Part of me still feels like they want Hudson in charge for something going awry on the Thargoid front once the torpedoes start flying.

And on the subject of torpedoes, it feels like some story writer at Frontier has decided to embrace the 'fighter planes vs big warships' idea from WW2. I don't think there are going to be any stuck rudders involved in this one, however.

SakashiroHmm, ED no longer updated for old consoles, CP no longer updated for old consoles ... could it be that old consoles are simply too old to run the new stuff?

Not really. Just wanting to eliminate running costs by focusing on PC only. My 10 year old laptop can run ED just fine, and the XB1 is light years ahead in hardware capability.

I don't believe there's a 10 year old laptop running Odyssey just fine.

I suppose "just fine" is a relative term depending on what one considers to be acceptable performance.

And what laptop? But talking about this time interval even if it was top notch back than, it's underperforms today.

Just because you all have crappy laptops, or don't know how to GET good performance out of them, it doesn't mean everyone else does.

If you don’t play the Odyssey content(or the parts of it that don’t really benefit from the framerate that much), sure, a 10 year old laptop doesn’t have much of an issue running Elite.

Of course, the Odyssey content is also poorly optimized compared to the rest of the game(with a few rare exceptions), so maybe you could say ‘Then again’.

And maybe you should provide those specifications of your machine instead of just throwing out these blanket claims. I could run ED at a steady 60 FPS with 1080p on a GTX 1060, plus an intel CPU of around that time, but that came with FSR enabled(less so without, especially in the more demanding environments such as a big orbital port), which also causes a kind of noticeable hit to the visuals.

And there is no arguing the XB1 - base model - is definitely just not going to be up to par for that much longer. Certainly not for anything other than 30FPS 1080p gameplay, and I don’t think that’s a standard any longer.

Maybe just some absolutely outdated and crude aircraft spaceships that despite any 'on paper' comparisons still manage to kick some great arse. :p

As long as none of the Titans had names given to them by the Thargoids that start with B,
and end with a k, I’m sure they’ll suffer less problems.

(Is it yet obvious which historical incident I am referring to?)

The Bismarck. And Swordfish torpedo bombers. Lol. :p

p.s. "We crippled your largest battleship with a friggin' biplane!"

Funny thought - the new Meowers could probably ride a torpedo to an enemy ship like a total maniac.

Whether it would be a good idea to do so or had any chance of working, well, that’s a different matter.

(It’s almost a shame Titans are not actually battleships and act more like survey stations with minimal or weak defensive weaponry to discourage random idiots attacking them more than a dedicated/purpose-built military-standard ship.)
23 Feb 2024, 10:23pm
I think that Titans are more like... Carriers. They have some defences yet not as much as a dedicated battleship, which (in Thargoid variant) we don't have in game, enough to discourage idiots as you said.

Riding a torpedo might sound funny but yeah, that isn't a good idea, obviously. Throwing them by hand might be an option, though she has a ship that does it better. :p

Aircraft carrier analogy was the other thing that came to my mind. If a lot bigger and practically indestructible in this case, for anything that humans could feasibly throw at it.

Other than a really dirty weapon that destroys the molecular structure of the Titan’s heat venting system and will try to cook its insides, apparently.

(And I don’t think Meowers is a torpedo user, to be honest.)
23 Feb 2024, 10:47pm
Yep, I guess being invulnerable to conventional weaponry is what keeps both players and Frontier from going total parallel-mode, comparing them to human-made battleships, the whole amazingly wide variety of two present in game lol.

And, Meowers likes everything that makes the m-fer dead by shooting them right in the face. And the more dead the m-fer gets after it, the more Meowers likes the thing. If it's made of steel, feels heavy, has a muzzle flash, a recoil and a sound that says 'you belong to the realm of dead now' in form of detonating projectile propellant, then Meowers likes it even more. :p

Torpedoes don't have some of these features but oh the amazing kaboom they make. So, torpedoes are fine too.

It’s a shame Elite’s torpedoes - comparatively - move like they’re molasses. Even unengineered T9/10 with A rated thrusters almost has the same speed when boosting. I’ve never used them for that reason.

Or at the very least whichever balancing genius at Frontier made them like that and very easy to get shot down by point defense or diverted by an ECM(if for whatever reason your target has one) makes them look horrible. Then again, I don’t know what current/modern day sub warfare with torpedoes used against each other would look like… but I still doubt it’s just going to be a simple case of outrunning them(really silly), or fitting simple automated defense turrets(or a module which magically manages to make the projectile permanently lose track of the target with a single pulse, until it blows itself up).

Oh look, I found another thing about Elite’s game design to point and poke at to make fun of(or rant about).

Titans are portals to thargoids home world(s) that's why there is not shortage of goids of any kind in the system around them.
