Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

He was greeted by a dim lighting and some low music playing in the background. In front of him a man stood attached to was his floor with mag boots. Ender wasn't entirely sure what the man said at first, but he was pretty sure that he got surprised with what he saw, as he seemed to pause and then start back over. The man spoke with a clear Imperial accent, and had his feet firmly planted on the ground. While there were situations where having your feet attached to the "floor" was beneficial, the man gave a vibe of someone who didn't prefer a zero-gee environment. He gave a quick nod to the greeting; the man hadn't even stopped talking yet, and continued to observe his host. As Creamy turned and started to "walk" down along the corridor in that peculiar way that mag-boots necessitates, it became even more obvious that he wasn't fully comfortable in this environment. While Creamy walked, Ender have the rail a little tug and started to gracefully glide down after his host with no effort. As he could not be certain about how many people might be on the ship, he was drifting in a relaxed but ready position, with his arms bent and close to his chest, ready to grab any object to change trajectory, or his blade to defend himself.

He had initially, mostly by chance, been in the same orientation as Creamy. To further test his hypothesis, he had given himself a small rotation. By the time Creamy looked back with a grin, he was upside down, from his hosts perspective, and had just done a small correction by moving his arms and lightly touch one of the walls to stop turning. From his perspective, he was slowly sinking head first down into a rectangular hole, with creamy walking on the wall on the side his back was facing. As creamy stopped and looked left and right, Ender reached for the rails located in the junction, grabbed hold of one on the side of his stomach and pulled in on it. At the same time, he curled himself into a ball, increasing his rotation speed, and then extended his body again, his stomach now facing towards Creamy, effectively looking "down" on him from above. He held this position, slowly swaying as Creamy find his way around the ship, and then launched himself into a slow glide after his host, this time with his feet first and his back towards the wall on Creamys right side. Entering the lounge, he extended one of his feet for a rail in the middle of the room and started to swing around, his toes pushed below the rail pulling him in towards the surface. He came to rest crouching down, holding onto the rail with one hand while looking around the room for a moment, then back to Creamy. Seen from his host perspective, he was perched upside down from the ceiling, much like a bat.

When Creamy stopped talking, Ender couldn't help but flash a grin at the awkward behaviour of his host before responding.

"I'm not sure who you think I am, but rest assured that I've had far worse..." he said, while gesturing for the first class lounge with his free hand "... though judging from the setting and your offer of Jacuzzi, I must inform you that I'm not the man you're looking for."

Ender tilted his head to the side, still looking at Creamy from upside down. "Though, I have contacts which can provide that service..."

While he had been talking, Ender had let go of the rail with his one hand, holding himself still with his feet as he removed his right glove.

Before he continued, his eyes narrowed, and his tone was serious as he next spoke.

"Before we go on, I'm going to warn you; If you value your life, it would be in your best interest to make sure that I don't have any accident while I'm here, and that my ship stay connected with your ship..." having said this, he paused briefly to fold up the right sleeve of his flight suite, revealing the bracelet around his wrist, thw wrist itself having white scars resembling part of a spider web sticking out from under the flight suit. He lightly tapped the bracelet before he continued. "and don't attempt to remove this either. If any of those unfortunate events would happen, this ship will be nothing more than scrap left to salvage..."

Ender folded his flight suit back up over the bracelet, and attached the glove back on. With a smile, he continued.

"Now, back to business. I'm Ender. Do you have any scotch?"

Before he continued, his eyes narrowed, and his tone was serious as he next spoke.

"Before we go on, I'm going to warn you; If you value your life, it would be in your best interest to make sure that I don't have any accident while I'm here, and that my ship stay connected with your ship..." having said this, he paused briefly to fold up the right sleeve of his flight suit, revealing the bracelet around his wrist, the wrist itself having white scars resembling part of a spider web sticking out from under the flight suit. He lightly tapped the bracelet before he continued. "and don't attempt to remove this either. If any of those unfortunate events would happen, this ship will be nothing more than scrap left to salvage..."

