General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Locke watched Marra and Idris leave, and sat down in the now vacant booth.
Pulling out a PDA, he begins to write a message to Stryker.

"Talked to Marra, she seems to have calmed down a bit, as in less violently angry. She left the bar.
Maybe you want to come down here and talk about whatever just happened?" He hit send and placed the device face down onto the table.

After a long exhale, he looks back at the device, and puts it into his pocket before going over to the bar to order a bottle of Cubeo Gold, with two glasses and then returns to the booth, placing one of the glasses on the far side, across from him, and filled the one he had directly in front of him.
25 Nov 2016, 12:06am
Stryker walked into the bar, with appropriate attire. He found the booth with Locke sitting quietly in it. Stryker pulled himself opposite of him, and noticed the damage his cybernetic claw had done to the table.

He looked across and saw the Cubeo Good, and the two glasses. Despite being Imperial at birth, he never had such an expensive liquor. He didn't know Locke well. He wasn't sure what to expect from the man. He knew he was Imperial and was concerned that he would conduct himself with that high and might attitude many imperials were plagued with. Yet here he was running with a band of pirates.

He had some explaining to do. He sighed.

"I never had Cubeo Gold before. This stuff is pretty expensive, yes?"
25 Nov 2016, 1:02am
Locke reached grabbed the bottle and filled Strykers glass halfway.

"Relatively expensive, yes, if you compare it to an Old Sol. Next to an Achenar? Not so much. Doesn't matter either way, if you want an Achenar or an Old Sol, I'm happy to pay for them. It's really not a worry. I'm just still confused over exactly what happened today."

Stryker and Locke had never really talked. He understood that Stryker was a mechanic of some sort, and Locke was one of Black Omega's soldiers, but they had rarely ever cross paths.

"It's not everyday I see a man dressed as a mole walk into a bar, and if did see it everyday, I'm sure I would send myself to some sort of Psychiatric ward." He said with a slight smile. "Just trying to process everything currently, I'm sure it would help if you explained."

25 Nov 2016, 1:27am
Stryker took a sip of the beverage. It was nice. He folded his arms, and lead on the table. "The Federal Intelligence Service, has taken an interest in Black Omega. Specifically, Marra. An operative by the name of Yvette tasked me with the deed of bugging her and her ship."

He paused for a moment.

"I needed a way of completing this task. Actually carrying it out in a way that I would not have to say a word, but make it obvious what was going on. It might surprise you Locke, but I don't like lying. If this Yvette person contacted me and asked if I bugged her, I could, in full truth, say yes."

He took another sip.

"If she used some sort of truth test, it would say I was being truthful."  He sighed. "I'm rambling now. Point is, I'm a bloody mole for the Federation. Tricked, by a girl, and sucked into this mess."
25 Nov 2016, 3:20am
Locke maintained eye contact with Stryker solidly as he spoke. When he finished Nicholas looked down into his drink and took a long sip.

"Alright, Let's just ignore the whole 'Federation' thing right now, because if we didn't, Im probably go bloody mental... Black Omega as a whole, or just Marra, and why not Deggie, or anyone else?"

He looked over at the Cubeo gold sitting between the men.
Might have to end up getting an Achenar Blue, after all.

"And who is Yvette, what can you tell me about her? Details, facial features, superior officers, location?"
25 Nov 2016, 3:55am
"Yvette wanted a mole within the Black Omega organization itself. But she specifically tasked me to bug Marra, and Marra's ship. Why not Deggie, or anyone else, I couldn't say." Stryker shrugged his broad shoulders and took another sip. "She had a boner for Marra."

"The particular location of this F.I.S branch was, on Mars. Olympus village. Under a museum. Kinda odd. It was a maze of doors down there." He continued. "Anyway, this Yvette chick was short, with red hair. Pretty cut and trim; business fashion."

