Elite: Game talk

Yeah, I was experiencing transition times of up to a minute when jumping between systems the other day.
13 Nov 2024, 7:23pm
The jump times are pretty bad it's true but (with a few mauve adders thrown in there) it usually completes the jump. But I get the feeling that the stellar cartographics would just continue to turn and turn forever.

In game lag - where the station jumps like some 1800's flickbook animation - ships which jutter back and forth blocking the letterbox... and the list goes on. Jump times, materials being taken but upgrades to suit (night vision) not being applied. Exchanging MATS with bartender, materials are taken, but swap not returned. Missions which cannot be completed (and you get the penalties) e.g. megaships which travel +100,000m/s

It isn't the local machine - or the network connection - it is the game and the Frontier servers.

This update is garbage.

Hey FDev: Instead of adding any more content - how about you spend the time fixing most the problems and issues they players are reporting - or get someone in to fix your spaghetti code.

FDev rule #1: Fix one bug, create five new ones.

Lately my Carrier spool up was down to 15 mn and as I stated earlier, the game runs smooth, no problem, Optimum with an average of 89.8 FPS and 12 ms (last CZ sortie data a couple of hours ago), so I don't know where your problems comes from, perhaps a change of DNS would help?...
13 Nov 2024, 9:30pm
As stated - everything working perfectly here. Every other app/game works flawlessly. Net traffic might occassionally account for the odd one or two long jumps - but there are a lot of people complaining about the issues mentioned. Be glad that you are unaffected as so many of the rest of us appear to be

RawnuHardened Surface Fragments: do you get them (1) only from live Titans in meltdown or (2) are they also available in Titan graveyards? If there are other place to get them, I'd also be curious.

AFAICT only live Titans, but they do not have to be in meltdown (although it is easier when they are).

Kasumi Goto[...] I have a vague memory of the eggheads at canon roughly calculating that the highest speed which the Titans achieved in their travel mode being 5,625c, I'm not exactly convinced that any of our ships would have much of a chance of catching one even with SCO.

That was the highest speed. Sometimes they travelled slow enough they could be overtaken without SCO (which of course did not exist back then).

Trying to drop at them, however, was virtually impossible even if they moved relatively slowly (like 640c), because the game apparently refused to sync your frame of reference with them, so the ‘target proximity slowdown’ effect that has always been part of SC would get in the way; the ship would always either slow down until it matched the Maelstrom’s speed, or overshoot.

Well, yes. I chose to omit this information then because I don't think a Titan "escaping" (if the Thargoids even considered it as such) might not necessarily be stopping to slow down near stars for... one reason or another.

But I think it's an academic consideration anyway, because I'm not convinced there will be more "Stargoids" (aka Titans moving through deep space), and even if there were I have my doubts they could be interdicted. Not while human ships caught in a Thargoid interdiction are as hapless as a fish out of water.

I can confirm, just out of a CZ, ran smooth.

Then again, I service (Directory + Files) and deep scan my system every day, also no risk of Microsoft messing with it, I use Windows Update Blocker v1.8, it will update only when I chose to.

I don't know how many servers ED uses, but sometimes DNS can really play a role and it is worth checking on Microsoft Updates, there is a known issue with Windows 11 and AMD CPUs, I also had an alert message from AMD saying Microsoft are replacing their native drivers with their own during updates.

Those are a few things I am always checking on to make sure my system runs optimum.

>>>

I had to move my Carrier to a system with a valid CZ (14/11-10.15) Spool up time was just above 15 mn.

Add bizarre artifacts (see Odyssey) to this list and of course, Type-8 "shaking" and its hull panel shadows flickering.

Valorian AxtenI'm just chiming in to brag about my first Traveller rank! I'm en route to Colonia, and halfway there. Without any means of repair I'm going the slow FSD route, 40LY at a time, great surveying opps though!

By the way, is there any actual reliable way to route this far and have carriers in between with repair facilities?

Flap on, smol turtle. Congrats on your rank

After extensive (!) testing and mulling over, this here is now my final AX Mandalay build: https://edsy.org/s/vEb7mcY

I've decided to stick with the charge enhanced super conduit distro, becase WEP focused didn't make such a big difference in the end but sacrificed recharge speed of SYS and ENG too much (and I'm a lazy ass with pip management). In order to deal better with heat, I went for clean drive tuning which really helped a lot without sacrificing agility, just a bit of top speed.

I also took a step back from the Shardalay approach and put in a good old medium thermal vent beam laser, which gets rid of excess heat rather quick. All in all, this is my bird! And one guy joked today "Did you see the Mandalay going up against the Hydra?!"

I still can't submit cartographic data. I'm sitting here watching it turn over and over and if I can't sell it it'll sit there until I lose a ship in combat or something and it'll all be gone.
My Internet connection is top notch here so it isn't that.
Is anyone else having this issue?

I like it! Looks like a fun build. It looks like there are some ways my -- and other common -- AX Chieftain(s) outperforms your AX MD, but I know you're actually testing it, so how do YOU think they compare? Any remarks about how you had to do this or that differently (or the same) between AX builds and scenarios?

504 boost, no AFMU and undoubtfully eats heatsink charges like batteries in little Johnny story. Hope Goids will spare more Basilisks to reduce the number of blue-printers in game...
