General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"I wonder Good sir which song is your favorite? I would rather like to hear a song that resonates within your heart rather than what pleases myself." Venus said coming back to reality from her drift into memories of the past.

"I wasn't intending to be rude and brush off your request. It's just this moment in time, This particular spot sent me along a journey of memories." she said in a shaky voice.

"So let's hear the song that rings true to you. I am not a particularly picky woman."

"Also did I hear you correctly in that your honey is medicinal? If that is the case you could easily bring this to the Empire and they may bring your rank up." Venus said with a very perky tone now back to her full conscious mind.

"Ha! Father sends me the honey from home, much to mother's annoyance. I'm sort of banished, you see"

"Still, with father being a Brigadier in Her Imperial Majesties armed forces, and mother advising at the Royal palace, I never needed to prove my worth"

"Good thing really" mused Creamy "Thanks to my amorous adventurers around the court, I'd be in a lot of trouble what?"

Venus listens carefully as Creamy explains this, one word hanging on her mind....... Banished.

"What ever have you done to become banished from your family?" Venus questions sternly. She turns to face Creamy for the first time since leaving the bar top. Her posture growing authoritative in nature.

"Amorous adventures through the court?" She asks in a seemingly unnerved mother like tone.

She stops, hearing herself get riled up over his words. Venus closes her eyes, takes a deep breath, and calms herself. Her demeanor softening to a more friendly and relaxed state.

"Seems you have a better connection to your father than most imperials"

There she was, The Duchess. It made Creamy smile, seeing noble pride berating his wylie ways again. It was like being home in a lot of respects, and Creamy didn’t hide his pleasure at being lightly scolded until Venus got a hold of herself.

"Seems you have a better connection to your father than most imperials"

“Not really, you see, he thinks me a soft pansy for preforming on the stage and refusing to kill, but I managed to earn back a bit of respect when l helped recover ejected pilots during the Summerland purge. He was leading his .. . Battalion? .. well, his ground forces any way, and we crossed paths as I’d violated mother’s exclusion zone to be there”

Creamy leaned on the bar to talk with his only customer, and if there was one thing Creamy really enjoyed talking about, it was himself.

“You see, when I was a hot-blooded teen, I rejected my mother’s wishes that I take over running our family’s holding for the crown. I bleated some tat about not wanting to dedicate my life to a fusty old legacy, so she came up with a cunning plan”

Folding his arms and resting them on the bar, Creamy leaned in as if he was about to imparts secret knowledge.

“She said fine fine, do what you want, but if you need to come home, or draw on family resources, then you must return to the manor, take up the title of Count, and live up to your responsibilities”

Creamy stood straight and opened his hands.

“Sounded like a good deal to me, but at the time I wasn’t a pilot. When she said I had a two hundred light year exclusion zone around home, that if I were to cross, it would count as coming back, I said jolly good, I’ll take it. Didn’t realise that pretty much locked me out of Imperial space, don’ch know”

He smiled, shaking his head.

“She is a clever old vixen; probably why she’s an adviser at the palace. Still, that was.. “

“Aislings’ stars!” said Creamy in surprise “Almost ten years ago, and I still haven’t broken my arrangement with mother” finished Creamy proudly. . Then he thought about it.

“Oh, because farther let me off that Summerland transgression”

Aleks enters the bar without looking up from his data pad and takes a seat at one of the stools at the bar. As he laid the data pad on the bar surface, he retrieved an apple out of one of the small pouches attached at his waist and began to eat, a loud crunch with every bite.

He scratched at the rough scarred skin on his right cheek as he continued to read, completely engrossed.

"So you told the only people who had some sort of true care of your future to bugger off?" Venus asked in a very puzzled manor.

"You had the ability to take holdings and land, but because your parents wanted you to carry on their legacy you cut off your own nose to spite them?" Venus seems disgusted by the thought of it.

"If you truly were and imperial and you cared enough about your livelihood you would do well to make contact with your parents. I dont have that honor I didn't get to make the choice to be where I am. You did the least you could do was tell them to meet you in neutral territory."

Venus at this point is angered by creamys lack of ownership.

"An Imperial should know better than to abandon their title. I may have been raised by my families servants but I still took the title as little as I wanted it!" She said in a very stern tone.

As she finishes her sentence she notices the man walk in.

"Well sir goodness, it appears you have a new customer." Venus motions over to the man who just walked in.

Venus grabs creamys arm and places a small holochip in his hand. A blue hologram appears with the likness of Venus with a call sign. XxD3MON3SSxX

"If you ever are in trouble out there send me a message and I'll be there. Us imperials need to stick together." She says in a hushed tone.

Venus grabs a seat and requests another 'Double Duchess'

She was right, one hundred percent. Creamy had walked away from something that was taken from Venus, and he felt bad for taking so casually about what he had left behind.

