General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Vodan "Hey. So, you get caught stealing, or did you fuck up a knife trick?"

The guy that was looking down at her was a peg-leg and tricorn hat off being a stereotype. His messy beard and over grown undercut reminded her of the hacker she had met back in the Coal-Sack nebula. Unlike him, this guy was not strung out and sickly thin. He had wide enough shoulders, and like almost everyone else, he was much taller than her.

"Um, so no" she said as her good hand moved down her leg out of this guy's line of sight.

He had mentioned a knife trick, and that had caused Willow to reach down to feel the handle of the glass bladed calving knife she had hidden in the leg of her pressure suit. It was comforting to feel it under her fingers, and she peeled back the Velcro on the flap in case she needed to pull it.

"I just didn't, like move my arm out of the guiding frame in time you know? My own fault for messing around when I should be concentrating"
Kasumi Goto
"What are you trying to recruit her for? She's just a station worker here, you know."

"Er, like recruit me? I'm on sick leave, and like, I can't even deal with my lunch right now. Recruit me for what?

"Er, like recruit me? I'm on sick leave, and like, I can't even deal with my lunch right now. Recruit me for what?

"Good question. I'd like the man to answer it, too. Just overheard him in saying that.”

I decided to leave out the part where I distinctly recalled him rushing the bar with the willingness to shoot people over finding Creamy, to avoid further unsettling Willow, having learned how easy it was to scare her off unintentionally.

"I'm not too sure he's knocking at the right door for what he might be planning, anyway. Even if your arm wasn't broken. By the way, I can help you with that food if you'd like."

"Oo da fuck are you? Bar police?" Said Vodan pointing an accusing finger at the woman that had interrupted his interview.

"Make a habit of listening to other people's conversations and stickin ya nose in? Wait, ain't you the gobby cow that was monologuing while I had a shotty pointed at you?"

That was a rough day. Vodan had moved too quick after seeing Meowers and turned to his guns too soon. Even so, this dumb ass had trapped off as if she was indestructible.

"Hey, you know Owl-Eyes right?" he asked cheering up a bit "Where's she at?"

“I’m just trying to stop you from embarrassing yourself. This woman is not the person you want to recruit for a pirate operation.”, I calmly replied, keeping a casual stance.

“And yes, that was me. I don’t suppose you noticed that I was carrying a weapon and a shield at that time? This hood can hide more than one thing. I’m also not stupid enough to stand in front of a guy with a gun without something to stop it from shredding me.”

I pointed to the way the hood draped over my shoulders and back slightly, where I could easily conceal a weapon if I wanted. Right now, the only thing I carried was an openly visible sidearm.

“I’m not interested in starting a fight, though. You’re good in my book as long as you don’t point guns at everyone for Creamy again. Speaking of, where is he at?”

"Hey, you know Owl-Eyes right?" he asked cheering up a bit "Where's she at?"

“Uh… yeah… about that.”

I sighed, lowering my gaze.

“The simplest way to put it is that some asshole slaver decided he hadn’t ruined her life enough and took her to sell her off to Azimuth. Still looking for her. So you might need to give me a few more days before I have her back in here. And when I find her, I’ll also settle the score with that dumbass who thinks he can just take one of my friends and get away with it.”

The last sentence came out with a certain desire for revenge, accompanied by an according expression in my eyes.

Continued from The Docks

...Entering the bar, I spotted not just one, but two women in those gothic black garbs, and, well, I couldn't tell exactly, but that man nearby looked much like Vodan. At least the back of his long coat did. Luckily, they were in the middle of somewhat energetic conversation, though it was impossible for me to reach the bar counter without putting myself into it. So, I decided to withdraw from my old-school 'walking to the bar and ordering something verbally' habits for this time, sat down at a free table and ordered my classic vanilla coffee and vanilla cigarettes set via the remote terminal. Checking that my pistol was in its holster - of course it was there, but, you know, 'being totally sure' thing - I pulled the datapad from the pocket and opened the assignment details to refresh my memory, while peeking at that rowdy group at the bar now and then.

This had got interesting. Being on sick leave had just about been a sentence to solitary confinement. Now, a pirate and ninja were arguing over her.

This was a battle that had been blazing for millennia. Who was Willow to stop these ancient enemies setting a score older than the bubble?

Besides, she still had a minute ten on the Un-meat-able. Stepping back a little to be out of the firing line, Willow got ready to use the bank of vending machines as cove if something other than her dinner got heated.
31 Jul 2023, 10:47pm
There she was the hulking woman who had thrown a table at me my last visit to the bar some few months ago. Surprisingly enough she hadn't noticed me sitting by the door. Though I was hoping she wouldn't notice me or if she did hoped that she was willing to let go of the past.

Seeing things getting strange at the bar I proceed to the vending machines beside Willow.

'Stick close to the hulking woman over there she'll be the best bet for getting out of here alive if things hit the fan.'

I look at Meowers a look of well shit on my face.

'Hey uh no hard feelings about last time right? Would like it if you weren't throwing things at my head this go around.'

I still had intentions on taking advantage of the situation should it go awry to try and take Kira out and turn her in. A bounty is a bounty and half a billion is mighty good pickings.

"And when I find her, I’ll also settle the score with that dumbass who thinks he can just take one of my friends and get away with it.”

"Oh well, ain't you a badass! I'm soOOoo lucky you let me live. Gee-wizz I better watch my self around you, golly gosh!" said Vodan with his hands clasped under his chin, standing in a puddle of sarcasm.

