I agree with this. I have a Python specifically built for mining (laser mining, anyway). It paid for itself fast.
Yes indeed it is. I have enjoyed many wonderful things in this community and it's a hard decision for me. Thank you for the fun times and interesting stories.

Yes and no. Stories often imitate life from time to time. I appreciate you all and hope to one day pop in but I'm not making a single promise to anyone. I'd rather not get your hopes up only to crush them.

O7 all. Silvia signing off.

You have my best wishes. And if you won't return here anymore, I hope it's because you now have far more interesting and valuable stuff to do.

:P

I even traveled to the starter system HIP 97950 because ShinDez is so calm these days. But yeah, the CG system might be a good place to find some trouble.

It's always a sad day when another leaves the community. Thanks for being here and making/sharing memories with us all. Wishing you the best as you move forward.
Just a quick question - why does the site seem to think HIP 15415 is invaded? As far as I'm aware, that is not the case...

So, Medusas are pink, red(/black) and angry, and unreasonably tough.

At least if you’re having to deal with one in a CZ after you already took down two Basilisks and a Cyclops prior. Wasn’t quite as bad as that time I took on the Hydra within that space CZ (so no convenient rearm/repair)… but I had a lot of broken stuff on the ship following that fight. (Not broken enough to stop me from showing the single remaining Cyclops that it should probably not have stuck around, though.)

You may be doing something "wrong", there is quite a lot of PvP activity, in average twice more than the last year (at least in regard of PvP deaths, Inara stats only, of course). Stop playing in Solo!
13 Jun 2024, 12:50am
Well, 1 or 2 may be seen as 'extreme' when the baseline is 0... :p
13 Jun 2024, 12:44am
None even in the CG system? Inara seems to think it’s an “Extreme” threat location in regards to player aggression but could also be piracy.

When even idiots leave the game then it's really sad. :p

Have all the gankers left the game? The hotspots have been awfully quiet lately.
I decided to ´preserve my brain's energy for the upcoming mission as much as possible, and answered via another text message, stopping close to a doorway to write it.

Yes, I will be taking my Phantom. And, as matter of fact... it does come with a surface scanner. I figured, it would be good to have, in case I need to find something on a surface that normal scanners will not find, from orbit. But the main sensor array is also the best available, if lightweighted, rather than modified for maximum range. Can fight, generally prefer to avoid it.

Also has a vehicle hangar. But the Scorpion only has one seat now. A... modification, for me to get around in it.

As for carriers... they are not too subtle, and mine being there might not be seen as a coincidence, if those Black Flight pokers... as in, poking, not the card game, are monitoring surrounding systems. Yours... maybe, less so. If we take one at all, but I may bring some cargo space instead of fuel scoop if bringing the carrier.

I continued on my way after I had confirmation the message had well been sent. Wasn't that much further, though. Probably.
Just as I was about to strut out of the hangar towards the bridge, a message from Kasumi buzzed in. She'd wrapped up her meet and was itching to plot the next steps of our mission.

"I’d say we snag at least one of our carriers and hop to a system next door to our mark. Keeps us off the radar, yet primed with options for tweaking our ships' setups. If you reckon it's worth the hustle, we can roll out both carriers – gear up to the nines."

I mulled it over for a hot sec, then laid out my game plan.

"I'm thinking of piloting a Mamba in hunter mode for this gig. She's got the sensors to sniff out a ship and the muscle to yank one out of Supercruise. But then, I'm short of a decent planet scanner... What about you? Gonna take your Phantom for a spin?"
"I guess, at least, things between the two of you are pretty clear, and you still work together. It's something."

Jana's remark was certainly true. She also continued before I replied anything.

"I bet there's probably been stranger combinations... duos, out there, anyway. It's the stuff of stories and movies, but a thief and police officer working together to stop some shitty thing happening, well, it's probably happened at some point, somewhere. But a really curvy woman who stays on the legal side of things, mostly, and a pirate... it's up there, alright."

"It... might have. But I am not aware, if so.", I answered to the fictional bit, not knowing much else to say on this.

