General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Precentor Martial Vandal Stormovik walks into the bar and casually posts an open proposal on the bulletin board. It reads:

On the Unification of the Far God Worshipers

We wish to open negotiations regarding the following proposal:

“Our numbers are few, and we cannot hope to make a difference if we remain divided now that the Apocalypse is upon us.” - Protector Timothy Dalin 16 DEC 3308

Note - This document is meant as a final attempt to gather all the Far God worshipping factions and CMDRs into a single force that can effect change on a galactic scale and hasten the Apocalypse.

What This is Not

This is not a power grab by the Pleiades Concordat.

This is not a dictate on how to worship / revere / support the Thargoids.

This is not a request to be more active in the Elite universe.

Background

6 years ago, In 07 Dec 3302 the Pleiades Concordat faction stepped into the spotlight when its leader began writing Galnet articles for Frontier relating to a faith that worshiped the Thargoids and were welcoming the apocalypse to come with their arrival. (At the time, Frontier was starting to allow “Player Minor Factions” to be created, and part of the requirement was to develop a storyline to make it fit into the wider story of Elite Dangerous. Frontier accepted the backstory of the Pleiades Concordat, and the faction was created.)

2 years later, on 16 June 3304, Frontier decided to run with the storyline we had created, and it became the Far God story we all now know. It was identical to the backstory we wrote, and they added a name for our deity, the Far God.

Since that storyline started, a significant number of CMDRs decided to join this side of the fight, many creating other factions or groups through Inara. It has been fleshed out over the past 4 years and now is a prominent storyline for the game. This has led to a grass-roots development of this identity we now own, Far God Worshipers, but it is divided and only exists as tiny pockets of resistance.

Assumptions

The Far God worshipers of this galaxy need to be unified to affect any change, and our scattered members only serve to make our efforts futile.

All of us are fighting to make a difference, and struggle to keep our faction members active and effective in the face of other human factions.

This needs to change or we as Far God Worshipers will remain irrelevant.

Proposal

As the original Far God faction, the Pleiades Concordat wishes to propose a merging of all Far God worshiping factions under their single Inara Faction. This would look like the following:

Far God worshiping Inara factions that are not represented as a Player Minor Faction within Frontier would move their membership over to the Pleiades Concordat. Their leadership would become top-tier leaders in the Pleiades Concordat faction, continuing their efforts as they have but under a unified faction, and coordinated with all the other CMDRs in the Pleiades Concordat.

Far God worshiping factions that are active and that do have Player Minor Factions associated with them would keep those Frontier factions (we know it cost money for you to make them), but would merge with the Pleiades Concordat within Inara. It would mean that the Pleiades Concordat would be an Inara Faction, but that its sub-components would divide into their respective Player Minor Factions for Frontier. Leaders of these factions will have top tier positions in the Pleiades Concordat, representing their investment in their Player Minor Factions, and utilize the Inara faction to coordinate and cooperate together. If a Far God worshiping faction that has a Player Minor Faction is willing to merge it totally with the Pleiades Concordat, we would encourage it to do so, however. Joining them together is something we could propose to Frontier once we know what our demographic looks like.

Leadership from each faction merging with the Pleiades Concordat will be strongly represented within the Pleiades Concordat, and would each represent an aspect of the whole. The top position within the Pleiades Concordat is the Precentor Martial and it is held by CMDR Vandal Stormovik, and this would remain the case. Top leaders from each faction would take up the rank of Precentor within the Concordat, with all the like privileges and authorities. Vandal governs the faction with a very collaborative type of leadership, and does not make decisions unilaterally (just ask our members!).

There will be no mandatory support to a particular Major Faction or Power.

The executive of the Pleiades Concordat (including all of the new leadership the Concordat inherits from our many factions) will work on and approve all the governance regulations for our faction, with the Precentor Martial retaining a veto to ensure it is created in the spirit of the Role Playing we are all apart of in-game.

Recruiting and missions will be centralized within one effort.

This effort to consolidate our efforts to support the Thargoids and worship the Far God had been piloted by the merger of the Pleiades Concordat and HALT factions a few years ago. It is time to make this a galactic effort.

Timeframe

If this is going to have any lasting effect, we need to complete the unification by 1 Jan 3309, though we will still make efforts to unify with other factions as they crop up or decide to join.

Time is of the essence if we are to make an impact on the current Thargoid invasion.

