General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Vodan
How long had it been? A year maybe. Everything had gone to shit after meeting that Imperial prick; and the ass hole hadn't even bothered to show up after Vodan had worked hard to set up a truce. Now he had been prancing around the bar, singing and dancing like the ponce he was, as if no one wanted his head.

Well if you dance, you must pay the piper, and Vodan wanted payback. With an image of Creamy on his holo, Vodan tried to straighten out his messy beard, and entered the fuckin Glactic again. .. As medics carrying a pretty woman in a stretcher barge past him.

"Groovy, stage 3 fucked already" he cursed under his breath.

This time, no one pushed past him and Vodan scanned the people in the bar and almost ducked out when he saw the face of a woman he'd never forget. This time she didn't have a dirty great Plasma Cannon with her and didn't appear to be wearing body armor. Taking no chances, Vodan turned on his personal shield, low emitter so it wouldn't glow, and wandered up behind Meowers all casual-like.

Putting one hand on her back, and the other gripping her arm as if greeting a friend, Vodan spoke softly in her ear.

"Hay Ina Muir. If you are here, that fuck-boy Creamy is too. Let me know where he is, and nothing more needs to happen today. I only want to talk to the prick for now" he whispered
"Why do I know that voice and what the actual fuck is happening...", I whispered in return.

There were several thoughts on my mind right now. First one, I could turn around quickly and kick that person in the stomach, and I haven't seen anyone able to withstand that kind of treatment so far. But he may be armed, and I've even forgotten my pistol in the cockpit, doing that 'in-and-out' bar run. And... There may be many of them as well. Second, it might be someone from that Creamy's past, his artifact stuff or kidnappers or whatever, so, I'm not going to tell him where he is... And I don't know it anyway. Third one: when people of that type say 'nothing will happen', something will happen, but you won't like it.

Placing my hand on top of his, as if I've tried to get rid of unwanted male attention, I've also noticed... It didn't feel like human skin, or like fabric, leather, metal, whatever else sort of glove. It felt... solid, but giving me an electric tingling in return. Personal shield generator. No glowing, no humming, a low-power one. Still, an advantage in hand-to-hand.

"Okay, he left the bar a few hours ago, that's all I know...", I replied quietly, but then switched to my normal voice, in attempt to make him think I'm really going to say something. "Ah, stop. I remem..."

So, the fourth thought: shields can soak some hits and punches, but won't grant you more physical strength than you already have. Fifth, if he's not alone, then his friends are also behind me. Sixth: both his hands are on my body, if he's armed, then the weapon is holstered.

I grabbed his forearm, the arm that was gripping my hand, with my opposite hand, and turned around quickly, raising the arm as I turn, exposing his side and turning his upper body, forcing him to go off-balance.

"What exactly 'needs to happen' today?"

Was glad to see he didn't bring any friends.

Creamy was a master martial artist and Ti-fuckin-tanicly strong; Vodan had his arse kicked by Creamy plenty of times. Ina was, by comparison, an enthusiast amateur without the strength, and Vodan had been training to face Creamy again.

Using the half-gravity, Vodan, keeping one hand on Ina kicked off and rotated to get back on his feet.

"Hahaha, just like old times Meowers" he said in a jovial tone patting Ina on the shoulder so she could see the extended punch dagger.

"You were just doing a job, I get that" he continued at a private volume "I got no problem with a merc makin scratch, but Creamy fucked us both. You can't be friends with that fruity slut, so you gotta be after him, and he's mine. Now tell me where he is, and I'll give you 60, no 70 percent of the bounty. I just want to talk to him before Vengerfields goons, you know, the ones you didn't kill, get here"
09 Jun 2023, 10:56pm
Now that was something that I wasn't exactly expecting. I could exchange a few blows with that guy, hand-to-hand, but both shield and a dagger? That was a bit too much. Yeah, there were some knives around the bar, but, gah, kitchen knives against that? And, grabbing a knife, I will burn all chances to play that stuff out more psychologically.

Keeping my eyes on his slightest moves, I replied.

"Bounty? What kind of bounty are you talking about? Back then, like a year, I took a contract. With a bounty. Turned out, he was my target too. But then it all ended up in an attempt to kill me as well, without paying me a single rusty coin. Are you sure you aren't being duped the same way?"

I watched the man pull a dagger on the woman in the military uniform and decided that, for better or for worse, I wasn’t interested in standing for that. And I didn’t make the fully powered shield I carried a secret.

