General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Yeah. So we're both in agreement that Glaboski comes off as sketchy as hell. I know you won't give me the data he's after, so that's off the table. For good reason, clearly." He set the canister down and retrieved his slate, setting it down on the table between them, pulling up a camera feed. "Blood, you have anything for me on the good doctor?"

"I do," came Bloodfeather's reply, audible over the slate's speaker. "I see you're not dead so that must be a good sign."

Isaiah looked up at Lilith and shrugged. "Lilith, meet Bloodfeather. Blood, meet Lilith. You two would get along well."

"Would you believe it if I told you he was getting onto my case about being reckless?" Bloodfeather's vocoder issued a laugh. "He's so full of shit sometimes."

"As you can see, she's a bit... temperamental."

"I'll blow you out the airlock."

Isaiah sighed and rubbed his temples with his fingers. "Okay, enough of that. Glaboski. Let's hear what you got on him."

"Right. So. Dr. Glaboski. Graduated at the top of his class in medical school. Focused on medical reconstruction and nano-implantation from Harnell University, Synteini. He is Imperial by birth, and still holds land in Synteini. He is an outstanding member of society, contributing well over 15% of his sizable income to charitable funds. He also organizes and runs a number of charitable organizations that help struggling families with high medical costs, and temporary housing when child patients are to be hospitalized for extended periods."

"Heh. Sounds like a real saint, doesn't he? Anything else?"

"He was married to one Susan Turner. There was a divorce by the looks of things - courts ruled in her favor. She claimed he was impossible to live with, and made unrealistic demands, especially in the area of intimate fantasy. Also claimed he was controlling, but she was unable to provide sufficient evidence. They had two children together, Charles and Meagan, ages 19 and 17 respectively."

Isaiah spun the slate around and pushed it across to Lilith for her to inspect the findings herself. "Any of that jive with what you pulled from his files?"
26 Nov 2016, 11:15pm
"Bloodfeather... Your ship has an AI? Ok then, colour me impressed. I heard those were rare." Lilith smiled. "As for him not being dead, let's just say that's not his doing." She added with a small chuckle.

Thinking about the rest of what was said she furrowed her brow.

"I didn't know about any of Glaboskis stuff.... But it does help my data make sense a bit." She thought for a minute before adding, "Any chance of a picture of this ex-wife?"
27 Nov 2016, 2:45am
"She's not really an AI in the sense that she doesn't have agency--"

"As far as you know," Bloodfeather interrupted.

"--but rather she has different components that make up her verbal command interface. I have her tone down on the humor during tasks. She gets very sarcastic and abrasive when that happens."

Bloodfeather listened to Lilith's request, then flashed an image up on the slate. "This was pulled from the records of the court proceedings. Does she seem familiar to you?"
27 Nov 2016, 7:50am
"AI or not, I like her more than I like you already." Lilith chuckled, "But no, I don't know her. However, my next meeting with the good Doctor will be somewhat more interesting now."

She turned to face Isaiah and smiled at him. Actually smiled.

"Ok, you have my interest... What do you have in mind for how to proceed?" She said, "Whatever it is, it needs to keep you in the clear. I wouldn't put it past him to slap a bounty on you too if he thinks you've double crossed him. Naturally, if it finishes with me in his custody, I won't be best pleased..."
27 Nov 2016, 7:59am
Snipes settled in at the bar after regaining his composure. His only course of action now was to prevent the two traitors from leaving the station. What's more fitting, 4 or 5 million each for a bounty on their heads while I wait. He scrolled through Galnet on stock information from his home system and listened to the happenings around him in the bar.
27 Nov 2016, 8:28am
"Don't worry about me. I'm a lot more well-connected than I appear. Glaboski would be barking up more than just a tree if he turned around and came after me. More like a whole forest." Isaiah cleared his throat. "Before I dive into my plan, I'm assuming you took the information he's after for a good reason, correct? You mind telling me what that reason is?"
27 Nov 2016, 1:50pm
"Suit yourself." Lilith responded to his apparent disregard for himself.

She took a moment to pick her words carefully. *Why did I take it actually??? Because it's sick, that's why. And he decided you were an easy mark which is just insulting...*

"Because it affects me personally." She put it bluntly, "I don't like people who wrong me, and I like to make sure they don't do it again. Good enough??"

But now other worries had begun swimming through her mind. *What if it had been more than just make up? What if it was more than pictures? What was it Bloodfeather had said? Unwillingness to cooperate in intimate fantasies? Oh... God...* She began to feel physically sick at the path her thoughts had taken. She wasn't a stranger to men pawing over her, she wasn't stunning, just ordinary, but after several drinks any woman would do, but at least she'd been conscious and in control. This was worse, much worse... How could she tell how far he'd gone?

Forgetting she was supposed to be dealing with a 'would-be-killer/captor' she retreated into the corner of the booth and curled up defensively. The contents of her stomach threatening to make a return.
27 Nov 2016, 4:54pm
Cartlidge and Ten quietly enter the bar, hoping not to draw any attention from the other patrons. The one eye'd bounty hunter wore his usual outfit: his favorite jacket over a plain T-shirt, and cargo pants filled with the various tools and weapons he liked to carry.

Ten wore a pair of loose fitting pants and a hooded sweatshirt to cover the flight suit she always wore. The combination worked well to cover up the majority of her medical scars, with the exception of the ring of scars at the base of her neck, and her prosthetic right arm, which now carried a datapad that drew the majority of her focus. Her bright red hair was parted to one side at the moment, and her glowing green eyes only looked away from the datapad to keep her from running into things.