Ender folded his flight suit back up over the bracelet and attached the glove back on. With a smile, he continued.

"Now, back to business. I'm Ender. Do you have any scotch?"

The smile didn’t waver and Creamy congratulated himself for not rolling his eyes.

“I should hope so. Ninette, open the bar please.” Said Creamy remaining cordial.  “If you can find it, help ya self that man. I got the ambassador drinks package so the selection should be quite comprehensive”

He had plenty to say about a person that would use a device as stupid as the one Ender just described. Hundreds of things could go wrong on a ship, and this man had decided everyone was gonna get it if one of them happened to Ender.

In the last week or so, Creamy had been held at gunpoint three times, shot at randomly and dodged arrest twice. Even without the running and jumping, or ambush outside the station, he was sick of looking at death's door. Creamy averted his attention back to the ironing pile while the bar unpacked from the wall and floor to let the urge to berate the numb-nut for being so selfish.

“He’s just covering his back” Creamy told himself. “Relax and be a good host”

“Please be careful of the plants while you drift about. They are fake, but they are also part of the air cleaning system in here. That’s why there are so many of them”

Creamy took the last shirt out from under the retaining strap and started getting into the press.

“Get ya self settled, and if you want anything just ask. If I can accommodate you, I shall”

Being committed to the host role now, Creamy was back in his element.

“Forgive the clumsy introduction if you would be so kind, I assumed you were female and had a sort of *welcome script* in mind, and I defaulted to it out of confusion. Perhaps you can tell me how Ellen is getting long, and well talk about how you can help me once your drink is poured”
14 Oct 2020, 6:46pm
Ender gave himself a gently push towards the bar as it folded out, talking as he drifted over.

"Oh, you expected some female company? I have contacts which could provide that for you too, if that's what you're after. I'm sure some would be willing to get over here, for the right price."

Looking through the bar, he found a bottle which seemed to have an interesting one. "You want some yourself?" he said while, not bothering to look for the pressurised nozzles, pulled out the plug and put the thumb of his glove over the opening to stop any floating out, glancing over to Creamy with a raised eyebrow. He then proceeded to move his thumb while moving the bottle slightly away, causing a shimmering amber stream to start to float out of the bottle. With a swift motion, he put his thumb in the way of the liquid and pulled the bottle to the side, himself getting a bit of rotation before he suppressed it with his legs. With his other hand, he put the glove in the way of the shifting tendril and collected it into a few thumb sized globes. While the gloves weren't really meant for this, you didn't really want a flight suit which soaked in liquid, be it water, oil, or various solvents. Using the hydrophobic properties of his suit in this way was just another convenient, and his eyes elegant, way to adapt to a life in space. He gave one of the little globes a nudge towards himself and continued.

"Ellen is doing fine, but I can't go into details of her whereabouts. Do you want me to deliver a message? I'd be happy to assist."

The globe almost at his face, he opened his mouth and moved his head forward and closed his lips around the globe. The warm scent of scotch filled his mouth and nose, and he made a low pleased grunt, nodding to himself.

"For business, I watched everything unfold outside Citi Gateway. I saw the attack. I saw the rest of the wing jump in. I have all of the ships logged in my system. I have enough information to where I could find out more. For the right price, I could find out what they had for breakfast or their last intimate partners. Everything have a price. I can tell this much for free: Who you encounter are not new to this. Everything that happened was done very deliberately. You are lucky to have got away from that."
14 Oct 2020, 10:29pm
It took a fair amount of self-control not to let his jaw go slack watching his guest. It appeared that Ender would have thought being a polite guest would result in his soul being stolen by the *walking man*

That was the second time Ender had offered Creamy a woman of negotiable virtue in as many minuets. Creamy glanced at himself in a mirror to see if he had started looking like the type of man that would have to pay for it. He permitted himself a prideful smile as he admired his perfect features. If all Ender had to offer was an intergalactic escort, Creamy was going to have to disappoint his guest. Viewing the man getting himself a drink was a show worth watching for all the wrong reasons.