“Alright, I don’t know what the hell your problem is, and maybe I should stay out of this, but you just started threatening someone only because you’ve got a problem with someone else who isn’t even here, right after a person that I care for had a problem of their own. Care to fill me in before I throw any non-corrupt security officer on this station at you for being an ass?”

I crossed my arms, and gave whoever this rude man was a warning look from underneath my hood.

“And I suggest you keep that dagger of yours where it is, or you’ve got more than just me and her to worry about. It’s in your interest more than it is in mine for things to stay quiet.”

My own knife remained in its holster on my back for now - I saw no need to use it yet, but if I had to, I would.

Nor did I see any need to give away the military training - what I remembered of it, at least - or augmented physical strength from the Thargoids’ modifications to my body - I preferred to keep him guessing about me, rather than to show all my cards.

Could Vengerfield be that many steps ahead of him? It was the Pirate Lord's Credits, and more importantly, forgiveness Vodan was after. Maybe Vengerfield was playing a larger game. Maybe he'd let Vodan get this close to Creamy so he could take out Creamy, and Vodan who he considered a traitor at the same time. Hell, Ina could be here because of Venrgerfields long-reaching plans too. She had wasted well over twenty of the guys back then, including two of Vodans friends. Maybe Venferfield wanted her too.

His grip on the AXDF pilot slackened, and he withdrew the blade back into its hidden sheath as he judged the wisdom of fighting with someone that maybe looking down the same barrel when the hunters coming for Creamy got here.

"Well, fuck" Is all he could say as he contemplated new avenues.

“And I suggest you keep that dagger of yours where it is, or you’ve got more than just me and her to worry about. It’s in your interest more than it is in mine for things to stay quiet.”

The old double barrel shoty came out from under his coat. He held it close to his chest, pointed at the gobby cow getting involved.

"The knife is for friends, your not my friend. Sit the fuck down, and finish your drink. I'm thinking"

“Alright, that’s better.”, I said, but kept my distance - I had no reason to assume they weren’t scheming something else. “Now, maybe you could explain yourself. Because I’m sure everyone here would appreciate that.”

“And if you try anything, the next thing you’ll remember is that migraine you got from landing on a wall a little too hard. But I see no reason for us to be enemies unless you choose to be.”

That was what I had to say for now - I’d have to choose my words carefully if I actually wanted this to stop from turning any more awry than it already was.

"Easy, easy", I said with my normal voice, stepping back, beyond the punching range. Still can't save me from the shotgun, though. Showing my open palm to the woman in the dark clothes, signalling that the situation isn't exactly that bad, I continued, lowering the voice so that Vodan could still hear me more or less clearly, but, supposedly, nobody else.

"So you wanted to waste more of your time fighting me, in a bar full of other people, having those hitmen on your trail. Under all those security and corporate 'we-won't-let-them-slack-out' staff monitoring cameras. Letting them know where you've been, and having more trouble with the authorities after that. What makes you want him so badly? For a person who's also hunted, you don't seem too much concerned of your own safety."

And, thinking a bit more, I added.

"Considering the health accident here, those cameras might be already monitored remotely."

"Do you know how guns work dumb-ass? Shut the fuck up" Explained Vodan confused by a woman that was under the impression she wasn't about to have her face turned in to so much ground chuck.

Vodan stepped away from Meowers, and drew his second weapon in case. Meowers was fuckin dangerous too. He pointed another two barrels at her, but down by her feet as a professional courtesy. It was the bimbo over the other side that was pissing him off.

"Look, I got 4 barrels, one for each of ya. There is next to fuck all security left on this station, and they are all paid off, and I couldn't give a rat's ass about cameras. Now find Creamy and get him the fuck off this station, or you'll wish it was the bastard Goids coming, and not Vengerfield"

"That dill-weed was supposed to be my golden ticket, not fuckin bait"
09 Jun 2023, 11:58pm
“Believe me, I know how weapons work, and I don’t think you’re thinking straight. If you shoot me, you’ve got a lot worse to worry about than some criminal overlord on a trip. Unless you’re willing to get yourself an irredeemable from all three superpowers on the spot, you might want to think twice about pulling that trigger.”

I made it very clear that I was not bluffing in the slightest, and my patience was also beginning to reach its end.

“You probably think I’m stupid, and have it all figured out. I wouldn’t be so confident if I were in your position. Besides, she is telling the truth when saying that Creamy is not on the station. You’d know if he was, because he’d be here in this damned bar.”

My hands remained where they were, since any movement would likely provoke a gun to be shot, but I was still ready to jolt either forward, or backward and into cover, depending on need. And I had a sidearm - it simply wasn’t visible.

