General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Willow ThornBeing forgotten was something that used to piss Willow off, but right now, it was working out for the best.

Without leaving the safety of her cover, Willow reached out for the Un-meat-able that had been ejected now it was ready. Grabbing it, she scuttled over to the table with the ninja, and put her Un-meat-able down nudging it to the person that had offered to open it for her.

Keeping here eyes on the entertainment, Willow sat down, and used her teeth and one good hand to deal with the plastic wrapper on her spork.

I opened up the box of food and moved it back over to Willow.

"You need help opening anything else, shoot."

I held the cover of the box in my hands, inspecting it.

"Un-meat-able? Who came up with that pun of a name?", I asked to no one in particular, and put it down. "What's in that stuff anyway? Keep seeing it in vending machines a little all over, but never felt like trying it."

I knew I could just read the ingredients on it, rather than asking, but it didn't quite feel right to just awkwardly sit opposite of one another, and not have anything to talk. Especially since I hadn't planned anything to say for this, though the current daily catfight in the bar certainly provided some free entertainment to go with.

Jenna MarquezI swing around and take step forward and directly into Meowers.

'Ah fuck'
"Ah fuck", I replied, trying to get the same tone, but that obviously was a parody, as my eyes, instead of looking surprised, moved left to right from Venus' face right in front of me to Vodan behind her on the floor, and back, since the target that interested me the most now, my order at the bar, has been completely blocked by Venus.

"I thought you're... Dead. And Silv thought you're dead. What's that all about?... Ah, I guess that's none of my business anyway."

Having the box forced into his groin was uncomfortable, and the trauma plates in his armor snapped back into place with a crack after the kick. He felt he should get a holo-drone warning women that hitting him with their girl-strength was pretty pointless now.

"I fucking warned you" growled Vodan.

His instinct was to go for his shotties, but Meowers was in the firing line now. Instead, now baby face had turned around, he took a big handful of the woman's blue hair, kicked her legs out from under her and bounced her skull off the vending machine a couple of times.

Holding her up by the hair, he put his boot on her admittedly nice arse, and let the low gravity assist his shove sending the nutty woman down the row of machines.

"Fuck with me again, and you get all four barrels, you mental bitch" said Vodan unlocking his shot guns.

"Ok, where was I?"

"Oh, you know, like, vat grown stuff that can survive the radioactive hell that is space" answered Willow watching the fight dispassionately.

Fishing around in her kidney pocket, Willow retrieved a glass bottle containing the tar like extract.

"So like, would you mind unscrewing this. Oh, umm, please, I mean. It's got like a rod on the underside of the lid, so like, careful not to snap it please"

She passed the bottle over still watching.

"Ok, who is the raider guy, and why are you and the mad one pissed at him?"

The sight of people, who both once tried to intimidate me using weapons, now fighting against each other, was enough for me to allow a smirk appear on my face. Using a brief moment when nothing obstructed my way to the bar, I took my coffee and cigarettes and retreated to the table, still close enough, but with one free table between me and the counter. Just in case.

Two women in the far corner looked familiar, and, for a moment, I thought that I'd better join them instead of being so close to insane people again; but, yeah, now I have things to ask, things that could be important for people I call my friends. Like, why Venus is pretending to be dead, and where the hell Vodan had left Creamy. If only these two weren't fighting each other right now.

"Ok, who is the raider guy, and why are you and the mad one pissed at him?"

“I don’t really remember his name, but he kinda just waltzed into the bar one day and started pointing guns at everyone looking for that Creamy guy. Some history with them screwing over a pirate lord a few years back. The angry guy lost his post after that, apparently. He’s less cranky now, and is still alive, so I guess he got it back somehow. Still not a fan of him, but that’s not personal. Just don’t like pirates.”

I carefully opened the bottle of what looked like hot sauce, and passed it over.

“As for the crazy woman, well, she really has something going for Silvia. Told me not to talk about it much, though. I have a feeling they’ve got a bit of a… history, if you get what I mean. I mean the smaller one, not, well, her.”

I glanced over to Meowers, who could probably have qualified as a male bodybuilder, if not for the distinctive body features of the female body.

“Anyway, guess I shouldn’t judge for the food. I eat the prefab stuff, or I guess pre-packed, more than I do the ‘normal’ stuff. Usually spend more time on my ships than stations.”

I looked over to the catfight between ‘Jenna’ and Vodan for a second, seeing him pose as if he’d just defeated a big game animal in a hunt. The situation lightly amused me, mostly because it kept her away, and not so much thinking about the bounty, but also hopefully served as a lesson on restraint.

Vodan"Fuck with me again, and you get all four barrels, you mental bitch" said Vodan unlocking his shot guns.

Picking myself of from the floor seemingly unfazed by just being tossed across the bar a crazed smile forms on my face. A solid blue hue erupts from the shield generator on my suit.

'Those shotties won't do more than tickle a milspec shield bucko.'

I dust off my shoulder and crack my neck the distance between myself and Vodan was enough to prevent a decent hand to hand assault and an assisted launch would put my velocity too high if he dodged. Clearly the voltage from the palm tazer was abosorbed.