Creamy knew what he did with his own fingers, and he was careful about what he touched, but thus far Ender had given him no reason to think the man took the same care and he’d just topped the bottle with his gloved digits. The man didn’t even swig from the bottle, a faux pas that Creamy could at least understand; he let globules of the spirit float about and gulped at them like an alcoholic Goldfish. Not only was Creamy treated to an unhindered view down the man’s throat, he had a clear view up Enders nose. Was it really too much to use a glass and pressurised topper to drink a drink rather than chase it, or even take advantage of the sofa for a polite conversation? It appeared so.

Noting came to mind in the way of a response to that. Creamy was still mystified that Ender was floating about like a fish in tank oblivious to how he was presenting himself.

“Variety is the spice of life” mused Creamy. He just wished Ender wasn’t being quite so spicy right now.

Using a skill that was common to the titled nobles of Cubeo, Creamy managed to convincingly act as if he hadn’t seen or heard anything unsavoury. He put the shirt he was working on to one side and gave the Alcofin, Creamys’ new name for insistent zero-g spirit gulping mammals, his full attention.

Amata Lirein

In the meantime Gerhard, Amata's COVAS, chimed in. "Commander Lirein, Mister Frimantle wants me to relay this message to you. The text message we recieved earlier seems to be from Commander Ao and contains a com frequency as well as an encryption key for it. Do you wish me to establish said channel?"

Amata looked at Nerys. "Shall we or would you prefer reaching Stephens Enterprise first?"

Nerys opened her mouth to answer, but in that exact moment Gerhard said: "New answer from Creamy Goodness".

Dear Nerys
I’ll join you at the station you indicated very soon, but first I feel I should try to locate the gentleman that assisted us. One can’t leave a chap out in the cold after he put himself between us and danger.
I’m am gladdened to hear you and the others are unharmed and out of danger. Do endeavor to stay that way and I will see you very soon.
Warmest regards LCG.

She turned towards Amata. "Well, establishing a contact with Ao seems more urgent, especially considering that Creamy is searching for him too. My suggestion.... but I am just a passenger here... is to establish where every piece is on this chessboard, then we can think of how to move ourselves to avoid checkmate..."
14 Oct 2020, 11:31pm
Amata nods. "I agree. But could you do me a favour? Make Creamy aware once you answer him that his stupidity almost got us all killed. I'll leave it up to you if you want to give him the details on that as well, but maybe realizing that he has put us," she smirked at Nerys, "or at least his beloved doctor in mortal danger with his totally unnecessary solo attempt results in him learning some much needed humility. He could really use a few lessons in that."

Amata takes a deep breath, then turns towards the large viewscreen again. "Gerhard, establish said channel with Commander Ao."
15 Oct 2020, 4:08pm
At the words "beloved doctor", Nerys felt her cheeks becoming even more purple than the usual.

"You know" she said, lowering her eyes and speeding up terribly her talk, like she always did when she felt embarassed. "Probably highlighting my presence isn't the best way to... improve his humility. He genuinely cares for me, but at the same time he wants to... demonstrate it. He has been brave, generous, extremely supportive... but I am afraid he wants from me something that I cannot... that I am not ready to... I mean, probably he sees me different from how I really am, and..."

Finally Nerys was forced to stop, because there was no more air in her lungs.

"Anyway it's a good advice" she added after a quick breath. "Gerhard, record my answer, please."

To Creamy from Nerys Nymei. We are making contact with Ao right now and we should be able to share his position with you very soon. Please do not take unnecessary risks and be extremely careful until we'll be sure that your ship is not tracked. If we move with caution, we will be able to reunite all together very soon. Nerys, out.

Creamy Goodness III

A C Ender

"For business, I watched everything unfold outside Citi Gateway. I saw the attack. I saw the rest of the wing jump in. I have all of the ships logged in my system. I have enough information to where I could find out more. For the right price, I could find out what they had for breakfast or their last intimate partners. Everything have a price. I can tell this much for free: Who you encounter are not new to this. Everything that happened was done very deliberately. You are lucky to have got away from that."

