General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

I don't profess professionalism.
Don't worry about the apple. We're on the, for you, safe side of the bridge. Plus I already have a crew. *big smile*.

*goes "Boop!" when my horns get touched and continues babbling as if nothing happened*

Questionable?
Probably. Why?

I inspect her after every flight *nods*. I prefer to have her ready, just in case. You know... when fancy guides me elsewhere. She keeps me in working order, I repay the favour in kind.
I think I'd spot something like that. Nope. I think I have a gremlin. And a bad one.

But mr. Goodness is going to help me get it to Arty and out of my ship, hmhmm.
Wait! What? There is a way to get rid of freckles? Other than getting flayed by a redcap that is.
Wow.

*gets distracted by the cascade of rhythms in the music and dances*

'Gremlins. It is always gremlins. Little buggers get into the walls and start messing with things. Could also be sabotage. Who knows people will do just about anything to things that don't belong to them.'

Silvia sighs and leans against the bar. Her head is swimming with millions of thoughts but not a single one is coherent enough to understand. She closes her eyes and listens to the melody being played. At the end she walks over to the piano and takes seat on a chair next to creamy. She adjusts a microphone and turns to creamy.

'Do you know Power by Isak Danielson? I'd very much like for you to play it if you do. I can sing along.'
08 Apr 2023, 8:10am
"As the lady wishes" said Creamy schooching over so Silvia had space on the stool as he brought Changing Opinion to a close.

Not much media survived the old Earthlings determination to wipe each other out, but if it was popular in the ancient Eurocentric countries, Creamy probably knew it.

"Ninettee" said Creamy talking to the air "Do we have Danielson, Power?"

"Oui Monsieur" came a female voice from the recesses of Creamys' double berated jacket "Dois-je faire préparer la piste d'accompagnement?"

"Yes please m'dear. I'll be on keyboard" he said fiddling with the mixing deck Silvia had brought him earlier. The music was projected on to music desk, and he looked it over to familiarise himself with the tune.

Reading the music, Creamy could see it was a slow song. Not really something for a bar, but he knew very well the value of a song snug blue when the mood takes you.

"Nubs m'sweet? Would you mind get your ship sent to Saberhagen Orbital in HIP 22961? We'll follow after this number" said Creamy pushing the mic to Silvias' side of the piano.

He started the intro to Power eager to see how well Silvia could sing.
08 Apr 2023, 12:13pm
Upon the first note Silvia closes her eyes. She begins to sing. Her voice is like honey and her Irish accent rings through accentuating the beauty of her voice. Each word rings like it's own little symphony. Silvia had been singing for her entire life. She would often sing to herself while traversing the expanses of the galaxy. Some of her colleagues would often ask her to sing for them while on an expedition. She would sing Venus to sleep on occasion and a few times sang in a bar similar to this one. The song plays out and Silvia lets the last word fall.

'Thank you Lord Goodness. I know it's not the most lively song but the bar is nearly empty at this time and I needed that.'

Silvia reaches into a small pouch on her hip and pulls out Venus' silver Zippo lighter with the royal Duval crest engraved upon it and places it in the glass Eli had placed some coins. She stands from her seat and gives a small bow.

'I do hope to see you again sir. Fly safe live dangerously.'

Silvia returns to the bar to prepare for any further customers to arrive.

Almost no one used coins these days; digital money was easy to track and control, and people that didn't like that had better ways to make exchanges. Still, if Nubs left the coins behind, they would be worth more than their face value.

The lighter was another matter. Creamy felt it had been primarily abandoned, the fact that Creamy may like it thanks to its insignia was probably the trigger. Still, a gift was a gift, and Creamy wouldn't be rude enough not to accept.

He pocketed the coins and the lighter, then closed the piano and trotted off the stage to the bar.

"Thank you for the song Silvia, your voice would shame the heavenly chorus it's self, and it was my pleasure to accompany you. Perhaps one day soon, you and I could sing a duet"

Creamy settled up his bill and checked he hadn't left anything behind.

"We shouldn't be long. I'll get my ship booked in and help Nubs get her ship in for a refit, and see to it she's happy with the changes, then I'll be back"

Creamy stepped back, clicked his heels and gave Silvia a shallow bow.

