General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

...my eyes darted to the side as I heard a loud female voice. Seeing her raising her drink, I put my right palm on my chest and nodded in a sign of gratitude.
25 Dec 2022, 4:54pm
“Without a doubt Mrs Muir” said Creamy with some conviction. “It was different when it was a few systems on the rim, or Nebula far away. People could ignore the problem because it wasn’t affecting them. Now, its bloody everywhere”

He stood straight and placed his hands on the bar.

“I’m glad you found your place, Mrs Muir. You always seemed a little lost and somewhat angry too. It’s amazing how direction and duty can help you feel like you belong, and channel ya energies, what?”

Creamy recalled his recent verbal lashing from Venus. Yes, when he was done talking with Meowers, he was definitely going to introduce them to each other. They gave Creamy a similar vibe. He noticed Meowers checking out the promotion.

XxD3M0N3SSxX"Put her drinks on my tab."

Creamy smiled to him self and let out a small chuckle. "She's still on the free drinks and the Challenge to go Venus, but I'll keep a tab, thank you" he called over to the fellow Imperial.

“I see you’ve picked up a new habit” said Creamy, sniffing the tobacco on Meowers uniform. “Do you still drink? Perhaps I can try to make you a personalised cocktail? Maybe something inspired by the Marshmallow? asked Creamy with quizzically raised eyebrows.

“I take it ya still flying that reliable old boat?”
25 Dec 2022, 5:28pm
"It is utterly important for me to see that, what I do, has a meaning. I can't say it's the ultimate answer to all of my questions, but... It helps me greatly. And, devoting myself to the good cause... Makes some stuff more quiet. Ah, that's a long story."

I caught myself slowly moving my hand to get a cigarette out of the pack in the chest pocket. Then, I heard Creamy's words about the habit.

"A new habit?.. Uh. Not as new as you might think. Smoking since I was 17. Just... Trying not to do that around non-smokers and when in public places. But, I think, smoking in the bar is... Common."

"And, the Thargoids... Yeah...", I said, heavily, after a long sigh, with my eyes down. "For most of the space pilots, Thargoids were something that was happening too far away to be bothered about it. We had Aegis to do all the brain stuff, and combat pilots out on the borders, on the other side of the buffer zones, to keep the beasts at bay... And, hah, for many of those planeside folks, Thargoids were just a show. I doubt they even thought they're real. But now... They will learn. The hard way, sadly."

"Marshmallow... Saved my life more than once. Especially that last thing, which sent us both in for some extensive repairs."

Speaking of repairs, I was positively surprised. Talking for that long wasn't so difficult for me anymore, and my usual calm tone returned to me, I didn't need to make long pauses or force my voice to be louder than I wanted.

"And, no. Alcohol isn't my friend anymore. Dangerous for me... In many ways. So, let it be just a big cup of coffee."
25 Dec 2022, 6:09pm
“Fair enough Mrs Muir; the coffee is free even with a twist of this and sprinkle of that; and your tab is covered any way.”

Creamy put a fresh pot on for Meowers, and talked to her over his shoulder while he worked.

“Good to hear ya still with Marshmallow, I change my ships almost as often as my shoes” that was a lie, Creamy changed everything he wore by the hour sometimes, but it got the point across. “Still, it warms my heart to see such a change in you Mrs Muir, and I, for one, am very glad you and Marshmallow are holding a shield between us and them”

He was feeling like he was in the way now, so it was time to casually mention an idea.

“I’m surprised I didn’t notice you were a smoker before, I have an amazing sense of smell, after all. Maybe that’s why I always enjoyed your scent; because it was the shadow of something I avoided so much.”

“Well, if ya fancy a smoke, Venus there..” Said Creamy, nodding towards the Duchess and catching her eye “..has found a good spot that carries the cloud away from my sensitive senses, and I’m sure she’d gladly give you a light. She flies evacuations that you provide cover for don’ch know? Small galaxy what? ”

While they were getting acquainted, Creamy would try to come up with an alcohol-free cocktail for Meowers.
25 Dec 2022, 6:37pm
I raised my eyebrow slowly, listening to Creamy.

"Shadow of something? Something you avoided? Connected to a... scent? Hmmm. Well, that sounds interesting. It's always been obvious to me that... There's something beyond that façade of yours. But, both times we met in the past, weren't... Exactly comfortable for any conversations."