Who is Vandal Stormovik (ooc Steve White)

Vandal is a Player who has been committed to this story since the original game came out in the 1980s. He is a published writer, and is very familiar with law, the military, and administration as a retired officer in the Canadian military. He loves writing lore, creating videos within the role-play, and owns a game store in New Brunswick running everything from Bolt Action, to Warhammer 40k, to D&D and Pathfinder.

Vandal has also led other factions, clans, etc. on various video games such as World of Tanks (Royal Canadian Dragoons), and Elite Dangerous. He has nearly two decades of experience in this field of work.

How to Accept / Reject this Proposal

Contact CMDR Vandal Stormovik through Inara and let us know by asking for an initial coalition with the intent of further merger processes.

Wrong... wrong channel man.

The white cloth dropped away from a cocktail shaker that gleamed in the light as the bar tender held it up and inspected his industrious polishing. Carefully, he put it on the rack with the others, dropped the cloth in the wash bin and turned to check his bowtie was still straight. A slight adjustment of the perfectly fitted shirt collar around his think, pleasingly tanned neck made everything ready.

The bar was empty. A few long-range pilots nursed their drinks and ate solid food, happy to have something that wasn't in danger of floating off any time soon, but business had been bad for a while. Almost no one was coming in, and the Galactic Bar, famous around the bubble, needed to shake its ghost town reputation.

It was time; Creamy pressed the Continue button on the bar computer and the advising campaign holos were sent all around the Bubble. He looked at the well designed animated graphic that would start playing on the projectors outside and inside thousands of stations.

Maybe the "First drink is FREE!" and "50% off everything for Anti-Xeno and evacuation teams" offers would bring them in, but Creamy hoped that more people would turn up for the Cocktail Challenge. The mixologist was tasked with matching a person to their perfect cocktail, if they got it wrong and the customer didn't enjoy their drink, it was on the house. If the guest enjoyed the houses choice, then a flat fee of twenty creds would be charged.

Creamy was eager to find out if he was as good at guessing a customers taste as he was at mixing drinks.

A disheveled and honestly quite battered brown haired imperial woman approaches the bar. As she advances a slight limp can be noticed and a scar across her throat is visible. She is wearing a dominator suit with an Imperial crest on her left shoulder.

"I've been through hell these last few days and could use a drink. Take a crack and lets see if you can get it right." I say wincing as I sit, motioning to the advert holo on the bar.

I turn around and scan the bar seemingly looking for someone.

"I've been through hell these last few days and could use a drink. Take a crack and lets see if you can get it right." I say wincing as I sit, motioning to the advert holo on the bar.

“Ah a fellow Imperial, welcome to the galactic miss. Lord Goodness of Cubeo Threes northern territories at your service” Said Creamy with a warm smile. “Entirely my honour to greet another defender of her Imperial Highness”

Creamy finished his greeting with a formal bow anyone familiar with Imperial etiquette would recognise.

“I do hope you find our humble star port a comfortable place to regain your vigour. Can I interest you in your free drink before I endeavour to prepare a fitting cocktail for you, miss.. ?”
22 Dec 2022, 11:28pm
"You needn't be so formal. I am merely a weary evac pilot on a layover." Venus says, acknowledging the gesture. "...... and I'll take a Cubeo Gold please."

I turn around and look over the bar once more. Not finding who I am looking for.

"Since we are introducing ourselves. I am Dutchess Venus Duval, no I am not related to the royal family. Pleased to meet you." Venus dips her head in a manor known to be acceptable from a seating position in the Empire.

"So... what's the game?"
23 Dec 2022, 12:19am
“Duchess indeed? Not often one meets someone that out ranks m’dad, well, mother really” His eyes went to the celling while he remembered momentarily, his home life “Dads the name, she’s the one that uses it” said Creamy poring the requested libation.

“Well, this is a bit awkward” he said placing a small glass in front of Venus, “I had a mix in mind, but now it’ll look like I took inspiration from your order" He was looking into his guests’ eyes; Creamy seldom let his attention wonder from female company.

“Or perhaps I planted the idea there by mention my home to make my job easer“ he intoned with a conspiratorial rising of the eyebrows “but, now your grace, we will never know for sure. Still, I always follow my instincts, so I won’t change my mind”

He fetched a few bottles down and started the show, flicking them in to the air and catching them just in time to add a shot of this and that to a shaker.

“The game, your grace, is get some life back into the Galactic Bar & grill, and do our small part to bolster our patrons spirits” he said, apparently paying no attention to what he was doing, yet always managing to hit his mark.