In the empire, if you were born to the right family, you were born to lead. Whether you were incompetent, or too selfish to shepherd the futures of hundreds of thousands of people, didn’t matter if you had the right family name. Creamy couldn’t even keep a hold of his own fortune, let alone that of the people; he’d been destitute as often as he’d been stupidly rich.

The thought of being responsible for everyone in the Goodness fiefdom, scare Creamy rigid. His father was right, Creamy was too soft to make the hard decisions; he would bankrupt his people with in the first year of his leadership simply by trying to do the right thing.

Having a strip torn off him by a dedicated peer of the realm only enforced Creamys’ ardour for running from his fate. Venus had all the qualities Creamy lacked that make a good leader of the people. The citizens of Amenta Sixes Southern Territory and its holdings were lucky to have her.

He slipped the holo-contact into a pocket and gave a short bow in gratitude. He didn’t enjoy the way Venus had whispered about sticking together, being an Imperial citizen wasn’t something to hide, but he too had been attacked simply for where he was born. A new friend was always welcome, but Venus may regret offering her help to Creamy, he was often in trouble.

As his new patron didn’t seem interested in being served right now, Creamy mixed Venus another Double Duchess with all the flare and care of the first, but used normal honey for the sun spot. He’d given her a health portion of the good stuff first time around. When he brought her drink to the table, he sent his contact to her device.

“Thank you Venus, if you need anything, my staff and I are at your service”

Back at the bar, Creamy took a pad displaying The Galactics’ offers and stood opposite the loudly crunching man and cleared this throat to attract his attention.

“Good day sir. My name is Creamy, welcome to The Galactic Bar and Grill. May I interest you in our promotional offers today?” asked Creamy, politely presenting the holo-pad.
24 Dec 2022, 11:54am
Venus received Creamys contact with a tilt of her head. She began wondering if she had been too harsh on him. Venus wasn't particularly fond of berating fellow imperials regardless of their status still she knew that as an Imperial creamy had a duty to uphold and she hoped that her words sparked some form of sentiment of home and rekindled his imperial pride if not for his family then maybe he would return and do better than his parents hoped.

The thoughts passed as she graciously accepted her drink from creamy. She pulled out her little black box with her cigarettes and her Zippo with the Royal Family crest engraved on it. She lit a cigarette and watched the the interaction between Creamy and this strange man.

She took a closer look at him observing his actions and his facial features. His loud chewing annoyed Venus to no extent. There was something about this man that seemed off. He dressed well enough but it seemed as though this man may be trouble. Venus had a pretty keen eye for troublesome people.

Curious as to what had this man soo captivated that he hadn't even looked up from his data pad, Venus attempted to sneak a look at what he was reading to no avail.

She stood up from her seat at the bar, picking up her items and drink and walked back over to the entry way to the bar this time taking a seat at the small table ensuring she was able to keep an eye on the two. As she sat she realized that the majority of the pain she was experiencing at the time had passed. She hadn't believed Creamy about the special reserve he had given her but it seems as though it was infact capable of numbing the pain.

She pulled her data pad out of its protective pouch on her hip and began reading Galnet news hoping to keep updated on the ongoing Thargoid crisis.

I thought it would be good to show up in that strange bar once again. Had no idea when I would be able to visit this place after I finally leave; recovered and discharged from the hospital, I was waiting for an assignment back to the frontlines. And, with all that Thargoid madness happening around, those 'frontlines' could be a bit closer to the inhabited space than usual. Nothing new, however. Shoot them or they will shoot you.

Yeah, folks around the Bubble certainly started paying attention to what's happening. At least walking to the place wearing the best - and the only bar-party outfit I've had, my uniform with AXDF patches, over a protective flight-suit, I've noticed more people looking at me in... a good way.

But, well, seeing the person behind the bar counter was the most surprising part of the evening.

I sat on the seat at the bar and waited a bit until he finishes his glass-cleaning routines.

"Hello again. And... Since you're the bartender now, could you make a big cup of coffee for me? Vanilla syrup and cinnamon, please."

Creamy Goodness III
“Good day sir. My name is Creamy, welcome to The Galactic Bar and Grill. May I interest you in our promotional offers today?” asked Creamy, politely presenting the holo-pad.

"No, I'll have an Old Sol. Thank you." Aleks said without looking up from his data pad. His voice gravelly, gruff and nearly monotone.

He took another bite of his apple and glanced up at the man serving him causing him to do a double take. The man looked familiar but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

Aleks was openly staring at this point and was aware that it was painfully obvious.

"This may sound odd but I've seen you before. Only thing is, I cannot for the life of me recall where."

This was more compelling than the book of macabre poetry he was reading on his data pad. He turned the screen off and sat his half eaten apple down to put his full attention on Creamy.

“Mrs Muir” Called Creamy with obvious cheer. “One moment, I’ll be right with you”

Turning his attention back to the fruit-cruncher, Creamy did his job and continued serving his customer.