“Now that intelligence.. Mister Ender is it? .. I am interested in. I would indeed like to know why my friend and I have become so very interesting to interstellar rogues and ruffians. Have you a sample of your underworld insight with which to wet my appetite and demonstrate what sort of remuneration I would be encouraged to impart upon you?”

It seemed that Creamy was more interesting in pretending he was in a station with spin gravity, preparing for a party, then enjoy the joy of weightlessness with a drink, so Ender shrugged a bit and slid the plug back on the bottle and put it back into place. The bottle secured, he gave the two remaining globes of whiskey a little nudge with his finger, before setting himself gliding after them through the room, with a slight backward rotation. Having almost reached the opposite wall, he used the palm of his hands to gently slow the globules before his feet touched the wall and made him come to mostly a stop. He was watching Creamy from the side, wondering how long it would take for the man content to put everything in a box of gravity to become frustrated with his antics. In truth, he wasn't really trying to annoy the man. But he found that someone who wasn't comfortable seeing any direction as down might lose their guard when constantly exposed to, in their eyes, a "wrong" appearance.

"Just Ender, please." He gave a smile to Creamy where he sat crouched on a wall, his orientation perpendicular to that of the Imperial man. "You call us 'underworld', and most of you look down on us. But here's the catch: most of us look down on you, because it's us that're free to blaze our own trail. We can do all you do, and all the things that you're afraid of. We're free, while you're in shackles."

He paused to look at the reaction of Creamy. Not that he expected much - the man was pretty good at hiding his emotions. While waiting, he gave another of the scotch globules a nudge and patiently waited for it to reach him. It took several more seconds before he parted his lips in a grin, just before the scotch hit the flesh, and pulled it in through his teeth.

"You're probably wondering how that's supposed to help you. Here's how: I can do the things you can't, because we don't trust you. You're stuck up on your laws and virtue, and given the chance, you will throw us to the dogs. If you try to find out why you've become a target yourself, you will ask the wrong questions to the wrong people. And you will die. Or your loved ones, just for good measure."

Ender shrugs a bit.

"The thing is, one of us can see from a parsec away that you're not one of us. And that's the beauty of this. I don't need you, but you need me. You asked about cost. well, I can get diamonds and the like anywhere. I don't need you for that. But perhaps there is something you can offer me..."

A grin breaks out on his face as he makes a sweeping gesture over the room. "You seem like a well connected individual. Unless this is all for show?" he raise his eyebrows as he say the last part, but doesn't wait for a response, only chuckling briefly before he continues. "Information... If you provide valuable information from 'your world', I will provide 'from mine'."
15 Oct 2020, 8:58pm
Yet more posturing, yet more us and them accusation. Why was it so many people loved to accuse the Empire of being insular and elitist and then treated a representative of the empire with open distain before attempting to be cordial? Was that not the actions of an elitest and insular person? Ender’s distinctions were pitting the virtues of criminals against those that lived within the law, but it was close enough to the pointless prejudices Creamy had experienced since leaving his home. All Creamy wanted to do was have a chat with a chap that had some insight to offer, and as Ender said, go where Creamy couldn’t, then broker a deal with a new partner if not a friend.

Instead, Creamy found himself in some other sort of battel where he was trying to be polite and accommodating even though his guest was bouncing around like a lethargic ball leaving smudges on his walls while menacing some perfectly innocent and hopefully good quality scotch instead of just drinking it.

Resisting the urge to be blunt was taxing. Letting the assertion that crime was some sort of romantic form of freedom from the oppression of society was a tough one to let pass, but guests should be treated with respect along with his differences. As Ender was being husky in the same way as the shady guy in a bar when he spoke, Creamy was having to listen carefully to hear him. Creamy wished he didn’t bother when Ender happened to price himself out of the market.

