General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

'Huh? You afraid you're going to hit a 5'4 woman when you've got that thing aimed at his head?' Motions exaserbatedly at Vodan. 'He is 6 freaking foot tall, you'll miss me. Also...' points at my waist showing my belt with 6 pistol mags and what would appear to be micro grenades. 'If you're worried about a gun fight breaking out I can cover us long enough to get to the docks.'

It's a long shot but I have been in plenty off skirmishes though in most of them I had heavy shields right now I've got at best an armored jacket and pants. I look to Vodan.

'What say you about getting your life back the old fashioned way huh? I can tell you fear this guy more than you care for your freedom. That is not a good way to live.'
11 Jun 2023, 2:28pm
"Nnnnnope", I couldn't see Silvia's gestures whilst keeping my eyes on Vodan, but, as for me, she sounded too self-confident. "What I was trying to say is that I don't want to end up pinned down by a friggin' army in a lousy bar, having only eighty rounds. As much as I don't want to fight a friggin' army, over somebody else's things, at all."

"I have a plan of what to do with all that, but these are Creamy's matters and I want to hear what he might say."
11 Jun 2023, 2:29pm
Hearing her name come from his mouth after Creamy had vowed never to say it out loud again was vexing. He very much wanted to stop Vodan saying her name like it was no big deal ever again. But Vodan was, for the most part, right.

"I did stop using cover names and forged IDs after I stepped back from working for Errand of Mercy. I mean, it had been so long, and I hadn't had any trouble, I sort of, you know, felt it was alright to be ones self again"

"I may not know where .. the Doctor is, or why this brutish animal is so interested in her whereabouts, but I am causing problems for people and I can't have that"

There was more to say, but feeling like going to settle things with Vengerfield once and for all was one thing. Actually saying it out loud and doing it were entirely different.
11 Jun 2023, 2:41pm
"Uhhhh...", I let out a long sigh. "So, my plan. We tie up that fuming hairy arse and one of us will take him to some random station away from here. I'm not a specialist at forging IDs, but providing him with one might be a good idea. So that he will get off Vengerfield's radars. And you, Creamy, I think you should be more careful from now on. So, with Vodan invisible for Vengerfield, and you covering your tracks better, we might get all that situation defused for a long time. Assuming that Vodan will start enjoying his second chance life and stop doing shit. Otherwise, we may not be as friendly next time we see him."

"Whatever life you've had in the past", I addressed to Vodan, "is long gone now. But you're still holding to a hope to get it back, having no power at all. Because Vengerfield was the power. But that hope is false."

"But... Uh. Cream. If you want to surrender and go through whatever hell might happen to you, who am I to stop you."
11 Jun 2023, 2:43pm
"Yeah, and the reason you had such an easy ride, is because I was behind you taking out any bounty hunters that got close"

Turning on Meowers Vodan felt just pissed off enough to correct one insult. At least he hoped she was wrong about this.

"And the Master didn't let me do anything. Unlike Lord La-La here, I used good fake IDs and really covered my tracks waiting for the right moment to get close and talk to him about sorting this out" Vodan turned on Creamy again "Without getting kicked in the fucking head real hard"

"Seriously, this guy can't stop kicking people in the head" Vodan told the room at large.

"And as for mounting a plucky defense force against some crumby little crime boss, for-fuckin-get it" he said to Silvia, as if telling a child her stupid plan was stupid.

"You're talking about a guy that kicks the superpowers out of systems when he wants them. He's routed the Feds and the Imps; even the Goids were held back at his borders longer than the powers managed.

"He's coming here with two carriers full of ships, and loaded with troops. And I know how much firepower that is because I used to command one of his carriers before this.."

Calling Meowers a name while she had the gun in his face felt like a dumb move

"..merc fucked it up for me"
11 Jun 2023, 2:55pm
Meowers"What I was trying to say is that I don't want to end up pinned down by a friggin' army in a lousy bar, having only eighty rounds. As much as I don't want to fight a friggin' army, over somebody else's things, at all."

'Right hmm makes sense.. though we wouldn't be trapped. There is an escape path we could use to get us to the docks. But you are right now exactly the best place to be.'

I grab the Vodans weapons from the floor and walk them over to the bartop. I unload both shot guns and look over the punch daggers. I look to Creamy who I can tell seems conflicted.

'Creamy.... gah why that name..... not important. I'm kind of with Ina here. We might be able to smuggle both of you off station. We can use one of my ships. They know nothing about me nor my ships. Hell the ships aren't even registered to me. They are all registered to Venus. Which could give us the ability to slip away and come up with a much better plan. It would also get us the hell off station before this army, if they are on their way, decide to show up.'

I think for a moment before continuing.

'I've got an evac cutter on station, currently undergoing repairs on pad 02. We could use that and find a much better place to determine a better course of action.'

“Hey, uh. ‘Scuse me.” Cass stops petting Melli and wanders over, leaving the fox on the table. “Really sorry, but, didn’t the ominous man say that all the jump points are guarded? Even if you do get off station, and to another system, it’s likely that they’ll have manifest scanners. The ones that scan for cargo and passengers, y’know?”
11 Jun 2023, 3:08pm
"Oi careful whit those guns love. They got shock packs in them, coz another thing Creamy can't stop doing is whipping a gun out of your hands if you get too close. So don't pull too hard on the lanyard"

"Wouldn't want you to frazzle ya new do would I"
11 Jun 2023, 3:12pm
"Hmm, it's a hard one to chew, but I do know that my being here is bad for you lot, and that's not fair"

"Run run as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the gingerbread man" said Creamy under his breath. He was very good at running.

