General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Willow, that thinking is the rout of the problem a fair minded person should be worried about" said Ephrain not hiding his condescending attitude.

"Shipping people off because of a threat they may pose is a fair few steps up the ivory tower of dictatorship. What next? You should pay more tax on your earnings because you weren't born here. I'm just protecting the interest of the people you have joined"

"Oh, it looks like your opinions fly in the face of the majority, so you are excluded from benefits that people towing the line receive, like voting. The majority must come first"

"You disagree with my policies, then you can't live on my planet anymore"

Ephrain let that one hang there for a moment.

"Dramatic and exaggerated, but I think I underlined the point you missed Willow"

A girl that looked like she just came from a ninja anonymous meeting put a bottle of Lavian Brandy on their table. That suited the guys because that's what was in the glasses the waitress had brought over too.

Kira Goto
“Consider this as an apology for… recent events.”

“I’ll just… get out of your way now. Just want a damn quiet evening on this station for once.”

"Wha' di.." stuttered Willow watching he girl leave.

Damn this bar was full or strange people. All Willow wanted every time she came is was a quiet evening, but people wouldn't leave her alone, or they would be flat out weird with her.

Maybe this was how you got a quiet evening in the bar. Buy someone a drink and tell them to leave you alone. Willow had come across stranger customs.

While trying to absorb what Ephrain had said, Willow noticed a shiny stone beside her glass.

"Whatever Rain, I get what your saying I guess"

Looking around the table, Willow saw everyone had a stone beside their glass. She'd seen the waitress but something else down, but Willow had assumed it was a napkin or coaster.

"Hey guys. Like, what's this thing?"

Ridge picked up his stone and held it up to a light to see if he could look through it.

"Dang its pretty. I guess this here is a Void Opel. Worth somewhere over a weeks wages if'n its the real thing" he said lowering the gem and smiling at Willow.

"But what I wanna know is, what in the hell have you been doing up here that makes some one buy you an expensive drink not to sit with them. I mean, shit! That's a talent worth more'ta me that this stone" he said tossing it over to Mark.

"That's a skill I would employ with great effect at the next family BBQ I tell you wut. Oo-ee you can bet'ya" laughed Ridge slapping the table with his cybernetic hand.

"It is an Opel" siad Ephrain inspecting his gem "And baring imperfections that will bring the price down, they could be worth three weeks pay polished, or over a months worth cut" he said slipping his stone into his pocket.

"Yes, what ever it is you did Willow, do carry on" he said from behind his holo-pad

Mark looked at the two stones in his hands. To him they were not just measured in credits, they were capable of shortening his work contract. Better yet, his wife's contract. He'd be glad to work for months, or even years more if it meant his wife could join their children in Colonia.

"So er, where do I find a gem cutter round here?" he asked looking at the unexpected bounty.

I came back into the bar after finishing my food, not because I wanted to, but because it was too busy for me outside - I couldn’t tell if I’d just picked a bad moment, when the workers came out of their shifts, but the bar provided a slight buffer between me and the activity outside, one that I felt I needed.

Other than some confusion, my action hadn’t caused much, and I was glad for that. I ordered some still water from the barkeep, before going off into a corner where someone had sat recently, far back of the bar.

Expecting one of them to come over and ask what on Earth my act was about, I kept an ear open, but otherwise focused on my wrist computer, responding to Silvia’s message. While I wanted to have a break from the outside world, I wasn’t opposed to a simple chat either. At least, it was relatively quiet, and nobody created additional noise with the piano.

Hey Kas

Don't worry about it too much. I understand your hesitation. As for where I went well, Melli and I went home. I'm originally from Earth and with recent events I decided I should spend some time back here. If you find yourself in Sol so by Earth and we can catch up. For now I have something to attend to here. Thank you for everything and keep the tanzanite as a bit of a Memento.

Goodbye for now,

Silvia

Hey.

Probably won’t be coming to Sol anytime soon. Currently more busy helping the evacuation and retrieval efforts for the war. I prefer helping it in that way, rather than pulling a gun on the Thargoids.

Just trying to relax in the bar a little after calling it a day. Since there’s no one trying to start a fight or something, for once. Maybe we’ll see each other somewhere later.

- Kas

I sent off the message and turned the device off, instead pulling out an old family picture. Just me and sis on the last day of military training. Some memories of our time together came back to me - not as many as I’d have liked, not as few as it could have been. Dwelling on it made me feel a little better, so I let myself drift into thoughts.