He shifted his weight. "I can understand why Marra would be pissed, but there is a practical side to this. She, or BO has control over what information they wish to funnel the F.I.S." He paused again. "I just have to figure out how to wash my hands of this. No doubt they will be clinging to me like a bad hemorrhoid. And if they get wind I spilled the beans." He ran a finger along his throat. "Which weirdly enough, they knew I would do anyway....." He thought for a moment. "Look, I'm no secret agent. Just a gear head that seems to have a special knack for making crap work."
25 Nov 2016, 4:09am
"I'm well aware that we have control over what information we give them, that's what I told Marra to help calm her down a bit. She might have what is needed to be successful in the Pegasi, but I don't know if she can completely understand the whole espionage game. Doubt its what Rabat focused on in their 'teachings.'"

Locke took a quick look around the bar, which was now mostly vacant now. He grabbed the bartender's attention and mouthed "Blue" at him, to which he received a simple nod back. Nicholas focused his attention back onto Stryker.

"Alright. I'm going to do what I can to stop Marra from putting you under a hydraulic press, but why were you in contact with the F.I.S? No offence to you or anything, but you're right, you're no secret agent. What makes you their first pick to be a mole? You're hardly the most subtle person they could find."

Mason nodded at medic 242, while inoculating the injured man with a cocktail of antitoxins.

Musta been some strong stuff.

He started to dig through the unconscious hunter's utility harness for signs of identification. Meanwhile, one of the officials had ruled that the bottles that had been tampered with were disposed of accordingly and the bartender reopened Old Sol on the beverage menu.

Mason furrowed his brow whilst gazing at the documentation. "Bloody hell."

Snipes woke up from his stupor and locked eyes on the medical supervisor. "Much obliged for the rescue, but I need to take care of something gravely important."

Mason raised an eyebrow to the strapped down hunter. "I bet you do, Viscount. Or should I call you Rear Admiral?" He gestured at medic 242, "Besides, he's the one who saved you. I just get to deal with the paperwork." Mason unlashed the man from the stretcher and helped him to his feet.

Snipes dusted himself off and secured his effects. He looked around at the room, and most everyone had gone about their business. I feel stupid. He gestured respectfully at medic 242. "Thank you, good sir." He offered him a black privately secured credit chit. "For your troubles."
25 Nov 2016, 12:44pm
Einar shifted uncomfortably, trying not to meet Tove's eyes. "You're not soft. It's just... We need our Jarl back. His line was good stock and his history made for a good warrior."

He shuffled in his seat, reaching for his drink. "Of course you're good stock because of your father, but you haven't got what your husband had. Fyrirgef mik, minn Earl."

Tove looked at him for a good long moment, burning holes into his forehead. "You don't think I'm as strong as him? Fine."

Getting up, she sauntered over to Muninn, and leant over. Muninn looked up as his view was blocked of the scene in front of him. "Good evening, fancied talking to me agai... What in Achenar do you think you're doing?!"

As Muninn exclaimed, Tove grabbed him by the bicep, dragging him from his seat. Pulling him across the bar, she stood in front of the table holding the big muscled guy and a sleek man wearing black. "Afsaka, I'm Tove. I've been told by this young lad that muscles here knows him." Muninn sighed, rolling his eyes. It wasn't the quiet night he expected.
25 Nov 2016, 3:49pm
Stryker took another sip. "No offence taken. I'm the last person anyone would...."

He stopped mid sentence, his attention fixed on his cybernetic claw.

"Oh for the love of..." He scowled. "I completely forgot about this..." Looking around he waved down a server and asked for two large ceramic serving plates. She nodded and took off to the kitchen.