“Unfortunately for you, this .. “Said creamy with a sweeping gesture” .. is representative of my own hard work. I am, for one reason and another disconnected from my family and its benefits including my home the systems influenced by my landlady”

Ninette played a few notes of a tune. It was a polite way of letting Creamy know he had received a message from Nerys. He felt himself perk up a little and the corners of his lips rose briefly.

“My personal wealth is missing on board a ship of mine I was encouraged to abandon, so I have to earn all I wish to own currently, but I do have a few investments that I may be able to claim soon without suffering early withdrawal penalties. A chap never wants to be known for pulling out early don’ch know?”

“Most of all Ender, you are asking me for information. That sounds innocuous, but it is usually synonymous with betraying someone, or an organisation with which I am involved, and that is impossible. I would no longer be comfortable in my skin if I was to do that, especially deliberately with a self-confessed criminal”

Creamy let Ender observe the hard-set of his face and his defiant body language to help enforce that this point was non-negotiable. Creamy was no fanatical expert or business guru, but he had been presented with many a pitch meeting from hopeful people looking for investors and sat in on countless board meetings. The latter he had attended mostly for the parties and free accommodation in ultra-luxury hotels, but it all still gave Creamy a basic understanding of how a proposal should look, and Ender’s presentation was, from Creamys’ point of view, lacking.

“What’s more you have asked for a lot without presenting a sample of what you offer or displaying your competence. Unless you are willing to entertain other forms of compensation I think our business will, unfortunately, have to be concluded.

Ender gave another low chuckle. before he responded. "Listen, you must think I'm stupid, but I've not asked you to betray anyone you care about. I value information. About whom?" Ender pointed at Creamy "that's where who you are, and what you can do, come in. I don't know you. Everyone know things they care about, and things they don't. Those things you don't care about - they might be useful to someone else. For example, the route of someone you dislike take with a load of diamonds they really could do without. Now, if you are completely against sharing any information about anyone, even an enemy, with anyone, alternate payments could be considered. Given the risks and danger involved, this usually come at significant cost. Most clients prefer to supply something which is substantially cheaper for them."

He took a brief pause, gathering his words, then continued. "What I can offer, depends on our agreement. You just want it to stop? You want a name? You want revenge? You want a meeting? Most things would be possible, given time and motivation. You ask for my competence? Do you think I would be able to openly fly with this mark..." Ender said, pointing to the hilt of his dagger "outside of their sphere of influence and still be alive, if I was not competent? They do not like imposers either, so go ahead and read between the lines. I will tell you this: your attackers have shown some signs of being part of a larger organisation, but it will take some time to confirm it. If I am right, I would discourage you to visit any populated system for any extended time, unless you are confident you can remain undetected. That's all I can disclose in good faith. Any further details I have about your attackers already would cost you."

Ender falls silent, quietly observing Creamy. He had a feeling he might have pushed the man a bit too hard. He seemed on edge now, but perhaps this had been enough to calm his nerves. To further make this point, he pushed himself of the wall to what creamy would see as the floor, very softly landing on it to stop himself bouncing of, now for the first time looking at Creamy from the right side up. He had tried to sneakily catch the last globule of scotch during the movement, the drop now bouncing within his closed left hand, held together by hydrostatic pressure, unwilling to wet his hydrophobic glove.

Rose sat up, the room was dark aside from the low lighting mounted in strips at the base of the walls and bed.
The display on her bedside table chimed again.

Groggily, smacking her parched lips and brushing rebellious strands of hair from her face, Rose turned to face the display and immediately recognised the encryption key;
It was the one she had transmitted to the Astarte.

Without hesitation she leaned to press the answer button and open a video line, catching herself just before her finger hit the video button.

That would have been incredibly embarrassing considering she was in the nude.
Quickly she pulled the covers back up to her chin and pressed the button for voice-only.

"Astarte, Acting Captain Yamamoto here, how can I help?"