"Sure. So, anything else I need to know about what we're gonna do later?"

I shook my head. "Not... yet. But, we should, meet here again. On the carrier, before going."

"Okay. If you ever want or need help with this, feel free to ask, though. You know I've got a bone to pick with Azimuth as well."

Jana winked at me.

"I... will. If we need it. We, might."

"Just shout at me if you do. Figuratively. You've probably also got a bit of preparing left to do, so, leave you to it, yeah?"

"Ok. Bye."

"Bye! And come back in one piece. I'd hate for the world to lose your curves."

She was so awful. I waved at her as she walked out the door, and Jana waved back. Now I just needed to convince myself to abandon the comfy position of leaned against the table... which would probably have been weird to anyone else, but I was so big that I could pretty much stay in it as long as possible without feeling a thing down there.

Given that I didn't know what to expect too well, I'd probably pay that facility a visit in my Phantom. The question was... what was worth bringing along more on it. Fuel scoop, FSD booster or cargo rack... I decided to send a message out to my pirate helper before I left the data lab. Typing it while walking invited for me to bump into somebody on the way to the hangar.

I am going to prepare now. Done talking, with Jana. That's her name... in case, I forgot to mention. (I probably did)

What do you think I should bring on my ship? Are we going there with just the ships or using a carrier? It may depend on that, too.

-K

Off went the message, and so did I begin waltzing over to my ship. Hopefully, without embarrassing incidents on the way.
As I left the Dolphin in the hangar of my carrier, my eyes fell on the ships lined up there. My gaze wandered over the sleek contours of a Krait Phantom - the type of ship Kasumi would probably choose - and the formidable presence of a Fer-de-Lance, until a black shadow caught my eye. There, swallowing the soft glow of the hangar lights, stood the ‘Relentless‘ - my Mamba.

This was a ship that didn’t just slice through the void; it danced with it. It was a testament to speed and aggression, a vessel that could outrun many other ships and turn the tide of any encounter with its blistering pace. I approached the Mamba, my hand brushing against the cool metal of its hull. I could almost feel the thrum of the engines, the silent promise of adrenaline-fueled escapades that lay ahead.

In my mind, I played out the scenarios. The Mamba would allow myself to strike swiftly, to hit hard and vanish before anyone could react. It was perfect for a mission that required a quick entrance and an even quicker exit. With a nod to myself, I sealed my fate with the ship that matched my spirit - to live boldly, to fly fearlessly, and to write my own legend- the ship that would carry me through the stars with the speed of a comet, knowing it would make a good addition to a Krait Phantom.

Then a thought came to me that made me laugh. The funny thing was that the curvy Kasumi would have the better curving ship with the Phantom - the Mamba is often seen as a ‘hit-and-run‘ fighter due to its speed, allowing it to engage and disengage quickly, while the Krait Phantom is viewed as more of a ‘hang-in-there‘ fighter with somewhat better turning performance.

This train of thought also brought the damned catchy tune back to my mind.... I hummed ‘Kasumi bump bump bump‘ and laughed out loud.

For pure hauler you can use cheap type 6 and 7. You do not need expensive ship like python/type-9 for this.

For mining you can start as low as cobra mk3 to try both types of mining then you can switch to more expensive if you like it.

Sorted from cheap to wxpensive: Asp Explorer, krait mk2, python, type 9, Anaconda or rank locked big boiz.

You cannot comprehend the pain of engineering a Type-10 for hull/ bank tank with rails and PAs.

This must be something new. At least after September 2022 as this is the last time I have transferred funds to my FC and it wasn't like you describe.
12 Jun 2024, 6:38pm
Yeah you're not the first to recommend the nine to me, but even just the hull is far enough for my price range it's at best a long term plan. (Otherwise I'd have gotten myself a Python already)

I saw the Krait II mentioned often and I can buy it stock in the short term, or (By a friend's recommendation) take a step "back", outfit an aspx for mining, and try to build up cash reserves through that for a Python or what have you
12 Jun 2024, 4:19pm
Here is my non-answer: It depends on what you want to do or enjoy doing. Try all types of mining and determine what you like best.

