CMDR Vel Eshti and I linked up at the Zurara. For those of you reading/listening to this that haven't happened upon any derelict ships let me tell you it's unsettling. The Zurara has been at station keeping for 35 years crewless and functionally adrift. What befell her is still a mystery and whomever was behind this tragedy clearly views human life as cheap and expendable. Not surprising when we consider the megacorporations that dominate the landscape these days, but jacked up nonetheless. The follow-on log entries are the thing that really concretes the creep factor. Again, why did I come here before I disappear for nearly a year? Sometimes I question my choices.
Looks like Vel is headed back to the bubble. The 'Vette has a degraded power plant and it appears that there's a data link scanner issue. Weird. It's like saying my big toe doesn't work. We considered 250km taping the SRV to the nose for box checking purposes, but nixed that idea because...well it was stupid. So Vel is high tailing it back to Heart for repairs. I should probably do the same because my power plant took a hit and these civilian military variants don't have redundancies one gets used to in the fleet. Seriously though, why would a interstellar platform not have redundant power sources? Even a little one with enough oomph to power the AFMU to repair the main reactor? I'm just thinking out loud. I get it. Most folks stay within safe jump distance of a repair yard. We, the elite, are the nut jobs that insist on pushing these platforms to their ultimate limits.. Or you know...whatever....
Here's some pics for the ole scrapbook:
On short final to Zurara. Just outside optimal scan distance.
Scaramoosh, scaramoosh! Can you do the fandango?
What are friends for? Nothing to see here. The Vette is not making contact with hull of the magaship. That's our story. For the record: clearly I'm not the only one....
Course is plotted to WP3. 112 jumps estimated. We shall see what we shall see. I've got more than a week to get there - should be super doable.
I'm going to get some coffee.
Fly safe, in your own ship. See you in the black Commanders.
