Okay. I’m not even gonna comment on the Arx stuff, I just need to rant about how uninformative this game can be at times and how many stupid decisions have been made in its design.
So what do I mean by uninformative? Universal Cartographics for example. That interface tells you so unbelievably little about what you’re selling, what you’ve discovered, and why things are priced the way they are.
Another thing is the wing system. You know how if you go into your info panel, and a friend is online, it tells you what system they’re in, and how many light years away that system is for you?
So why is it, that when you get into a wing with that person, it STOPS TELLING YOU how far away they are, and what system they’re in, instead putting a small icon on top of your hud that cuts off the name of the system if it’s too long (making it borderline useless when you’re out in the middle of nowhere when system names just become random jumbles of characters) and it no longer tells you the distance at all. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?! It drives me insane because while those are the only ones that come up off the top of my head, the game is full of things like that.
And frankly, the community can be just as vague sometimes. This one time a little bit ago, I wanted to go check out Mount Nerverest, the tallest known mountain in the galaxy. And on the Elite Dangerous Wiki, it has it listed on a table of known mountains and mountain ranges, and each one has its coordinates on the planet listed...
EXCEPT for Nerverest, which instead simply says “not needed, easily visible from space”.
Well here’s the issue with that. When I got to the planet, the mountain was on the dark side of it, so it was pitch black and I couldn’t see a single thing. There were a lot of tall mountains there but because they were too far away from one another to properly compare, I actually am STILL not even sure I was at the right mountain.
And disregarding that, you should just put the coordinates there anyways for the sake of being thorough, it’s the wiki, that’s what you do. Do you think the Wikipedia page on Humans needs to include a basic description of what humans look like? As if anyone reading wouldn’t already know? Of course it doesn’t, but it does anyways for the sake of being complete and the fact that so many things revolving around this game are like those examples just drives me up the wall.
Alright. I’m done. Got it out of my system. Have a nice evening.