"Stay busy, and stay off the plonk for a bit, ay? Ta-tar for now" said Creamy, worried about Silvia's state of mind.

With that, he left for the docks, wondering how he'd find Nubs.
10 Apr 2023, 5:55am
As Creamy wandered out of the bar Silvia could do nothing but let out a shallow sigh. She grabs a glass and begins to clean it. Silvia looks over at Creamy as he leaves the bar.

'A duet sounds wonderful something more cheerful next time. You can choose the tune.'

Silvia waves as he leaves the bar though she is certain he didn't see it. She grabs a stool to take a seat and allow her knee some much needed rest while she waits for her next customers to arrive.

The toolbox made a satisfying clang as the maglock made contact with the floor under the table. Rubbing her aching arms, Willow walked up to the bar.

"So um, like, what do you guys have in a full-bodied red?"
15 Apr 2023, 12:06am
Startled out of her mind by the clang Silvia lets out a small yip. She blinks away the vision of the past and sees a charming woman in front of her. Silvia pauses a moment thinking of the proper drink.

'Hmmm might I suggest a Kamadhenu Red? Not many drink reds. I myself prefer rosé.'

Silvia reaches down and grabs a bottle of red wine from the wine cooler. She grabs down a wine glass and pours the drink for the mysterious woman.

'If you need any thing else please don't hesitate to ask. The names Silvia Duval...... shit no not that anymore. Sharpe. Silvia Sharpe.'
15 Apr 2023, 8:32am
"Oh right yeah, so I'm Willow. Er sure, Ka-kama-doo.. that sounds great" said willow giving up on the pronunciation.

She didn't know anything about wine beyond the type she liked to drink, so she just waited while the woman poured. Aware she had fallen silent and was staring at the bar-woman with her big dark eyes, Willow made her self blink. She felt she had held her eyes shut a little to long and the blink looked real unnatural, but she remembered what the self-improvement books had said, and tried not to dwell on what she imagined she had done wrong.

Even in the low gravity her legs ached from all the training, and the coriolis effect was playing havoc with her equilibrium after being planeside for a couple of weeks. Gratefully, she sat down on a stool and tried being social again.

"So like, rosé huh? Like, dose that mean you can't make up your mind?" she said trying out a friendly smile.

Thinking about what she had just said, Willows smile vanished, and apologetic worry moved in.

"Oh wait, I didn't mean it like that. I was like, the red or white thing you know? But I the way I said it .." she stopped and took a breath.

"Sorry, I've been out in the black for months. I'm still in say what's on your mind mode you know? Just to hear a voice. I wasn't trying to be an ass"

At the mention of Willows name Silvia couldn't help but sing a line from O Willow Waly an older folk song.

'But now Alone I lie, Oh willow I die, oh willow I die.'

Silvia stops and looks at the strange woman and smiles. She looks the woman over seemingly trying to get a read on the woes this weary traveler may have seen.

'That is quite alright dear. I suppose you could say I refuse to make my mind up. The black eh? Wonderful oddities and creatures to be found out there. I haven't returned since the ambush........'

Silvia trails off remembering the horrific incident that took place upon her return. Her face shifts from pleasant to terrified as the events play through. She is unable to stop the memories flooding her mind. She collapses to the floor, fear tearing through every corner of her mind. Silvia jolts back to reality as the memory ends with her head slamming against the escape pod and her memory goes blank.

She looks around and realizes she is on the floor. Silvia pulls herself back onto her feet slowly. Her legs are trembling and her hands are shaking profusely. As she stands up straight her legs give out. She manages to catch herself and grab the stool she had been sitting on previously. She looks to Willow a frightened look on her face.

'Please forgive me. I....... I........ *sigh* I'm not where I used to be mentally. Life has a funny way of kicking you around when things seem to be going well.'
15 Apr 2023, 1:38pm
"Wow like, you're the negative of me. You know, with the hair and everything" said Willow stroking her alabaster skin and long black hair.