"Some dick-wad taken my bar tart?" asked Vodan looking genuinely pissed off for a moment "Coms. Check with the fleet, a bar maid here has been taken by slavers. She an Imp-like with white hair, big eyes, hot as fuck. Probably had a rat thing with her. I'll get an image and name ASAP. If it's not one of ours, find out if anyone knows anything. Vodan out"

"Tell me what ya know and I'll see what our people know about it. Goid recovery systems are out of bounds to us, so I don't think it's our guys and we've learned that fucking with Citi isn't worth it"

Picking up the Jung, Vodan took some long gulps before bashing it down on the table with a breathless gasp of satisfaction.

"Can't tap that ass if someone else has got it now can I?"
31 Jul 2023, 10:57pm
“You can cut the sarcasm. It’s not really funny. And if you want to see me fight, you can come along next time I run into a creature nearly ten times my size.”

The bartender came over and placed my drinks.

“Thanks.”

I turned back to Vodan after taking a sip out of the juice.

“Anyway, I doubt it’s one of your guys. Whole different operation, and you definitely don’t want to have to deal with the guy who took her. He sounds… well, unpleasant, let’s just say. It also happened in Sol, not here.” I sighed. “I guess I should say thanks for the help, though. Even if it doesn’t end up leading anywhere.”

I sat down on one of the bar stools, not paying more attention to Meowers than a side eye in her direction, and didn’t bother to comment on the last remark left by Vodan. There wasn’t much else I had to say to him right now, anyway. And if he looked at Silvia in that way, he’d certainly catch on to my looks eventually, too.

Vodan"Can't tap that ass if someone else has got it now can I?"

That was it. That was the last straw. This man had crossed a line that even I couldn't let stand. I would take nicknames and the like but misogynistic fowl provocative thoughts about Silvia was enough to set me off. I lost control of my temper and launched myself full force at Vodan. A lightning quick punch meets the side of his face. A second equally quick left hook meets the lower left portion of his side. I grab him by the back of his jack and toss him to the ground. An electrical hum can be heard as the palm tazer charges up.

'Mind your fucking words.'

I grip Vodan by the throat and release the electrical charge.
31 Jul 2023, 11:08pm
I watched the individual that definitely was not Venus go berserk on Vodan, with a certain amused look, and decided to pick up my drinks to move aside, also throwing a glance at Willow.

“Might be a good moment to find a corner and observe the situation, you know?”

I moved back to the couch at the far back of the bar, placing both glasses on the table there, taking out the figurative popcorn in my head.
31 Jul 2023, 11:22pm
"Table 25, your order!", the bartender shouted, placing my coffee and cigarettes on the counter.

"Ah crap, looks like they're understaffed...", I muttered quietly, putting the datapad back into my pocket and getting up from the table. I guess there's no quiet observation anymore for me, I have to go and collect my order, and that means...

I couldn't remember who was that blue-haired woman until she literally reminded me. Anyway, even before I could muster a reply about not throwing furniture at people if they refrain from waving those toy guns, and about her faking her death, she got herself into some kind of trouble again, attacking Vodan. Right in front of my coffee cup that was waiting for me.

Oh, stars, this bar definitely looks like some kind of pub in a workers' settlement, more and more every month, and people come here to get hurt. Anyway, what else could I do? With that little fight starting right between me and my coffee, my only non-violent option was to come closer and wait until they settle down or move somewhere. There were dozens of quickier options for getting the coffee, but they all included punching, pushing, kicking or even shooting, so, this first one was my favourite for now.
31 Jul 2023, 11:33pm
That was a bit of a surprise, his world had flipped all on its own. Vodan focused on who was threatening him this time.

"Oh, its the nut-bar with the great rack. Hi mentalist"

Dealing with a combat monster like Creamy for years had prepared Vodan for a lot of situations, and only being hit a couple of times and thrown to the floor was like baby kisses in comparison. Creamy would have fractured his jaw knocking Vodan cold, and broken his leg.. again.. to make sure he didn't get up.

Another thing Vodan had ready was quick launch weapons. The punch dagger he'd pulled on Meowers in the right-hand launcher, and his own taser he had in the left sleeve for Creamy.

"Listen, if we're gonna do it here, you need to get on your back, coz I don't fuck up" said Vodan swing him self up with a groan. He wasn't as young as he used to be.

"So, you coming to help find ya wife? I'm down for a threesome" he said with a smile "And that's the last freebie you get Baby Face. I haven't forgotten the baiting last time I was here"

Noticing a tall figure looming up behind baby-face, Vodan was hoping it was Bell, but it was someone better.

"Oh hi Meowers, been looking for you"
31 Jul 2023, 11:43pm
Being forgotten was something that used to piss Willow off, but right now, it was working out for the best.

Without leaving the safety of her cover, Willow reached out for the Un-meat-able that had been ejected now it was ready. Grabbing it, she scuttled over to the table with the ninja, and put her Un-meat-able down nudging it to the person that had offered to open it for her.

Keeping here eyes on the entertainment, Willow sat down, and used her teeth and one good hand to deal with the plastic wrapper on her spork.
31 Jul 2023, 11:45pm
'That's enough from you. You disgusting worm like Tart.'

I deliver a full force kick straight up between Vodans legs. The force behind the kick was the same as if a linebacker had just blindsided someone at full speed. I plant my foot and launch forward again throwing a knee directly into the middle of Vodans chest with so much force I was sure I heard a rib or two pop.

'You will mind your fucking tongue!'

I swing around and take step forward and directly into Meowers.

'Ah fuck'
