General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Stryker had gone back to his ship to freshen up and changed his clothes. He was wearing another cut stringer, this time it was black, with the logo "Do you even lift?" with a red silhouette of a bodybuilder pulling a double bicep pose behind the lettering. His trousers were army fatigue print cargo pant like, and he wore his heavy armor plated boots.

He was walking down the hall and rounded the corner. He was taken back by the current scene. Some woman's back was to him and had a gun pointed at Cartlidge, and the man just tossed a canister at her. In response she kicked a downed security drone. He knew Cartlidge was a bounty hunter. Was this a mark he had found? He somewhat liked the man, despite him causing all that trouble for him earlier, and that stint in the hospital wing. At the time he was resentful, and it grew when the Federation officer was trying to cart him off to some penal colony. But something also good came from it all. It turned out that Commander Hail was a pretty cool cat, and he also quite liked her. Not in a romantic way, but in a way that was more comradely.

He pulled out his weapon and aimed it at the woman's head. The red laser dot dancing over the back of her dome.

"She's not causing you trouble is she?" He asked Cartlidge in a growl.
26 Oct 2016, 2:15am
"Actually," Cartlidge started, he was a little surprised to see Stryker, and especially surprised to see him take his side, but there was not time to consider that. In the next moment, the canister detonated violently in the woman's hand. It was a grenade, but not the kind that Stryker had unintentionally dropped when they had first met. No, this special little device was a favorite of Cartlidge's for when he felt that he needed to get the upper hand. When activated, it still detonated in a way that was rather painful if one was too close (as they usually were when Cartlidge would toss the canister), but instead of shrapnel or incendiary paste it released a heavy cloud of smoke, making it difficult to see for anyone who lacked protective gear or augmented vision.

As the white cloud rapidly engulfed the section of hallway both Ten and Cartlidge sidestepped to avoid any round the woman may have fired out of reaction, and Cartlidge drew his own shock pistol, ready to fire.
26 Oct 2016, 2:30am
"This is twice now a meeting has been rudely interrupted" was what Lilith would have said, but she'd barely made it past the second word before the device detonated in her closed hand.

Before she knew it she was engulfed in a thick plume of smoke and all she could tell was her left hand now hurt like absolute hell and with her right she instinctively fired shots in random directions, hoping one of them would hit someone, or something, important.

It wasn't long before the cloud begun to rob her lungs of oxygen and she was coughing and spluttering before eventually conceding and dropping her gun in order to pull her jumper up over her nose and mouth and act as a makeshift filter. Not that this helped her vision in the slightest as she fell to her knees due to the light headedness brought on by the coughing fit.

Stryker was a considerable distance away. The grenade exploded, and instinct kicked in. He shielded his face with his beefy arm, and when he lowered it, he saw that the woman was shrouded in smoke. He could not see Cartridge and Ten steal away as they were screened by the haze. He turned and found an access panel set into the wall. He opened it, and called up the emergency line. Security would be notified of the incident.
26 Oct 2016, 5:15pm
Cartlidge moved to act before the station's ventilation system could clear the smoke. As the woman continued to fire haphazardly, Cartlidge used his own pistol as well, setting the charge to an appropriate level to incapacitate the woman. He doubted the likelihood of missing his mark.
26 Oct 2016, 8:54pm
Still coughing and struggling to breath, Lilith crawled around blindly using her still painful and bleeding hand to hold the jumper in place, and the other in an effort to find her gun. She had a funny feeling what was coming next, but surely the smoke was too thick right?? Just in case, she securely pushed the memory stick right into her trousers to ensure it wouldn't go missing, located her gun, inhaled as deeply as she could before pulling her jumper off her face then wobbled to her feet, still lightheaded from lack of oxygen, and held her arms open and shouted. "GO ON THEN!!!" Followed by a lot more coughing as the smoke entered her lungs again.
26 Oct 2016, 9:06pm
Security had received the call. An explosive device had gone off. A team of four in full gear rounded the corner and took up the offensive.

"Drop the weapon, hands where we can see them! The ordered. Their pulse rifles aimed on the targets.

Stryker had put his hands up and nodded towards the troublemakers directing the security detachment.
27 Oct 2016, 2:41am
Cartlidge was just about to drop the woman when he and Ten noticed several other figures approaching. They hear one barking orders and quickly realize that they were more security.

Did that little drone seriously manage to call for help before she killed it? Cartlidge thought as he turned to take hold of Ten yet again and run in the opposite direction. The woman seemed like someone who had a fairly high set of bounties on her head, so he was reluctant to go, but four fully armed officers were a little more than what he wanted to deal with at the moment.
27 Oct 2016, 6:57am
At this point the smoke began to clear as the ventilation system kicked in. Just as Lilith saw the pair running off she heard the voices behind her and realised the game was up. *Well played* she thought to herself, *I guess you win this time*.

She looked down at her hand to assess the damage, a couple of fingers were bent a funny shape and a large, but mostly cauterised gash spread from the bottom of her palm to her pinky. The force of the blast had also tore a few gashes into the back of her hand.

Hearing the footsteps marching up towards her she quickly stowed her sidearm and pressed her thumb into the gash. This drew more blood but caused her eyes to water in time for her to turn around and meet the guards head on.

