General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Kasumi GotoOne of the bartenders came over to me after a while, prompting me to look up again. I recognized them as the one who asked about Silvia earlier.

“So, what’s up with you and Silvia?”, they asked me. “Something’s got to have gone down between you two if you’re here, but she’s not.”

I rolled my eyes, then looked up and answered in an annoyed tone.

“If I wanted to talk about it, I would have. And I don’t care if her boss wants her here to work just because the position isn’t covered by that guy who has a troubled past with pirates. That’s all I’m going to say.”

I looked back down to my wrist computer, using it to look up whichever news I potentially missed while being gone, not suspecting the exchange to draw much attention. The staff member quickly returned to their previous task, removing the food box I’d left behind from the table.

That was enough to pique my interest. I pick my head up off the wall and glare at the bartender asking questions. I divert my gaze to the strange chick wearing a hood covering most of her face. The dark shadow making hard to see anything. I pull out a flash light and shine it briefly on her face and catch a glimpse of someone familiar.

"No fucking way." I think to myself as I pick up my glass of wine and finish the last of it.

I stand and proceed very cautiously towards the woman. As I approach I grab a chair and spin it backwards promptly sitting in it staring directly at the woman.

'You uh.. might want to not act so damn suspicious. Especially since you have a massive target on your back. Though I assume you know about it already given the fact you still show your face in public.'

I take a final drag from my cigarette and ash it out on the bottom of my boot. Then in a more serious tone and very much so assertively I ask about Silvia. My voice only just audible enough for the 2 of us to hear ensuring to use my American accent over my imperial one.

'Where the fuck is Silvia? You have 1 chance to answer me truthfully. No questions just answer.'

"A target on my back, says who? You'll have to be more specific about that. There's more than one person out there that has an issue with me. And I don't know who the fuck you are, anyway."

I'd kept my voice equally low, not bothering to hide the Japanese accent, and provided a light look to tell her to play into it, but also not mention anything else.

"And if I knew where the ..." I held my tongue back slightly. "You'll have to forgive me for being pissed, because some slaver asshole took her from right under my nose, and I don't know where the fuck that idiot went. If I did, I wouldn't be sitting here like a lost dog. All I found is that they're planning to sell her off to someone who really shouldn't have their hands on her. Azimuth, to be precise. And those fucks are going to mess her up worse than that asshole ever did. Since you seem to know who I am, I don't need to tell you that I know from experience."

I paused for a second.

"Now that you have your answer, would you mind telling me who you are to have an interest in her?"

My eyes fell on the Duval insignia on the pendant the woman wore, giving me some idea who I might be dealing with, but I decided not to say anything about it. Or remark on her trying to assert dominance on someone who really didn't like to be.

"And don't shine a light right into my eyes again. They're already pretty damn sensitive to it as it is."

'He fucking what?!'

I growl out in an over the top angry tone. A deep seeded hatred can be seen in my eyes as I stand from the chair and toss it to the side, with enough force to shatter it against the wall, though showing no signs of effort required to produce that level of force.

'The same bastards that he is bringing her to, want you brought in alive. I have half a mind to bring you there myself and end that bastard pig!'

'You... you let this happen!'

I take a step forward aggressively, a strange almost inhuman rage burning in my eyes and each of my words fills with spite and hatred.

'Who I am doesn't matter right now. All that matters is that you tell me everything right this instant or so help me I will take out all of this unbridled rage on you!'

My knuckles are white from how tightly I am clenching my fists and the snarl on my face is enough to make anyone think twice about crossing me at this stage.

“I told you what I could. That bastard sent someone to take us in the middle of the night, took all three of us out with some strong-ass sedatives, but that kidnapper just decided to leave me there instead of taking me as well, running off with just her and her pet. Sounds like someone who has a past with Silvia too, name being Jules.”

I crossed my arms, not too impressed by the woman going half-insane at the mere mention of an individual.

“And I only know that they’re planning to take her to their primary research facility, which I know fuck all as to where it is. Nor do I have a clue where Diaz’ carrier is. The only lead I got is their primary research site, because Silvia’s brother ratted her out, and I beat it out of him. You want what I know, ask that idiot. He’s still on Earth, for all I know.”

“Also, I don’t know who put that bullshit about Azimuth trying to get me in into your head. You’re thinking of someone else. And I’m not looking to start a fight over a false impression. I’ll damn well help you look for Diaz if that’s what you want, though. He made it fucking personal now.”
29 Jul 2023, 11:46pm
'Faces don't lie sweetheart.'

I pull out the my data pad and open up the folder for bounties and press on the one for a Kira Goto. I toss the data pad down on the table.

