It's been roughly 24 hours since I completed the advanced simulations. Since completing those, I've done a little bit of travel, but all within the confines of the Pilot's Federation District. I was sent to Mawson Dock in the Dromi system to receive my on-loan Sidewinder Mk I from the Pilot's Federation.
To begin my career, I took on some small haulage jobs, as well as filling out the rest of my hold with cheap cargo that I could turn a profit with.
After a few hours, I decided to purchase a brand new Sidewinder, and naming her Snakebite, thus putting the ship under my complete, unadulterated ownership. I have also upgraded her with lightweight modules and an increase in cargo capacity, making the ship able to jump further, and enabling me to turn over a bigger profit per trip by grace of cargo quantity. All things considered, 12t of cargo in a Sidewinder is pretty good going.
I will be looking to expand the Snakebite's capabilities over the coming days. The first thing that comes to mind is to purchase an SRV hangar. Expensive, heavy, but it would unlock a lot of salvaging opportunities. I also hope to make a career out of salvage and mining, so it's certainly a logical investment. I may also consider my first limpet controller, mining laser and refinery.
Of course, I do hope to become a better combat pilot in due course, however, my reading of the Space Trader's Flight Training Manual suggests it would be wise to build up some financial backup before looking to get into serious combat.
Certainly, I would like to acquire some superior modules suited for fighting before I hunt my first mark. After all, right now my Sidewinder is just a flying cargo rack!
All in all I feel enrolling with the Pilot's Federation was a good move. I will finally be able to explore the stars, and live my dream of being my own boss.