"Please help!! That man destroyed a drone and attacked me!!," she cried, "I was just trying to find my coat and he came bursting out of nowhere, next thing I knew there was smoke everywhere and... My hand, look at my hand!!!"

In a final show of victimisation, she threw herself over one of them, hugging him as tightly as she could and sobbing. Having the added benefit of preventing their Warrant Scanners getting a clear lock on her, then Lilith pointed in the direction the two fled. Part of her hoped they'd escape, she wanted to deal with them again personally.

Mark wasn't the top of his academy class, neither was he the slacker. He was average, and was pleased when he graduated. That meant he could find a job. And so he did. With the Citi Gateway security force. He had only been on staff for a few weeks and enjoyed his job. Now there was a call. A man had called in indicating there was an altercation and a grenade of some sort had been used. Internal sensors had verified the claim.

Mark suited up into his tactical gear and was placed into a team of four. They quickly made their way to the site. There was much confusion. The smoke cleared and a woman was saying something, but he couldn't hear her, then suddenly she bolted towards him. Was she friendly? He didn't have to think. Adrenaline pumping he assumed she was hostile. He pulled the trigger of his weapon. There was a blast as the slug was propelled from the muzzle at high velocities. He watched the bullet rip through her shoulder as if it was all in slow motion.

Stryker stood there, with his hands raised. He wasn't about to get involved in that mess.

"We have one down," he heard one of the security detachments say into a comm at his shoulder. "We need medical assistance."

Another one came foward and inquired the other "I thought I saw another, possibly two through the smoke."

Stryker called out. "Yes, there was. A man by the name Cartridge, and there was a woman with him. I think he was the one that tossed the grenade. He has a cybernetic eye." Stryker, inwardly relished in the idea of paying back his friend.
.
One of the security signed to Mark and another. "Find them." He said. They followed the order and started down the hall looking for the other two.
27 Oct 2016, 6:55pm
Despite the tears, and the pain, and the shouting, Lilith still got shot. Time slowed down as the slug entered her shoulder blade. *And people wonder why I hate security.* she thought

The shot continued on through her shoulder, exiting out through the shoulder, *Clean shot, good, minimal damage unless.... Artery maybe??* She wasn't a doctor, hell ,most she'd done is pop someones knee back into place.

*Guess this is it then?* As the force of the shot spun her round 180 degrees and she fell, landing on her back with a thump. Blood began pooling around her and she turned her head to look down the street. She had no idea why, but spotting her trenchcoat lying in a heap, she reached out for it with her right hand. If she could grab it, everything would be okay, right???

To Lilith, all of this took an age. In reality, she had passed out before the guards had even begun chasing the man and woman whose faces were now embedded in her memory.

Stepping out onto the floor where his favorite dive was, Amar saw his armband light up. "Priority Signal" It flashed. He quickly scanned the contents of the file and then stepped backwards back onto the lift. "Time to go to work." He thought.
18 Nov 2016, 1:16pm
Muninn stepped through the doorway of the bar, contemplating everything that has happened recently. Shrugging off his jacket, he placed it into a booth, indicating Tove to do the same. As she followed suit, her second started gesturing to tables so the gang had even coverage in the bar in case anyone tried to make a shot at their boss or their benefactor.

Nodding to the barman, Muninn asked for a bottle of Achenar Blue and indicated the group of men covered in tattoos and scars. "They drink on my tab, don't let them get too drunk though. They have a job to do."

Taking the bottle over to the table, Muninn sat across from Tove, pouring her a drink before speaking. "As you know, I have been given a sizable budget to run a crew, enough in fact to maintain two ships. Now, obviously I can't command and pilot two ships."

Tove sniffed and leant forward. "You mean to ask, am I willing to sell my ship and crew into servitude? Who do you think I am?" She looked displeased. Her expression not soft or warming.

"I mean I will be looking to hire a commander and their crew, and have them be privateers for the Empire. You're still allowed to pirate, still allowed to do what you want. However you can't hit Empire assets and may be called upon to aid myself and my squadron in certain tasks. The pays fair, and the lifestyle would be a lot better as you won't have to dock in the dregs of the galaxy. What do you say?" Muninn kept his face straight, sipping silently from his glass. "Besides, I would never insult you, would be demeaning of the memory of your husband."
19 Nov 2016, 8:28pm
Tove played with her drink, looking round at her crew thoughtfully. "How good is the pay?"

Muninn chuckled producing a tablet. "100 million a year plus whatever you acquire. Free docking and ship repairs in Leopold Heckman Ring, and not forgetting reduced housing in the station." Muninns mouth pulled to the side, raising his cheek in a wry sideways smile.

Tove sighed and took up the tablet, looking over the contract on the screen. "Upgrades to my ship? I don't fancy trying to keep up with your Python with shorter legs."

"Everything will be sorted once you dock in Malaikudi, we have business here of course, but you can appreciate that." Muninn looked at the door while sipping his drink, hoping no one walked in on the underhanded deal. Thankfully the bar has been empty apart from the crew and Tove.

What in the name of our gracious lady Gaia has been going on here?

"Either there's one amazing party going on here, or we've stumbled into a crime scene. That woman over there... is she dead? And what's that smell? Has a bomb gone off?"

I'd heard this bar was busy, but this is ridiculous...

"There's an empty alcove over there, Kyla. Come on, let's take a seat and order our drinks."
