Hey all, sorry it's been a while again, things have generally been interesting, but not much to tell. I decided to upgrade my combat from pirates to aliens.
I went to Guardian space, unlocked a few weapons (and Guardian hull reinforcements), and then I moved over to the Plieades Sector, and started with shooting scouts.
This went well for a couple of weeks, and moved my combat rank up to about 15% through Master, but I wanted more. I wanted an interceptor.
I tried several times on my own to no avail. I added a ship launched fighter, and had a friend co-pilot for me, but no good. Finally, a different friend brought his Krait mk2 over and together we finally took one down. It was after we had finally finished the fight that I noticed that the heart it leaves behind is cargo... and I had no storage racks... so I could not pick it up. This same friend, sadly, ran through the caustic cloud left from the thargoid death, and was subsequently killed.
But, I wasn't done yet. I went back out and managed to kill one by myself (with a mild amount of strategy/cheating, depending on pragmatic you are).
I found one sitting in a pretty heavy debris field, and my first thought was that this would make combat harder, but as I sat there scanning him (and being scanned myself), he deployed his thargon swarm... and they kept running into the debris and dying. The debris field ate his thargons. From there it was fairly easy to take him out, grab a heart and a 2,000,000 credit bounty. A pittance compared to void opal mining, but more than enough to cover repairs. Now I sit in dock with a thargoid heart sitting in my cargo, and I worry about what to do with it... can I sell it? will it eat a hole in my hull? I hear there is a bobble for sale, but I don't have the meta-alloy, so I'll have to figure out how to get some of that... sigh.