The pair sat down at a deserted booth in one of the corners of the room without so much as a word to anyone else. Once they were seated, Cartlidge started fishing for something in one of his pockets.
27 Nov 2016, 5:16pm
Looking up from her state she observed the man and woman entering and instantly recognised them.

*Oh you are shitting me...* She thought to herself, wanting to go straight after them but certainly not feeling up to it in the slightest given that she was still fighting to keep her stomach in check. Instead she pushed herself further back into the booth in an effort to remain hidden from them as she fought to regain her composure.
27 Nov 2016, 7:38pm
Man, what did Glaboski do to you...?

Isaiah was quiet for a moment as he studied Lilith, his brow furrowed. There was far more going on than a mere "incident" that Glaboski had described.

"Hey, look at me for a second," he said quietly, inclining his head towards her. He could see the fear and sudden uncertainty in her eyes. "I don't know what happened that put you in Glaboski's charge, but it's pretty clear that you're not telling me everything that happened. That's fine. I don't need to know what I don't need to know - but if I'm going to help you, I need to have a damn good reason - because so long as we're both on this station, we're at risk."
27 Nov 2016, 9:29pm
Lilith sat in silence for a moment, slowing her breathing and trying to calm her sudden anxiety. She was aware that Isaiah was speaking to her but didn't want to open her mouth until she'd calmed down. It took a moment but eventually her nerves settled.

Looking over at Isaiah, she blushed bright red. All that work putting on a hardened act, she'd just undone by turning into a scared little girl at the mere implication of.... Well... It didn't bare thinking about. She had no proof anything more had happened, and surely he wouldn't be so arrogant as to put up pictures after the fact. No... She was clear...

"It's a long story.... But put simply I was taken to the Medical Ward to treat a gunshot wound, smoke inhalation and this," She pulled her glove off to reveal the scarred hand, "Funnily enough caused by the two that just walked in..."

Pulling her glove back on, she took a slow breath.

"He was my surgeon. Fixed me up pretty good. Whether by chance or whether he pulled strings to make it that way I don't know. Either way, it's hard to explain what he's doing without showing you." She said calmly, "If I told you it affects more than just me... That there are others who he's got his claws into... Would that be good enough for you?"

Pausing for a moment she wondered if that really would be good enough. It wasn't much to go on at all and he was likely to be risking his life. Plus, he'd now seen her in a very vulnerable moment so there were two choices. Kill him and pretend it didn't happen, or utilise him to exact punishment on Glaboski.

"Tell you what... If you help me... I will do one of two things for you." She picked her words carefully, "I'll pay you the 200K he offered, so you don't lose out on anything, OR, I can show you what a scumbag he is."
27 Nov 2016, 11:18pm
As Ten got to work trying to remotely access the station's systems, Cartlidge took the time to observe the other patrons. Only a few of the patrons were actually at the bar itself, and of them he didn't really recognize any. He could only properly see one other occupied booth, currently used by a bearded man and woman. The other occupied booth was out of his gaze, and it would be difficult to look in that direction without drawing attention. Something seemed odd about the woman in the other booth, however. She looked familiar to Cartlidge, though he could not place why.

He finally produced the object he was searching for in his pocket: a small silver marble. Subtly he dropped it on the floor for a moment and pulled out his own datapad. "Any progress?"

"No, I'm having trouble with some interference, like someone had sent off an EMP earlier... or something," Ten replied without bothering to look up.
27 Nov 2016, 11:29pm
"Money's not a problem. In fact, if this guy is up to something nefarious, it'd be a little poetic to give you that up-front payment as a parting gift, wouldn't it?" He was serious about it. Money hadn't been an issue for him in months thanks to his "day job." It allowed him a certain amount of freedom to do things that actually meant something to him. This ordeal in particular seemed to be right up his alley.

"I might seem like a... what was it you called me? Common destitute?" The corners of his mouth turned into a smirk. "Not how I would describe myself. But that's not the point."

He tapped the drone again. "You want to take him down? Then we do our due diligence before we spring a trap on him. But we do this by the book. No cutting corners, no unnecessary risks. There's no telling what he'll do if he finds out we're both working together."
28 Nov 2016, 12:02am
"It might surprise you to know, I'm not in the habit of taking unnecessary risks. The evidence being that I'm still here." Lilith retorted, "That said... I'm making it clear now. You get the info after we get him off my... our, backs."

She sat drumming her fingers on the table, while she thought.

"What do you have in mind then?" She finished with a sigh, straightening up but making sure her face was hidden from the man and woman she recognised from earlier.
28 Nov 2016, 12:24am
"Bloodfeather tried to find Glaboski's terminal on the station's network, but wasn't able to. She suspects it's isolated, perhaps behind deeper layers of security or the station's infrastructure. Now, I don't know how much information you pulled from him, but if you're trying to build a case against him, I'd like to be thorough and make sure we get it all."

Bloodfeather piped in from the slate on the table: "Even if there's nothing new to be gleaned, I could use access to his terminal to monitor him and ensure that I can warn you if he's up to something."

"Now, here's where this comes in handy," Isaiah said, holding up the drone. "Bloodfeather could use the drone as a proxy to interface with the local network in Glaboski's office - assuming he doesn't have industrial-grade countermeasures in place. If he does, we'd have to do this the hard way."

Isaiah stopped, noticing Lilith's lingering discomfort, the way her eyes fixed on something beyond him. He turned his head slowly, just enough to look out of the corner of his eye at the surrounding patrons, then back to her.

"What is it?" he asked. "You see something?"