“My game, as it happens, is much the same as yours. I recently got back from a few evac runs where the indigenous underworld was taking an unkind advantage of the local population, so I may understand your pain”

The lid went on the shaker and it was sent spinning in to the air where it hung for a long while thanks to the low gravity giving Creamy plenty of time to prepare a tall glass with a sherbet rim and crushed ice.

“I won’t keep you as you seem to be expecting company your grace, but I do hope you find this drink worth the wait”

His friendly smile wordlessly said Venus could take all the time she wanted, and there were still a few steps to go before her custom cocktail would be ready.

"The drink I chose is just something to take the edge off the pain. My last evac mission had me in thargoid territory and did not go quite as planned." Venus said taking a small sip of her drink. Keeping a careful eye on the items going into the mysterious concoction.

"As for the formalities and titles, you needn't bother yourself with such trivial things. Please just call me Venus."

Venus datapad notifies of an new message. A look of disappointment appears on her face, followed closely by a look of acceptance.

"Well good sire it would appear that your luck may have just take a turn for the better. The ship techs just told me it'd be another long while before my ship is fit for service."

She takes another sip of her drink, takes a long slow breath and continues watching as her drink is prepared trying to determine its result.
23 Dec 2022, 9:21am
“Thank you, Venus, and may I say never has that name had a more fitting host”

He poured the contents of the shaker into the glass. A vibrant blue liquid slowly separated from the ice, becoming crystal clear at the bottom, fading to deep blue at the top.

“While it’s a shame your grey cloud is my silver lining, at least you will have more time to recover. Every hero needs to hang her cape up now and then, don’ch know?”

Creamy fetched a small squeeze-bottle from under the bar and started to furiously stir the drink. As he did, he squeezed a thin line of syrup into the middle of the glass, where it formed an island. His eyes were now focused on the syrup swirl he was building; the cool drink made the warm honey set quickly, so he only had one chance to get it right.

“Hmm” he sounded with a smile of satisfaction and put the little golden bottle back in its place.

The mixing spoon then shielded the honey island from a cream liqueur that sat on top of the blue without swamping his honey construction.

“There he said, pushing the tall glass towards Venus. Just one more touch..” The little well on the island cupped a small pour of Cubeo Gold, and then Creamy stood back to admire his creation and its lovely recipient. “..and it's finished”

“It’s pretty much a Blue Lagoon with a honey Sun Spot, but I added a top of a toffee-coffee tasting cream to off-set the alcoholic tang of the Lagoon. The cream will dominate your mouth, but the lagoon will cleanse your pallet, leaving you with a pleasant aftertaste of both”

He leaned an elbow on the bar and carried on with his explanation of the mix.

“The honey on the other hand, is from my family hives back home. Perhaps you know Count Goodness? M’dad? Bit of a famous bee breeder, don’ch know? Anyway, this honey has a natural .. .whats-a-ma-jig.. Ibuprofen effect. All the benefits, none of the side effects' coz it was filtered through the bees”

“Got a couple of names in mind for that mix, but I need to know if you like it first” said Creamy with a confident smile.
23 Dec 2022, 11:56am
Venus looks at the drink then back up to creamy. "A blue lagoon. Interesting choice, but might I ask why the honey exactly?"

Venus grabs the drink gracefully and takes a sip her eyes lighting up as if it's the first time she has ever had this particular cocktail.

"This is delightful. I've never had one before. I can see why my wife loves this drink......" Venus voice hangs up once she realizes what she has said. Her eyes quickly darting up to meet Creamys unsure of how he would respond to the words.

"Count Goodness you say?" Venus asks hastily trying to pull attention away from her last comment. "I can't say I have heard of your lineage. I'm not from Cubeo I'm actually from Amenta."

Venus takes another sip and transfers 20cr for the tab and 2000cr as a tip for the theatrics. She seems to be trying to do anything to cover up what she said.

"The honey? a pain killer m'dear. I saw you wincing, and you mentioned your discomfort, so I endeavoured to lend a little aid. It doesn't harm that the aid was sweet, what?"

Creamy added the generous tip to the AX workers fund, and put away all the bottles he had used, putting the mixer in the wash.

"First person to take the challenge, and I hit the mark. Nice to be at one hundred percent what?"

Creamy was pleased his first customer enjoyed her custom drink.

"Just the name left as it's not strictly a Lagoon. I was thinking Royal Blue, or Venus Blue-Jeans after you. Perhaps we can ask you wife if that's who are waiting for?"

A thought came to Creamy.

