stations and probably forty or so planetary mines and agricultural settlements. Because I'm hoping to build mining bases for tritium out in Tenebrae I've got some meetings planned with the administrators here. They're going to tell me about the challenges they've faced building mines this far out, and how they've overcome them. That's gonna be really useful.Either way I'm gonna be here for a while. Hig Hurtenflurst, the commander who came out on this epic trip with me is on his way, still in the Formidine Rift but on his way. He's not been here before. I think he's looking forward to a little distracting pew pew with some pirates. I'm pretty sure the locals will appreciate that. As we'll be here a while though I've decided to give the crew of my carrier, Olympus, a couple of weeks shore leave, god knows this crew have poured their hearts and souls into this trip, so here just seems appropriate. I conservatively estimate we've travelled at least 100,000ly, possibly 125,000. That's gotta take its toll on anybody, even if they do say they're used to extended missions in the black.
There's a couple of crew members who really wanted to get back to the bubble to spend Christmas with their families, so we booked them passage on a freighter heading that way. We'll catch up with them in a few weeks when we get back. God knows they've earned the time off. There's plenty for the rest to do here and it's an amazingly beautiful place. You can see these nebulae from thousands of light years away. All my way through the Formidine Rift I could feel them calling to me. These deep red nebulae are hauntingly beautiful, I'm gonna enjoy staying here for a while, and really looking forward to what I'm gonna learn.
For now though I think a good meal is in order, I'm told they have some amazing restaurants here, and a few drinks with the locals to find out what's good to see and experience. There's no official office, I don't think they get a lot of tourists through here as there's no dedicated tourist station. Pity that, they always have really good pools to swim in, but what the hell. If you ever get a chance to visit here then you definitely won't regret it.
The next leg of the trip takes us back to the bubble, but we've got two short stops to make along the route at crystal shard and brain tree planets. There's good material gathering to be made there so it's always a great place to stock up, flak cannons at the ready!