“Again, you’re just letting… well, from my perspective, you just look really pissed at the guy for something I don’t even know about, and started pointing guns at people. Do you think that makes us talk more than asking nicely, so we don’t tell you random bullshit to stop you from pulling the trigger?”

Placing one hand on one of the kitchen tables behind the bar and another one on my waist, I tried to compose a coherent reply. It's, kind of, difficult, when you're used to sheer force solutions, and they work most of the time for you, but now you don't have that advantage.

"And... A golden ticket to what exactly? Of course you won't tell me, but think of it. And also. More logic. If I'm still after him, then why I'm unarmed? And, if I'm his friend, what makes you think he cares of me enough to show up here? Anyway, even if he does, I may send him a message, but I don't know where he is. He may be light years away and sleeping. Hours to process the message, hours to wake up read it, hours to reach this place."

"There was enough time to find another pampered Imperial kid and milk their parents for ransom. Then it's not the money you're interested in. And, if I get that right, searching for that thing is what nearly got us both killed. So, your chances to end up expendable just soared sky high."

"Maybe you should tell me why are you after him."

"What is it with this place and have-a-go-fuckin-heroes?" He took the shotty off Meowers, and swung it round on Suttorad.

"Because you lanky streak of piss, he's a dick. And now he's stopped covering his tracks, some even bigger dicks are coming for him. If he's not turned over to the head.. " Vodan was about to call Vengerfiled something, but fear made him stop in case his old master found out.

"Well, we're all fucked. The master won't leave enough of this station to salvage if he has to fetch Creamy himself. So where is he?"

Vodan knew he was here, there was a piano on the stage and two ships registered to Creamy were in the hanger. Creamy hadn't visited either while Vodan had been watching them. If he wasn't in the bar, maybe he was at that fuckin tea and cake stall in the pilots market.

Seeing Meowers, and knowing Vengerfields carrier fleet was only a few jumps away made him act rash. Now he was paying the price.
10 Jun 2023, 11:28am
"Told you already. I have no slightest fucking idea."

With nothing solid enough to throw at him, my set of options wasn't exactly optimistic. Hiding behind the fridge nearby will certainly make me even more pinned down, and just trying to jump somewhere while I'm not at gunpoint could still lead to him shooting. No, if there's a way to resolve this, those shotguns should remain loaded.

"So, come on, connect the dots. You're being hunted by that master's people, while expecting to be paid generously by the same master. Don't you see a lack of common sense in that? Won't it be easier for that master to dispose of you once your job is done? Besides, shooting in the bar will most likely alert him and you're not going to find him for a while, and that will certainly piss off that master even more."

Actually, I've been using whatever little diplomatic abilities I've had to their maximum, and, not having a habit of relying on them, still tried to find any way to gain the upper hand and overpower the opponent. No luck so far.

"So you're now showing off all your previously hidden weapons to some total strangers in the bar thinking these people will lead you to him. Without secretly telling him of your arsenal. Hey, those hitmen are going to kill you anyway, regardless. Maybe you should put those boomsticks back under the coat and think of yourself, without making even more enemies along the way."
10 Jun 2023, 11:42am
"You know him Ina, and there's no way you can't call him. Get your pad out and tap that contact. You know he'll come running to play super-stud. Then he can un-fuck what he fucked-up"

Vodan was keeping the barrels pointed in the direction of woman in black and man with the rifle, but not directly at them.
10 Jun 2023, 12:26pm
"And what exactly do you want me to say him? 'Hey, there's an armed man in the bar, he wants to capture you again'?"

Anyway, there was no other painless option rather than to call Creamy. Though, before actually making a voice call, I kept talking while sliding my thumb over the on-screen keyboard to compose the message. Thankfully, the auto-completion feature was making this a lot faster.

"Okay, found him in the contacts..."

Hoping that answering the call will attract his attention to the incoming message notification, I tapped the 'Call' button.

"Hello, Creamy. There's a man in the bar looking for you. And he's quite angry. Maybe you should pay attention."
10 Jun 2023, 12:26pm
“Who the hell is this ‘master’ you’re talking about?”, I decided to interject. “You two talk like hell itself is about to come crashing down on our heads, but all I see is someone who barged into the bar and started threatening someone because of… an old grudge? Or what? What did that Creamy guy even do wrong to piss people off like this?”

‘And if all hell’s about to break loose, I’d rather know about it so I can disappear if I need to.’, I added in my thoughts.