“Yes sir, one Old Sol coming right up” said Creamy fetching a glass, and poring a measure with surprising alacrity “Your first drink is free, Merry Christmas sir”

With a swift motion, Creamy placed the glass in front of his valued patron and swiped the half-eaten apple into the bin. He wasn’t a fan of noisy eating in public. He hoped the man’s attention wasn’t on his snack; he’d hardly looked up from his pad as it was.

Aleks Rez
"This may sound odd but I've seen you before. Only thing is, I cannot for the life of me recall where."

“That is quite possible sir” answered Creamy, not really enjoying the way this chap was looking at him now “I have been a feature on this station in the past”

There was a lot not being said. At one low point, Creamy was a waiter-cleaner in this very bar. He’d been the heavy at a brothel a little way down the concourse, and he was a daily visitor to Mrs. Fillworths Tea and Cake stall in the Pilots Market. For a short time, he was also a fugitive wanted by station security, as well as a target for termination for contract killers. He’d been a busy boy on Citi Gateway.

“Please enjoy your complimentary drink sir, and do consider the Cocktail Challenge. Thank you for visiting The Galactic” said Creamy, placing the info-pad down for Aleks, being as polite as he could while he was eager to reacquaint himself with an old friend.

With a cartoon like action, Creamy seemed to take one impossibly long stride and stop like an arrow fired into a target in front of Meowers.

“I say! What a pleasant bit of fortuity ay? Fancy seeing you here; oh and Merry Christmas” Forgetting himself, Creamys’ gaze lingered on Meowers’ eyes. He was about to order a drink for himself and his friend when he remembered he was the barman.

“Oh, I do apologise, big cup of coffee with vanilla syrup and cinnamon sprinkles wasn’t it?” Creamy had already fetched a large mug from the warm shelf and had set about checking the coffee was fresh.

“It’s been a while old girl. What’ch been up to?” asked Creamy, making it obvious he was looking at the patches on her uniform.

He caught sight of Venus make herself comfortable, and thought perhaps he would make an introduction after he had caught up with his erstwhile rescuer.
25 Dec 2022, 1:35pm
"Yeah, thank you, that will do fine", I nodded in a sign of gratitude. "Something soothing yet with a bit of wake-me-up feature."

"Yup... It's been a while", I turned in the chair a little, placing my elbow on the counter, making the patch on the arm more visible to Creamy. "And latest months were quite... Rough for me. Still sorting out and publishing my log recordings. And... Ended up in a hospital, as usual, hah. However... It seems like that uniform fits me. Not just in a 'something to wear' way, you know."

"And... Last time when I saw you, you were hunting some alien'ish artifacts, and now... You're serving drinks in a bar. Quite a radical change of activity."
25 Dec 2022, 2:41pm
“Oh pish, you know me; always chasing the flavour of the month. Doing this for the owner, don’ch know? Things have been a bit slow round here, and they are running a promotion to try and bring people in”

Creamy stood back and struck a pose. Showing off was so natural to Creamy, he almost always ‘struck a pose’ every time he stopped moving.

“They wanted staff with a bit of flair, that’s why I’m here for now” He said after a fancy flourish, then went back to leaning on the bar opposite Meowers.

“There was a development with the artifice whats-a-ma-jig, but what about you? As I haven’t been kidnapped recently, we’ve had no need to cross paths"

The patch made it clear what Meowers had been doing since they last met, and that's probably what put her in hospital too, but Creamy wanted to talk and hear it from Ina her self.

"What put you in such a sexy uniform?” purred Creamy, making a show of admiring her, knowing full well Meowers wasn’t remotely interested in him. “You’re usually the solo type”

I shrugged and gave a Cocktail Challenge promo a quick glance. Yep, this whole Thargoid mess is going to be a long one, and people should pay attention to keeping their spirits up... The way they like it.

"I'm still the same old 'solo type'... Somewhere deep inside. However, now I know where my efforts are needed. And bear a meaning. And that's... Important for me. On an existential level. Getting used to the routine and discipline has been surprisingly easy. I think, it was all about 'why I should do that'. So... I just left everything behind. Maybe... I've found a place where I belong to. Finally."

"And that was... relieving", I said, turning my head to give the bar another look. "Yeah, I see. Things are going quite slow here, compared to what kind of a place it was during the last few years. But I'm damn sure this bar isn't the exception. Thargoids are moving in, more and more pilots give up their licences to settle down, as it's becoming dangerous out there... Do you believe we're on the verge of a... Change? Of some sorts?"
25 Dec 2022, 4:41pm
Venus briefly looks up from her data pad towards the bar having heard the excitement from Creamy and this other woman who had wandered into the bar.

Seeing the patch on Meowers uniform Venus shouted up to Creamy. "Put her drinks on my tab."

Venus raises her blue drink to the woman at the bar and takes a sip. She finished off her cigarette extinguishing the butt in the ash tray located in the middle of her table. She pulls a mint tin out of one of the pouch she kept her cigarettes in and pops 4 into her mouth.