"On one hand, I've done the old secret identity thing for a while now, and that's forced me to try a way of life I would otherwise never have sampled. On the other, I do rather enjoy being me, and what's the point of life unless you get to live it. In that respect, I can see how old Reg here feels" said Creamy pointing at Vodan.

"It looks like I get in my ship now, waggle my tail father at Vengerfields chaps until they give chase, and then go on the run again. Or, we trust Reginald here to .. take me to his leader and smooth things over. Getting the rest of you deeply involved sounds like a bad investment"

"Your expert opinion Mrs Muri? Silvia?"

The look on Creamys face said it all. Both options were life changing for him, one could change a very short life into death. Then his face brightened up.

"I say, I could run into a Goid mother ship. You know, put that doom-fleet this chap is supposed to have to some good use"

'OK sure but how likely is it they are going to put an wing in a maelstrom? My guess not likely. Nobody is stupid enough to try and sit there waiting. We have a maelstrom on our doorstep right now. My cutter well Venus' cutter is specially designated to get in and out of a thargoid zone.....'

I nod when vodan warns about the shock packs.

'Thanks..... uh who the fuck are you? Never got the name.... or if it was said I didn't catch it... but besides that you said they held off the thargoids doesn't mean they are actively willing to place themselves inside the hot zone of a fucking maelstrom. I on the otherhand am crazy enough to go through one just to survive.'

Melli takes the jacket in her mouth and runs over to my side and hops up on the bartop. She drops the jacket the makes her way over to Creamy. She sits directly next to him, her curious eyes observing him.

Seeing the situation calming down, I removed my left hand from the fore-end, placing it on the table nearby, and lowered the barrel, getting into the more relaxed stance.

"Hm... That's possible", I replied to the person with a long purple hair. "Though there are some ways to smuggle people, shielding them from scanners, keeping them in the cockpit as if they were your crewmembers, whatever. I used to smuggle two people in the cockpit once, but it was a backward shit settlement without anything we may call a modern security measure."

Then I heard Creamy's decisions. That was a bit... Heavy.

"You're going to risk greatly. I'd like to help you with something, but if you're going to surrender, I can't do any good there, they will just shoot me or worse. As much as I have trouble believing Vodan's words, I'm also hell certain about him not having a full picture and being manipulated."

"Sadly, I can't say how does it feel, to want your way of life back. I definitely don't want to have my past back. So... If you want to risk, it's your decision to make. But clashing them against the Thargoids sounds cool. I may as well cover you on the initial stage, keeping the pests out, to make sure you lead them into the swarm deeply enough."

"So, if you're, in general, willing to keep evading them, I'm up for a Thargoid option."

"Oh. didn't realize you could do it like that." and then, a pause to think about the Thargoid option. or well, them thinking if it would work, taking their pencil out of their pocket and spinning it between two fingers absentmindedly.

My data pad alerts me to a new message and I open it up to see it's from Kira.

Hey, Kasumi here.

You out of the hospital/back in the bar yet? Everything ok? Asking both for you, and because of that crazy guy pointing guns at everyone. Said something about some crazed pirate lord being stupid or obsessed enough to risk bringing his fleet next to that of a Maelstrom because of one guy(Creamy - that name is still so stupid).

Currently in my ship, decided to get out of the bar when he showed up again. Not sure if I should bother staying or leaving. Knowing those pirate types, they'll just shoot anyone on sight even if they have nothing they want.

(Ignore if this went to the wrong person.)

I finish reading the message as the others are figuring out the course of action and I respond.

Hey ya im doing ok. Got to the bar to find a full blown stand off. Things seem to be ok now. At least for the time being that is. But I might need to ask you a favor. We are talking about leading the pirates into a titan. Not really sure what the actual plan is going to be. I will attempt to keep you up to date but if we go through a maelstrom system I wont have much time to respond. Sooo ya guess I'll see you around.

Silv

I finish the message and send it off. I look to Creamy and prod for an answer.

'Soo Lord Goodness of Cubeo 3. What is your decision? Everything right now comes down to you.'

"I'm not playing a game of who the fuck are you Owl-Eyes, just be careful with my gear, it's rigged" Vodan faced Creamy "But who the fuck is Reginold? How did you get from Vodan to Reginald? You know what, it don't matter, you're thick as shit, I get that?"

"Look, I know whats in it for me, and I wouldn't walk into the master's throne room unless I was gonna come out again. Once he is sure you don't know where Nerys is, I don't think he'll kill you either. You're the son of an Imp army big-wig, and your mom is in council with the princess. That's a lot of potential heat for killing a ponce like you"

"Just because he can put up a fuckin good fight, it doesn't mean he wants to pick a fight when he doesn't have to. But if you run, he'll look for you, and you'll always be running"

"And yeah ok, I'll give it to you; the maelstrom idea is pretty fuckin good. I didn't think of that. I mean, he'll be sending carries with pursuit and capture fleets, not Goid killers"

Vodan got a good eye full of Silvia for the first time now Meowers gun was not the focus of his world.

"Not a brainless bimbo after all ay Owl-Eyes? Hey, can I get a beer while ya there"
11 Jun 2023, 5:10pm
"Now you mention it, I have got The Knight Two here, and that's fitted with the latest do-hickies for surviving Goide encounters. It's even got those AX rotary cannon thingies on it, not that I've ever fired them"

"My priority is to take the heat off the station, and I can do that if I'm loud about leaving. With the maelstrom and a ship capable of going in, I've got somewhere to hide while I chat with .. Vito here about he's plan to smooth things over once and for all"

"I'm good at running from the Thargoids, but I'll be done for if I have to fight. Any tips Mrs Muri, and what the bloody hell should I do once I'm in there?"