'Go ahead and tell my I don't know what I'm talking about. Tell me how the fuck a bounty hunter wouldn't know how to identify a bounty.'

I reach down and grab the woman's arm and expose the very significant and identifiable brand on her wrist. My grip and strength is disturbing. For being a seemingly unaugmented person it's undeniable I am stronger than I appear.

'As for fucking Diaz I have a reason beyond any other to despise him. As for Jackson you did kill him right? Traitors deserve to die!'

I realize how terrified some of the bar staff appear and try to reign in my anger though it's not nearly enough to stifle it fully.

'Don't know this Jules person you speak of outside of her having been the one to tell me where Diaz was hiding out in......'
29 Jul 2023, 11:58pm
I stood up and pulled my arm right out of her grip without effort, which also let the suit sleeve slip over the remnant of the ink-branding, while making no illusions about the fact that I was not at this woman’s mercy. Even without augmentations, my baseline strength would have been sufficient to pull myself free with ease.

“You don’t know what you’re playing with. That’s going to be my only warning with that bounty, and she won’t come in easily if you do try.”

I ignored the datapad from that point, and started directly into the woman’s eyes, not hiding the annoyed expression on mine in the slightest.

“I broke his nose, and knocked him out cold. I don’t kill without reason, but he got me close to that point. If he hasn’t learned his lesson yet, I don’t care what you or anyone else does with him afterward. And if you want Diaz, maybe you shouldn’t be pissing off the one other person that has one very good reason to make that man regret ever existing.”

I paused for a moment.

“We both want the same thing, and I also want my friend back. I suppose you could say the same thing for your wife, unless you still want her to think you’re dead.”

I couldn’t quite help but make that remark, if just to let on that I wasn’t completely oblivious to the clues presented to me here.
30 Jul 2023, 12:11am
'He deserved death. Letting him live only lets more innocent bystanders fall pretty to his crimes.'

My eyes widen at the mention of being Silvia's wife though I play it off easily hiding the truth.

'Wife? You must have me confused with someone else entirely. I am merely a bounty hunter and honestly you aren't worth the credits in that profile. Nothing special about you. All you are is a tool. Something to be used. Then when your usefulness is up tossed in the garbage.'

My tone is extremely vindictive in nature each word filled with a venomous intent. A cruel smirk forms on my face as I lay my snare hoping to get an emotional response from Kira.
30 Jul 2023, 12:41am
“Easy for you to pretend to be someone else, while claiming that I’m the person on that bounty profile without much proof other than vague resemblance. Especially since you seem to be very invested in Silvia’s well-being.”

I pretended to look at the profile again.

“Well, maybe more than vague, but I hear bounty hunters tend to value their appearance, rather than jump the gun on someone that might be their target, or could be someone completely unrelated, but still with reasons to not give away who they are freely.”

I gave the woman pretending to not be Venus a look saying ‘Nice try, but I’m not biting’. I certainly wanted to snap back at the remark, but had enough control to keep the instinct suppressed.

“And if you want to deal with Jackson, I’m not gonna stop you. I did let him know he deserved worse than what I did to him, but you can also explain it to Silvia if she wants to know why he’s dead.”

I sighed.

“Don’t much care about him, anyway. That fool got what he deserved by trying to cut a deal with a snake. That Grenshaw guy shot his ship right out of the sky once he’d told them where Silvia was, and I’m more interested in finding them, than to get stuck up on an idiot who should’ve known better than to rat out his family. And I’ll definitely have a word with that Jules when I see her again.”

I decided to leave out the part where it seemed like she and Silvia had a thing going at some point, seeing how this woman was very easily upset about anything regarding her very probably former lover.
30 Jul 2023, 1:09am
'I'm not pretending to be anyone but myself. Silvia stole my ship and I want it back. Diaz is a sleazy crime lord I have been hunting for months, and you are very clearly this target.'

In a flash I rip Kira's hood from her head exposing her face fully and getting a real clear look.

'Try and deny it all you want but I know my target when I see them. It's kind of my whole thing. I was willing to let you go buy now.... you go back to sleep.'

I pull out a very familiar sedative pen and jam it into Kira's side, much faster than she would have even thought possible. A strange hum can be heard as I move. Knowing it would take some time to kick in I create distance between myself and Kira and prepare myself for whatever may come next.
30 Jul 2023, 1:49am
I quickly pulled my hood back up and immediately felt my implant react to the new substance in my bloodstream to neutralize it, not that I knew how it would, or the degree of effectiveness that would have.

But that didn’t matter now, as I followed the audacious woman and stopped her by the neck with my left hand before she could even reach the entrance.

“I warned you not to piss me off, bitch.”