"So I went into the black because of an ambush.. . or two, and yeah I get it you know? The weak leg's thing. So that's the same but, like, the opposite of me too"

Willow picked up her wine and didn't take her big eyes off the woman as she sipped from the glass. Silvia knew more about wine than Willow did because it was just the taste Willow had been looking for.

"But like, that's a thing, that happened to you. Like I'm not belittling it by any means, no way" said Willow chopping bother her hands for emphasis after putting her glass down while she remembered her own trauma "But like, it's not happen-ing to you, you know? It's in the past" So like, you gotta deal now"

Willow tried to soften her face and changed her voice to the same tone she used when she was bring the departed back to their loved ones, after she had done her beast for their mortal remains.

"Yeah, so if you're braking down to the point where you collapse just from thinking about it, you're not dealing. And people are gonna treat you like a neurotic weirdo. I've put up with that half my life, and believe me, that's no fun" said Willow, thinking about how her big brothers would tease her with that damn song after they made her cry.

"So yeah, I'm no expert, I'm kind of on weekend leave from therapy for my, Event, right now, but I am a good listener and I don't mind how neurotic you need to get"
15 Apr 2023, 2:19pm
'No no it's quite alright.'

Silvia motions around the bar with both hands to put emphasis on her next statement.

'This what you see me doing is me trying to deal with it. This position as barkeep and entertainer helps for the most part keep me occupied. *sigh* but I know what you are saying. It's just been hard, I lost everything I cared about. My wife is buried next to her parents and my sanity is on the brink.'

Silvia closes her eyes takes a deep breath and exhales slowly. As she opens her eyes again she stands from the stool.

'I understand the mental condition I have and I know that as time moves on, so too will the memories fade.'

She walks around the Bar and stands next to Willow.

'Two sides of the same coin one might say. I have a feeling you might know I have gone through. It wasn't just an ambush was it? There was more to it than that. Otherwise you wouldn't have left. I though about leaving. I thought about finding a black hole and tossing myself into it. I still do..... I won't, but I think about it.'

Silvia's tone is calm yet there is an underlying sadness to it as she speaks. The events that transpired running through her mind still. Though for some reason just being in the presence of someone who seems to understand, the memories don't sting nearly as much.

"Oh like yeah, you're not wrong. There's like so much more, but what ever, right? That was like months back, and about 35 thousand light years ago, but I got my self some closure"

If this stranger didn't want to talk, Willow wasn't going to push it too much. Maybe talking about her own steps to recovery may help Silvia out.

"So ok, I'm making it sound like its all over, but you know, like I said, I only got back here like a fortnight ago and I'm still taking steps, with support so I don’t fall down. Like, at the start I was all, no one else has to get involved in my shit, I have to do it my self you know? But I wouldn't have got out from that nightmare if people didn't come for me. And it took a lot of running for me to remember, doing it alone is like, way harder than having people to help me deal"

Taking a break to sip her wine, Willow's unblinking eyes took in the woman standing beside her now.

"Yeah ok, that's for next week Willow I guess. I'm here to relax and check out the chance of finding some tekky work. Come Monday, that monster Brandt will be busting my ass again"
15 Apr 2023, 4:03pm
'I'm not necessarily alone..... I mean currently in this very point in time... right here and now I am. I sent my friend off to her quarters after giving her a special drink I came up with a couple years ago. Wipes all trace of memory for 48 hours. Allows you to forget for a while. It works but it can become addicting.'

Silvia pauses then turns to Willow. Looking deep into her unblinking gaze. She tilts her head slightly out of curiosity then in a tone full of pain she begins to speak.

'The only person I cared about more than my family is dead because of me. Those men took me, abused me and tortured me. I got out because my wife gave up her life and my new found friend..... no not friend, she is more than that.... nearly died trying to protect me. I owe Julia and my dearly departed my life. I know I shouldn't do this alone but I cannot bare the thought of dragging someone else along with me while I try to sort out my mind.'

Silvias last sentence is almost venomous but not directed toward Willow instead seems directed at herself. She clenches a fist and grabs her right shoulder the cold metal from the cybernetics startling her a bit. She continues to look at Willow and her expression softens.

'I do not mean to be rude... like I said before I am losing my sanity and just earlier I was a crying mess and now look at me.'