Amata raised an eyebrow as a female voice answered, looking a bit confused at Nerys, then decided to not give out any names until she learned what was going on. "I was expecting to speak to Commander Ao. Where is he?"

What was it that had given Ender the impression Creamy thought less of the man’s intelligence? Creamy had done his utmost to be courteous and accommodating; he certainly avoided outright insulting his guest. Was it having principles and making it clear he made his own dictions that he would stand by that upset Ender, Amata and.. .Jonathan?

“Well hard cheese” was Creamys’ unequivocal response to that, but his farther took the same stance and failed to vex people left and right. For now Creamy decided to reassure his guest and propose a way forward in their negotiations before reading Nerys' message.

“I would not be so rude as to think low of your cognitive reasoning after such a short natter Ender. I can only surmise you may have the impression I am trying to mislead you in regard to my wealth and influence. My last few years of work history is almost a matter of public record. If you look into it, you will find I have spent the majority of my time flying on mostly subcontracts to a few passenger liner companies, and serving as both a performer and Master of Ceremonies for the evening floor show on the more salubrious liners or tourist destinations. You will also find I have not had a single word of contact with my home or its accompanying systems for around five years”

The names of his mother and farther on the recent messages he had received weighed heavily in Creamys’ mind briefly.

“I do wish to make use of the abilities you profess to have, but I will need more than convincing rhetoric to encourage me to part with anything of value. What’s more, I will not entertain an indistinct mafia-style favour, or an ambiguous request for information that could very well lead to a less than above board opportunity. Once you have bought me a tantalising snippet of information myself and my friends would be hard-pressed to acquire, perhaps myself or my..”

Creamy was going to use the word friends again, but then he remembered Amata’s derogatory attitude and .. Jack muttering under his breath while swearing at Creamys’ feet after being confronted about an egregious insinuation.

“..Well, some people I know that may be predisposed to offering you the more lucrative opportunities you desire”

“Agreeable to you that man?” said Creamy brightly with raised eyebrows.

Rose was about to reply when she felt the bed move slightly as Ao sat up and placed his hand on her shoulder;
She rested her cheek on his hand for a moment feeling it's warmth before getting up and heading over to the bathroom to get a glass of water.

Ao, with great difficulty, moved into the spot Rose had just vacated in the bed, he found it difficult to formulate the sentence, and took a few moments, to think, before carefully, and deliberately replying, his speech slurring slightly;
"It's good to hear from you Amata, I'm..."
He had to stop for breath...that was odd?
"I'm glad you three got clear ok, how are you holding up?"

Rose looked back into the room from the bathroom, feeling rude for interrupting the conversation;
"Ao? Are you ok?"

Her bare feet patted quietly on the cold metal of the floor as she moved to the light switch.
She almost wished she hadn't turned on the light.

Ao had pale skin normally, but not this pale...
She couldn't help but compare his current complexion to the ice white of gutamaya, his hair was sodden and plastered to his forehead, sweat could be clearly seen running down his face, in the glare of the lights she could see that his pillow and side of the bed was drenched.

The glass slipped from between her fingers and shattered on the deck plates, shards cutting into her feet as she ran over to the bedside.

Ao just waved his hand drunkenly and mumbled something along the lines of 'I'm Fine' before speaking to the monitor again;

"Please excuse the commotion, Rose and the carrier's doctor seem to think I'm a bit fragile right now..."

As Ao was speaking Rose had placed her hand on his forehead...he was on fire!
Pulling on her sweat pants and one of Ao's shirts as she went, Rose crossed the room to the communication's panel by the door and pressed the general call button;
"Doctor Forge to the Captain's Quarters aboard the Yamato now!"

Ao groaned like a sulking teenager, and regretted it, he struggled to replace the air from his lungs he had expended making the childish gesture and felt the world begin to spin about him...the strength went out from the arm he had propped himself on when speaking into the console, and collapsed down onto his back still speaking to Amata;

"We've been in contact with Creamy, he also got clear ok and is due to rendezvous with the Star Wolf soon..."