My next move saw her thrown into a pillar near the far wall of the bar, where I caught up to her and removed a pretty obvious knife from her belt, tossing it to the bar counter.

“Hold that for me while I deal with this nuisance.”, I told the bartender, then turned my head to Venus again, pinning her to the pillar with inhuman strength. “You’re not going anywhere, Venus Duval. Silvia told me enough about the reckless shithead that you turned into when Diaz first kidnapped her, and you damn well know she’s the only one who has access to your ships as well.”

I let the unveiled secret float around the room for a few seconds before I continued.

“I would’ve helped you find that asshat and make him pay his dues, but it seems like you’re so stuck up about yourself that you forget he already nearly killed you, and yet still think you can take him on alone. And you’re welcome for telling everyone who you really are. Now start behaving before I call the entire station’s security on your ass.”
30 Jul 2023, 2:29am
My face relaxes for a brief moment before a crazed smile spreads across my face. I reach up with my left hand and grab Kira's wrist with a surprisingly firm grip. I let out a small laugh and send a jolt of electricity through Kira's arm.

Kira reels back releasing her grip on my throat and I rush in delivering several quick blows to various regions of her body. A small hum can be heard again, though this time I discharge the electrical current as soon as the hum stops, delivering 80k volts of electricity. Kira again reels back from the jolt but very quickly recovers as if something was absorbing the voltage. I throw a powerful right punch to the lower portion of Kira's ribs. The impact has enough force to knock the wind out of her briefly but she recovers much quicker than humanly possible. These observations cause me to pause.

'For the record he didn't almost kill me single handedly. You try exchanging gun fire between 12 men then rushing into a fight with a man well outside your weight class. You are nothing compared to him. Your body has limits, his does not. But if you hit him with just enough voltage he will drop like a rock.'

I relax myself seeing the resilience of this woman and getting a better understanding of what she is capable of.

'Let's make a compromise. I'll help you find him so long as you keep everything you know about me silent. You are tough I'll give you that. Though I suspect that is due to the Thargoid shit you've got going on.'
30 Jul 2023, 2:43am
I let my breath recover for a moment, shaking my right arm to remove some of the tension from its muscles.

"I was almost getting worried you didn't know how to fight.", I said, unable to help myself in teasing her some, given the attempt to sedate me. "Fine. I'll stay quiet. Not like I have anything to gain by telling the world who you are, but I expect you to do the same for me. I've got enough trouble without half of human society trying to hunt me down for a juicy bounty. And 'being different'."

I backed off from Venus.

"And it's not just what's in my body right now. Long story behind that, but... let's just say, I would have hardly qualified as an average human even before I got messed with in ways I don't understand myself. As for Diaz, I don't suppose he'll tank hypersonic railgun projectiles? If the answer is no, he'll be disposed of. Don't care how or what it takes, he is going to die. And I'll make sure whatever fancy backups he's got burn along with him."

I was about to turn away, when I recalled something.

"And if you're gonna be there too, leave that 'Jules' alive if you can. I want to deal with her myself."

Deciding to wait for the response, I gestured to the bartender to calm down, now that the tension had been settled, but still carefully watched the other woman. Trust was not what I had in her, certainly not by this point.

'No! You kill him with your bare hands. Let him see you take his life.'

I let out a slight sigh and look around the bar.

'I said I'd help you find him. I didn't say I was joining you.'

I walk over to the table with my wine bottle and pour another glass of wine and take a seat. I pull out a cigarette and light it. I let the sweet flavored smoke fill my lungs before exhaling and blowing it out the doorway.

'Name isn't Venus though. It's Jenna.'

Jenna Marquez'No! You kill him with your bare hands. Let him see you take his life.'

“I never said I would do it silently and from afar. When I have him done for, I’m going to make him watch on his knees as I charge up a shot, just before I splatter his brains all over his precious carrier. Then I’ll let the whole thing burn up in a star… if I have that option.”

I decided to not go down that thought train further.

“Whatever. And it’s Kasumi. Usually pleasant, if I’m not pissed about some slaver asshole that has to keep ruining someone’s life kidnapping one of the few friends that I have.”

I leaned against the pillar, looking around to make sure that no one was still actively listening in, not that it would necessarily tell me if they were a spy for Azimuth, or Diaz. The other strange, hooded individual was also still present and keenly observing me, but I still couldn’t discern why, or what made them look familiar.
30 Jul 2023, 3:32am
'Start in 69 G Carinae. His outpost is on C 5 A. Gardner Point. Though I'm sure you could head to T Tauri and find him there. Azimuth headquarters.'

I take another drag from my cigarette and take a sip of wine. I close my eyes and lean back against the wall.

'Don't let the fox die.'

The last words are eerie and a deep sense of warning can be felt with them.