Surface mining - fast but common, low payout minerals
Subsurface mining - slow with a mixture of high and low payout minerals. (I find this one the most annoying)
Core mining - can be frustrating finding suitable asteroids, even in a hot zone, but the minerals tend to be more valuable (my preferred method)

As I said, I am weirdo and use a type 9 for mining. I tend to focus on core mining but have equipped the ship for all mining so I can hit targets of opportunity.
2 2B Seismic launchers
1 2B subsurface launcher
1 1D abrasion blaster
1 1D mining laser

The ship is not intended to fight. It either runs away or ejects the requested cargo if it cannot escape.
I wasn't going to get out of the conversation that easily, so I decided to go with it.

"Interesting... I guess, yes. I do not know, where things will go, between us... but, the pilot thing. Apparently, they attacked a transport, or miner... with her on it, because they found some Thargoid thingy. I do not remember the details, too well, but they fought the ship off, and captured the pilot... then killed them, after questioning. Maybe it was a him, but ..." I shrugged. "Not important. So... that is why, the necklace, came into play."

"And where is your... 'associate', from?", Jana then asked.

"Somewhere... on the edge. Of the Bubble, even, past where Titans sit. In a place called 'Pirate's Lament'... but the system, still uses the old designator. Some... astro-whatever, catalogue, of old Earth days. I do not know why they still use it... maybe, nobody found better."

That was my best guess to that matter, anyway. Jana, meanwhile, was giving me a strange look.

"You, working with a pirate? Now there's something I wouldn't have expected.", she chose to remark.

"I... did not, have much choice. She claims, to be a 'good' pirate... whatever it, means. But I have made it clear, I am not favorable toward pirates."
I lounged comfortably in the Dolphin‘s luxurious passenger cabin, the soft hum of the carrier Abode fading into a distant memory. The cabin’s lavish amenities surrounded me, from the plush seating to the ambient lighting that even took into account the light of the constellations outside, the ship‘s advanced systems ensuring a ride devoid of turbulence.

As I gazed out at the passing stars, I felt a sense of belonging to something greater - a network of travelers, explorers, and adventurers, all seeking the thrill of discovery. I thought about the friends I had made along the way and those I had lost. Who knows, maybe a friendship would develop here too over time. After our last mission, I no longer thought this was completely out of the question, and I had to admit that working together was sometimes quite entertaining, at times even amusing and definitely successful.

Before I knew it, the familiar silhouette of my own carrier came into view, its massive bow, typical of the Victory class, concealing the light of nearby stars. The pilot’s voice broke the silence.

“Welcome to your destination,” he announced with a hint of satisfaction about a job well done. “I hope the journey was as pleasant for you as it was for me.”

Not sure about mouse but I just hold down the UI Right binding (right arrow for me). Initially the transfer goes slow but picks up the speed quickly, 720 t ought to be just a few seconds.

Unfortunately this hold-to-speed-up logic does not work when transferring cargo from your FC — the transfer speed stays constant. Transferring 720 t of anything to your ship is a real PITA; it may be actually faster to set the commodity to ‘sell’ then buy it from your own FC. (For transfers to your FC, the ‘Transfer all’ button works, mercifully; alas, in the other direction the button is pretty useless.)

Pro tip: When transferring funds to your FC you can just highlight the amount field and type the amount you want.

Now I see where engineering starts to be a real pain in the arse. :p
12 Jun 2024, 2:38pm
That's the plan, I have been mostly running multipurpose but when upgrading I do plan on for example removing several bells and whistles from my Chief to make it more outright combative

My question is mostly what I should go for for a miner/hauler (FWIW I know there's two types of mining and I'm not sure which to go for). I'm eyeing the Krait (either Krait) price range but I don't want to pull the trigger on something that's not what I'm thinking about

Ow. Turns out, I am stupid, but not in the way I thought. Well... Such is life :p

I can recommend personal hostings. They aren't free but neither expensive nor complicated on the 'just a place to keep a few files' level.