"Ha! Double dutchess. Like the skipping thing, what?"
23 Dec 2022, 3:13pm
"No, actually I was waiting on a ship tech, but it appears they decided not to interact face to face and sent out a message instead." Venus stated. A slight sigh could be heard.

"My wife is somewhere out in the Norma arm, hunting for fungus. Better she stay out there than around the bubble, with the impending doom of Thargoid attack at any moment."

Venus looked at the honey and wondered if what this man was saying could hold any bit of truth. She shrugged off the thought and sat staring at the empty room a few random pilots and passengers around. She asked very inquisitively

"So you gonna be the new bar keep? Place could do with some liveliness. It's been relatively quite around here for a while."

Venus picks up her drink, stands, and heads over to the entry to the bar. She places her drink on a small table and pulls a small rectangular box from one of the pouches on her belt. Venus takes out a cigarette and her zippo with the royal family Duvals family crest engraved on the front. She lights her cigarette and leans her shoulder against the doorframe looking out towards the docks.

"What a crazy time for humanity. Care for a smoke?" Venus asks holding the box over her shoulder for Creamy to see
23 Dec 2022, 3:38pm
"No thank you. I'm a licenced sommelier on three planets back home, and I work hard to protect my olfactory facilities" answered Creamy adjusting his hair before sauntering over to the end of the bar closest to the door.

"This is a part time gig for me. I'm a liner pilot by trade; emergency evacuation ships captain by necessity. My real passion is singing, and I play most any instrument you care to mention"

"I'm here right now to take a brake from the hot chaos and put my hosting talents, hopefully to good use spreading a little cheer in, as you succinctly put it, crazy times"

It was always hard to be apart for some one you loved, even if it was for the best. If it wasn't for Venus, the bar would only be hosting a few loners nursing a drink before moving on to their next stop, but Creamy was happy playing to a crowd of one if he thought his performance would stir their emotions.

"I say, I'm not dew to preform for a few hours yet, but we are hardly experiencing a rush. If there is a song you would like to hear I would be pleased to sing it for you. I have an extensive repertoire and an impressive vocal range. Simply ask, and I will deliver"
23 Dec 2022, 4:04pm
"Very well then." Venus places the zippo and box on the small table next to her drink.

"I am currently a freelancer travelling to whatever system is in need of the most help." She takes a long drag of her cigarette and exhales

"Up until recently I spent the majority of my time out amongst the stars. Exploring anomalies and exploring ancient sites." Venus stares off remembering the adventures she had been on.

"Just before Salvation launched the attack thought to end the Thargoids, I was out in Colonia helping an old friend get his new business up and running."

"Then the unthinkable happened. Everything went wrong and my only thought was if Silvia was safe. She is all I have left after those damned Hudson boys killed my parents whilst they were away visiting family in Sol. Their ship was harboring fugitives of the federation and they shot her down ensuring no one was left alive." A few tears welling up in her eyes as the memory of her parents death flows through her mind.

Venus wipes away the tears, picks up her drink and takes a large sip, followed by another long drag from her cigarette

"That's the only reason I hold the title Duchess of Amenta A 6s Southern territory."

Creamy was caught off guard for a moment. None of that was a song title, at least not one he knew. The woman had apparently missed his explanation about the special honey he’d topped her drink with, and now she didn’t seem to hear his offer of a song, but Creamy was currently a barman.

A good barman isn’t there to be listened to; he’s there to do the listening, and currently he was listening to a bona fide Duchess of the Empire. In his experience, Duchesses tended to do their own thing most the time, and everyone else had jolly well better keep up.

“Yes, you did strike me as very young to be a Duchess” Said Creamy in a suitably sombre tone.

“I think the rest of the bubble made it clear what they think of the Empire when our stations came under terrorist attack. ‘Good, you deserve it’ seemed to ring out over every non-imperial system. Naturally, the more militant aspects of the other factions used the opportunity to attack us under the banner of Patriotism and Freedom”

“Still you’re here and your lady wife is safe, far away from the political strife and alien menace”

Creamy brightened up a little, hoping to bring Venus out of her morose. It was never a good idea to drink when feeling down.

“It’s like the Emperor said the other day, we possess the most courageous hearts. We shall meet anything that dares to threaten us, human or alien, and we will defeat it”

Creamy paused for a moment, brimming with pride. He served the princess because his family lived in her backyard, but he was the Emperor's man through and through.

“I think she was focused on humanity enduring this latest Thargoid incursion during that speech, and with people like you lending a hand to anyone that needs it, Imperial or not, you’re setting an example to the rest of the bubble. Good show Venus, good show”