"...and both of them, directly or not, led to me ending up in a hospital. So classic", I added, after a sarcastic chuckle.
25 Dec 2022, 7:05pm
"I'm hardly going to say to a woman 'I like the way you smell' when I'm not talking about her perfume. That's as creepy as it gets, don'ch know? And any way, you'd have gone for ya gun if I did" said Creamy with a big grin and light laugh braking his words.

"And look here, I know I'm drop-dead gorgeous, but you are one of the few that actually tried to drop dead" a statement clearly underplaying the danger they had faced together, but with the same playful intent.

"Now, put that coffin-nail in ya lips and go make friends. I'm trying to think of a non-alcoholic cocktail for you, Mrs Muir"
25 Dec 2022, 7:33pm
Creamy Goodness III“Well, if ya fancy a smoke, Venus there..” Said Creamy, nodding towards the Duchess and catching her eye “..has found a good spot that carries the cloud away from my sensitive senses, and I’m sure she’d gladly give you a light. She flies evacuations that you provide cover for don’ch know? Small galaxy what? ”

Venus motions to a seat at the table she is sat at.

Meowers"...and both of them, directly or not, led to me ending up in a hospital. So classic", I added, after a sarcastic chuckle.

Upon hearing this Venus thinks back on what Creamy had mentioned previously. Amorous adventures through the court. Clearly his "adventures" posed to be challenging.

"Hmmm sounds to me like that one might be trouble." Venus says pointing at Creamy "......and from what information I have gathered....... seems like this may very well be a trend for him."

Venus looks back to the man now fully engrossed with Creamy.

"You sound like you have some interesting information about our friend here." Pointing at Aleks.

Venus thought she mat be able to gather more information about the man serving them drinks which in her eyes is great. Any information she can gather that can be used against him may be useful for her in the future. She had to be careful though it seems this man may be more dangerous than she had initially thought.

Venus takes a long drag and and a sip from her drink. As she sets her glass down she begins to think that something isn't right about the situation here. She quickly looks at her escape path wondering if she could manage to make it to her ship should things go south

"Ah, hello. Thanks for your gesture of generosity, but, yep, alcohol isn't on my favourite list anymore", I said, taking a seat near that Imperial woman. Wearing an armour in the bar? Must've been in a kind of haste or distress or whatever...

"Nothing to exaggerate here, actually", I lit a cigarette, one of those local vanilla-flavoured treats, and let a first puff of smoke to the side. "We met when some kind of terrorists kidnapped him. Heard it's a common practice in the Empire, to kidnap somebody younger and then milk their parents, demanding a ransom. And, the hospital part? I've also rescued another person, she was kept there as a slave. Helped her to adjust to the normal life. Hospital included. Mental, though."

"And the second part was a bit weird. He was hunting some kind of alien stuff left in his old abandoned ship. Some kind of inheritance... Can't recall exactly. And, hah, I took a contract to kill him. Although I didn't know it was him, until we met. But all that was a trap, whoever wanted him dead knew about my anarchist past, saw my combat record, and thought I'd be glad to go after some Imperial figure for a heckload of money. It was shortly before I joined AXDF. So, I was badly wounded in a fight, barely made it back alive."

I was enjoying my smoke and waiting for the coffee, telling all those stories from our past to an absolute stranger. Hah. I couldn't say the stories were particularly bright or positive... However, I caught myself talking about that like it was some kind of 'walk in the park'. And... I don't think telling all that could pose any risk to me.

"So, all his 'amorous adventures' or whatever he calls it, happened long before we met. We don't have that kind of past. And I don't know much about them anyway."
25 Dec 2022, 9:17pm
As the woman took a seat I notice the glance at my apparel and let out a boisterous laugh.

"Hahaha I suppose in my haste I seem to have left my armor on. You see I too just came back from the front lines. I have been mostly working on the Hadad fronts evacuating civilians. I had taken severe damage to my ship, an Imperial Cutter named Ripjaw."

I take a long drag of my cigarette the scent of chocolate and mint wafting from the smoke.

"I wasn't exactly in my right mind when I landed. Please excuse me for a moment I shall return shortly. I believe I am due to change out of my armor."

I stand gathering my cigarettes and in my rush leave behind my silver zippo while only stopping briefly at the door to say

"Creamy don't go getting yourself killed while I'm gone, and leave my tab open. I am going to change into something more.... comfortable."

"Creamy don't go getting yourself killed while I'm gone, and leave my tab open. I am going to change into something more.... comfortable."