Obviously, Mark was doing some thinking. Willow didn't need to be as smart as Eprain to see that.

"So, back when I was in the family business, miners were like, regular customers you know? I guess busting open rocks with explosives can be real bad for your ship. But like, so many of them paid mom with cut gems right?"

"What I'm saying is look for a miner Mark. There has to be a few bringing in raw materials for the foundry. Maybe some of them have spent days in the black hunting LTDs, learning how to cut gems to pass the time you know?"

"And like, here" Willow handed Mark her Opel "So if you get them cut, I'll take the least valuable of the three, as your doing all the leg work you know?"

Willow had no intention of taking anything back from Mark, and she guessed he knew it. It was less embarrassing for the guy than straight up charity in front of everyone.

Willow joined Ridge is looking at Ephrain through his hollo screen knowing full well it was pointless expecting him not to keep his stone to himself.

After recording my log, I began journey to the bar. I am organizing event, so what is better place to announce it as bar? I entered bar, ordered one Lavian Brandy in my Hutton mug and sat down on the bar stool.
I had a look around the bar.

I saw there some worker-like people and that mysterious woman in black Dominator suit, which I 've seen some days ago, Kasumi was probably her name. When I got my mug with brandy, I told bartender some info and stood up. With the spoon, handed by bartender, I hit the mug three times.

Everyone got quiet, what was planned effect. I said: "In the recent days, I made big money on bounty hunting. So much, that I don't know what to do with them. Then I get idea-be the fasttest person at the most furthest outpost in the known universe-legendary Hutton Orbital. Event is planned on the 30th June, 3309 and is organised by me. Start is at the al-Din Prospect, Alpha Centauri. More info have bartender, because I don't have much time now".

Brandy, which was in the mug, I got into me on the three times. Then, as usually, I dissapeared from the bar.

Now it was my turn to look up and around in confusion. I'd only just about caught the mention of the Hutton Orbital thing, but not particularly what it was for. Not that it mattered much, as my interest in wasting an hour and a half in supercruise - at the very least - was very minimal, and doing the trip for a not-so-uncommon badge wasn't a particular motivator either.

I spared a moment for a thought of anyone getting fooled by the free Anaconda joke, and that it seemed odd to announce it in off-hours, then returned to my previous thoughts, though with an eye on Willow's group to see how they reacted to this impromptu announcement.

The man had left as quickly as he'd arrived, so I didn't expect much, but I was still curious. Particularly due to the way he interrupted all other ongoing conversation.

I chose to drop by the bar after a day of doing a whole lot of nothing, which yet left me feeling exhausted, as though I hadn’t slept much.

Wearing the same attire as last time - sweater and simple pants - I checked that my hood sat right, then headed in. I waved a lazy hi to Silvia behind the bar, then headed off into a corner and practically fell into a sofa, checking my messages.

Nothing interesting, so I shut the wrist computer off again, and turned to my usual habit of observing the local activity.
24 Jun 2023, 7:03pm
Entering the Bar I take a look around to see if there is anyone in immediate need of services. Not seeing anyone particularly needing anything I head into the back room where and place my suitcases down after offering a friendly wave to Kira. I take a few minutes to change into some more appropriate attire. I pick out a white button up shirt, a royal purple vest and a grey knee length skirt. I pick out my pair of black slip on flats and place my rifle in the weapons rack near the door. Melli looks at me and lets out a curious chatter.

Melli get toys please?

'Yes Melli you get your toys.'

I smile and scratch her on the head before walking over and opening up her suitcase full of enrichment items and food. She jumps around when she sees the pile of rodent like plushes. I head out into the bar closing the door behind me and begin to set up the newest event planned.

I work on the holo AD and when satisfied with the way it looks I send it out over the Station AD systems.

"Come join us in the Galactic, tomorrow, to Celebrate all the hard working souls attempting to get this Station back to its former Glory."

"Food and Drinks will be provided free of charge to patrons, courtesy of an anonymous donor."

'I really hope the workers enjoy this.'

I head over to my position behind the bar and begin to wash the glasses that have been left by the previous shift.

With Silvia’s announcement, I expected there to be a sudden influx of visitors to the bar, be that regulars or otherwise, so I got up from my spot and picked some basic food from the vending machine before it became too full. I was hungry, so it was just as well that I did.

Once I had it heated up, I picked a stool at the corner of the bar top furthest from the entrance, and looked to Silvia.