Stryker turned his attention to a work bag that he brought along. He flipped open the flap and pulled out a tool. It was cylindrical in shape and ended in a sharp point

"I met this girl." He said to Locke as he pried open a tiny hatch on the tool, and removed a power core. "She seemed really cool. Very confident. Not very flowery..." The large man started rummaging in his bag again. He pulled out some sort of diagnostic tool. He pried the back off, flipped it over and removed some sort of coil. "Phase inducer....Anyway, I did a bit of bunker breaker for her..." He looked around and found a salt shaker. Taking it, the bodybuikder unscrewed the metallic seive top. "Faraday cage....she uh, asked if I knew how how to break into a safe..." He pulled a pin off his jacket, then he took out his data pad and pried that open.  "It was fairly simple and straight foward job. Easy peesy lemon squeezee." He said as he pulled out a circuit board, and some short wires.

He started jury-rigging the components together. "Anyway, I really liked her. She said if I was looking for more work, go to Olympic Village..." He affixed the newly constructed component to his cybernetic claw then detached it from his arm, setting it on the table next to the wall. He looked up.

"If you have any electronics you care about I suggest you give them to me." Stryker said as the server returned with the plates.

Muninn coughed softly. "Yes, hello Stryker, this is Tove. Tove, Stryker. As for the other guy, I don't know him." Muninn waved his hand dismissively, wondering why Tove dragged him away from his drink.
25 Nov 2016, 4:06pm
Medic 242 waved the chip off. "Sorry," he said. "Against orders, but no problem. Just doin' my job." Satisfied that the job was complete, the troupe of medics turned and exited the bar.
25 Nov 2016, 6:41pm
Locke reached into his pocket to pull out his PDA and held it out in front of him, toward Stryker.

"Only electronic I've got. Everything else is mechanical, don't like laser weapons, prefer kinetics, and I doubt my knives would be affected by whatever you're doing."

The bartender arrived carrying the bottle of Achenar Blue that Nicholas had requested. He took the drink from the mans hand and placed the bottle down onto the table.
Locke took the glass, which still contained a small amount of Cubeo Gold, and finished it off before pouring in the Blue.

"Man, you should've known going to the Fed capital planet wasn't a bright idea, under any circumstances." Nicholas finished with a sip of the new drink in front of him.

Locke looked up at the two people approaching the table, and saw the man introduce the woman who dragged him over to Stryker.

"I'm sorry, but, who are you? Me and my friend here are sorting some things ou-" Locke interrupted himself to turn to the man across from him, "Stryker, what the hell are you even doing?"
26 Nov 2016, 12:15am
Stryker looked over at Tove and Muninn. "Uh, nice to meet'cha. This isn't really a good time, and if you care about your electronic devices I would stand about a meter and a half away..." He took the PDA from Locke and placed it in the ceramic plate. The large man then pulled out a data stick, a few tools, and a circuit board from various pockets and placed those in the plate. He then up-ended the second plate and placed it on top of the other, making a sort of box out them with the electronics enclosed inside.

"That cybernetic of mine is most likely.....It's a problem. I forgot to deal with it before I came here." He said, moving the plates more towards the center of the table. He then pulled out a paperclip and straightened it out; then bending it into arc. He reached reached over and shorted the newly created device affixed to the cybernetic which was next to the wall.

The thing started making a high pitched trill, followed by extensive electrical arching over the prosthetic. There were a few sparks, and the smell of ozone.

Stryker opened the plates "A small EMP device." He said to Locke, and handed back the PDA to his drinking partner. The thing was in working order. He pocketed his stuff, except the circuit board.

"Ya, your right. Heading off to the administration capitol of the Federation, not smart. I wasn't thinking. No excuse for that." He replied as he pulled the fried cybernetic back to himself. He yanked out a slightly smoking board, and placed it on the table, and replaced it with the one that was kept safe in the plate.

Arriving at the bar a couple of steps behind her 'would be captor', Lilith instructed 'Micah' to sit in one of the empty booths.

"What do you drink?" She asked him sternly, "Bare in mind, you can leave or stay. Either way suits me fine, but I know who I'm looking for now and rest assured, you won't sneak up on me a second time. Secondly, there are several familiar faces to me here, so you may decide if it's wise to try anything here."

The last part was a lie, but she hoped to be convincing enough 'Micah' would believe her.