That earned Venus a salute. Creamy had been staying out of the girl's way while they were talking; he didn't want to play fifth wheel, and interrupt their chat. They seemed to be getting on alright, and Meowers was even more sociable than the time she had suggested a pizza party. She had changed a lot over the year, or about that, since they had last talked.

"I always like hearing that sentence from a pretty girl" said Creamy, winking at Meowers and topping off her coffee before wandering back over to the man engrossed in his pad.

I return to my ship and change into a dark gray formal imperial suit. The shirt is low cut accented with a very intricate gold pattern around my bust. The neckline is covered in tanzanite stones. Around my neck I am wearing a platinum necklace with perfect quality tanzanite stones. On top I am wearing a black bolero jacket with gold accents on the wrists and shoulders. I have matching dark gray tailored pants. My boots are black knee highs, straps and gold buckles run down the outsides of each one. In my ears I place platinum earrings with tanzanite stones.

I take a look at my appearance in the mirror in my quarters and nod. The look is very similar to Arissa Lavigny-Duval though more provocative.

I grab my pistol belt with thigh holster and put it on. I check my TK zenith out and place it on the magnetic holster I jostle around to ensure secure fitment.

I return to the bar in my extravagant imperial garb. A wave at Creamy taking a seat next to the woman he had called Mrs. Muir.

"So where were we?"

"Ow", I noticed a... rather radical change in the woman's appearance.

"Thought you won't come back. You looked quite... worried. If not to say anxious. And, you left your lighter", I nodded towards the shiny metal piece. "No worries, had it secured from... Uh. Any kinds of Thargoid invasions in this bar."

"So, that was the short rundown of mine & Creamy's misadventures. And that man with the datapad... I have no idea", I shrugged and looked at the bar. Looks like my coffee was almost ready. I remember visiting this place a bit earlier, and, the coffee here has been... Good enough. Exactly as I like. Tasty, fresh, miles away from the utilitarian brown liquid I've had in the Pleiades, though totally not a pompous-elitist crap that could get you publicly shamed for making too loud gulps or taking the cup without protruding your little finger.

I look at the table reach into my pouch containing my cigarettes and mints and notice the empty slot.

"Oh so it seems I left it behind. Thank you. Not many honorable people left out there."

I grab my cigarettes out and light one. Placing the box and light back into my pouch afterwards.

"So you had taken a bounty on Lord Goodness...." I say in a mocking sort of tone chuckling slightly.. ".....and your benefactor had pulled the wool over your eyes. If I didn't know ant better I'd say it was a shot at a double hit in which they would claim the bounty on you both. Sounds like something I would do." I say in a proud manor.

"I am nervous. That man at the bar...... he hasn't said anything other than to order his drink. The moment he saw our mutual friend behind the counter he fixated on him." I tell Mrs Muir informing her of the reasoning for my behavior.
26 Dec 2022, 1:26am
"Sure, no worries. I'll go get my coffee."

Quickly, I went to the bar to grab my drink. The mug was warm and quite large, just like I wanted, I nodded to Creamy and smiled, feeling the fresh aroma of my favourite vanilla and cinnamon mix. Returning to the table, I sat on the seat, took a mug with both hands and raised it, bringing it up to my face.

"Mmmmm... Awesome", I blinked slowly and made a first sip from the mug. Warmth spread across my body, making me smile softly once again.

"Ah, no, it wasn't a 'bounty on a Lord Goodness'... From my perspective, it was a contract from an independent faction, whom I helped with the Imperial expansion quite a while ago... The whole thing was orchestrated, to make me go there and do damage, and retrieve that thing from an old ship. And the faction has been used as a cover of sorts, to make me sympathise them. So, when I saw him, my 'target', he explained that stuff. There's no way some backwater faction could use, and know about, those trinkets. And I don't like being duped."

Saying all that, I got another cigarette out of my pocket and lit it.

"And... Strange men in bars. Quite a common view. People are always strange... Especially these days. With all that Thargoid stuff around."
26 Dec 2022, 5:48am
"Ha I suppose you are correct. I s'pose I can be a little up tight." I say grabbing my drink to take a sip, pausing for a moment as I remember I darted off leaving it fully unattended.

"If this be poisoned, let it be quick."

"So this artifact I take it that he was hauling some form of thargoid construct or was it guardian? The thargoid stuff if nasty had one eat through my hull once."

I pause for a moment. I look at this woman drinking her cup of coffee and holding it with both hands a small smile forming as I think back to a moment I had with my wife.