“So how’d they rope you back in to here? Thought you’d be gone for a bit longer.”
24 Jun 2023, 8:54pm
Kira takes a seat in front of me and I offer a friendly smile.

'The other sommelier is not going to be available for their shift. Unfortunately not many people are willing to come back to the station to cover a shift.'

I try to keep the response simple in the even anyone of the barflies happens to be one of the pirates working for Vengerfield trying to gather information about Creamy's whereabouts.

'I was planning on being at home working on rebuilding it but well the universe had other plans.'

I place the glass I was cleaning away and grab another one from the wash station to clean. Curious about Kira and her being on station, I inquire about her last message.

'So you're running evac missions still? Not worried about you know....*makes a small motion to Kira to imply I mean her implants.* I would be steering clear of anything having to do with those things if I were you.'

I look at my messages and see that I have a message from management.

Your event has an error. We are offering food and drinks to patrons and staff. please correct this don't want the workers to quit on us.

'Oh Crap. Hold on Kas, I have to fix the announcement.'

"Come join us in the Galactic, tomorrow, to Celebrate all the hard working souls attempting to get this Station back to its former Glory."

Silvia SharpeI would be steering clear of anything having to do with those things if I were you.'

“Maybe I should. But it’s not usually like me to just sit back and do nothing if I can… at least, for something like this. Especially not in the position I am in… besides, I wouldn’t know what else to do if I stayed out of this war.”

I decided not to tell her about my ‘adventures’ around abandoned settlements in Thargoid controlled space, which would likely earn me a stern telling-off, and chewed on some food instead.

“Well, it’s not just what I’ve been doing …” I paused to swallow, clearing my mouth completely. “Been bringing in some supplies occasionally. Another of the many things an Imperial Cutter is good for. Sold at standard rates, mind you, not the overinflated prices that seem to be necessary so anyone brings in the materials to rebuild.”

Another pause.

“Oh, and I prefer my full name in public. Don’t care much if it’s in private or just us, but you know.”

I watched Silvia correct the announcement as I continued to eat.
24 Jun 2023, 9:23pm
'If that is what you prefer who am I to judge?'

I give a Kira a sort of friendly look of "hmm" before placing the glass away. I turn my full attention to Kira at this point.

'Look I'm not saying stay far far away. I'm more saying I personally would try to find some other way to steer clear. Like the whole cargo runs thing that is one way.'

I take a deep breath and let it out slowly.

'You don't have to explain yourself to me. Now what can I get you to drink? They are free ya know.'

I wink at Kira at the mention of the drinks being free. Even with the event not going on until tomorrow the funds that I donated for the station party are surely more than enough to cover a nights worth of drinking for a small army.
24 Jun 2023, 9:56pm
Silvia SharpeLike the whole cargo runs thing that is one way.'

“If they didn’t bore me to death after two back and forths, I’d consider it more, but I wasn’t made to be a hauler. Certainly not for anything long-term. And it’s not quite the same as helping other people to safety. You know what I mean? And don’t worry - I can handle myself.”

I looked around, as though to ensure no one was paying too close attention.

“Anyway, I’ll just take still water, as usual.”

I tilted my head down a little, providing her with a look that was meant to say ‘Even if I wanted to try anything fancy, I don’t know how this thing in my head would react to it’.
24 Jun 2023, 10:23pm
'Between you and me if you want to try a drink and it goes south I'll put you in the back room for a bit. It is entirely your choice though.'

I return to my normal tone and begin speaking again.

'One wa....... hmmm no..... ooo I know!'

I grab a glass down from the rack and place it in front of Kira I scoop a couple bits of ice into it. Turning to my right I reach down and grab a couple of colorful liquids(non-carbonated, and non-alcoholic in nature). I grab a cocktail spoon and pour each of the four colorful liquids into the glass taking car to not allow them to mix until the drink is ready.

Purple (grape), peach (pear), green (apple), and silver (pineapple), liquids sit layered onto of eachother. I reach into the fridge under the bar and pull out a chilled glowing capsule and place it in the center of the glass. As soon as the little orb becomes submerged it begins to glow vibrantly. I give the drink a slight stir letting the colors finally begin to swirl around in a chaotic frenzy illuminated from the core.

I pull out a second glass and fill it with water per the request of Kira and place it next to the drink.

'One water. And.... one nova. Its just a fancy fruit punch. But its pretty.'