"Hmm earthed boots got it. Felt a metal frame under that coat though. Gah. Fuck it, can't be resistant to narcotics."

The thoughts are brief and I reach down and grab a tranq pen. I launch myself forward at a surprising rate and as predicted Vodan shifts out of the way but a quick outwards jab was all I needed. The pen in my hand makes contact and a activate my mag boots planting my foot firmly and ignite my booster pack at a low power to correct my velocity and taking Vodan straight over the bar. As we hit the ground I throw my right fist into his face hard enough to hear a cracking sound as the full force of the impact causes his head to bounce off the bar floor.

'Do not fuck with me you stupid fuck. Move and you will die.'

Vasil set his bourbon on the bar. "Not even two drinks," he mused, tapping the pay pad on the bar, then looked to the bartender. "I actually thought I might get through three before there were any broken bones or bloody noses." The bartender shrugged, having become numb to the violence that seemed to wash through the bar like waves on a beach. "And that," he said, adding a sizable tip, "is for others inconveniencing you with their hooliganism." Vasil made sure to give the scufflers a wide berth as he left.

There's only one thing I liked about that crazy fight: my own timings were precise enough to grab my order before those two went over the bar, almost hitting the poor bartender who barely managed to get out of the way. Surely, running a bar understaffed and without a proper security, in those turbulent times, on a station which was under repair and therefore lacked the usual crowds and services, security again... Wasn't exactly a pleasant work.

"Khm...", I spoke quietly, approaching two women in black clothes in the corner. Noticed that one of them had a broken arm. "Would you mind if I join?"

"Thought, like... You two look familiar. And having this", I showed a cup of coffee, "certainly beats having this". A slight nod towards the fight, with a raised eyebrow, should've been enough to emphasise the lack of common sense in what was happening at the bar, at least I guessed so.

"No worries if you don't want any strangers around, though."
01 Aug 2023, 1:22am
“Fine by me. We, and by that I mean me, only met when the guy with his trench coat waltzed in and pointed guns at everyone.”, I said, then looked to Willow. “You?”

I felt rather uncomfortable at knowing that ‘definitely-not-Venus’ still likely had her eye on me for the bounty, not wanting to drag Willow into my own mess. Having Meowers - whose actual name also had slipped my mind again - around would also be a reassurance to not have that occur at a terrible moment.

I still pondered the thought of whether Willow suspected anything about who I was, or whether I should be more straightforward about it. Our last proper interaction had gone awry when I did so, making me hesitant to do the same again.

Being certain Vodan had learned not all women are as weak as they seem I stand up and hop over the bar. I brush myself off and realize just exactly what I had done.

'Fuck.'

I look around the bar and see terrified staff and a mess. Knowing that the majority of the staff of station right now were imperial commissions I pick up some of the glass and items that had been strewn about. I was still very livid about Vodan and his comments about Silvia. I realize there is some level of disgusting creatures out there but to think you have to right to a woman just because she looks good is vile.

I look to Meowers and the two others in the corner. My face says please don't hurt me. I hand off the items I had picked up to one of the staff who had come over with a bussing bucket.

'I am truly sorry about the mess. Your employer will find the appropriate compensation in the account.'

I walk over and grab my bottle of wine and my glass. Then proceed to the three women. I am cautious to approach as I had just proven to be a relatively loose cannon.

'Hey I uh don't suppose you would care for a glass of wine? Forgive me for.... uh... that... I don't take kindly to misogyny.'
01 Aug 2023, 2:23am
"Thank you", I replied to one of the women. "Yeah, I remember now. That life loves a good irony, I'd say, both of them tried to point guns at me for heck knows what reason, and now they fight each other."

Then, realising that woman in the black was looking at something or someone behind my back, I turned my head and saw Venus approaching with a bottle of wine. And now, having more time to look at her, I figured out why I haven't even recognised her for the first time, until she blurted about that table accident. No, not the general 'I'm bad with names and faces, but good with events', but... Everything about her look was different. Back then, she was looking like a stressed Imperial lady, then like a stressed Imperial lady wearing jewelry worth a month of AX wing maintenance, then like a stressed Imperial lady awkwardly trying to scare me with over the counter civilian toy guns. Now, not just her outfit, but even something in her behaviour screamed 'experienced mercenary'.

"Uh. Speak of the devil", I addressed to her. "So, if that's what started the fight, I'd say well done. You may want to wash your hands after touching that... person. Anyway...", I looked at two women at the table again, "...it's up for them to decide. I'm a stranger here as well. If they have something private going on or just want to keep their distance from... events, it's their rightful choice."

I provided my initial answer by moving away from Venus and closer to Willow, providing the former with a distrustful look, while ensuring I hadn’t misplaced or lost my pistol on my right thigh.

“Keep the wine. I don’t drink anyway. And considering that you attacked me for something that I had no way to prevent yesterday, I’m not too inclined to talk to you at all right now.”

I didn’t much care whether she handed it out to the others, but I certainly wouldn’t take anything from this woman, given her likely intentions toward me once I had disposed of Diaz for her, and returned Silvia, or to use me as a negotiation token toward Azimuth.

'It was something along those lines. And uh ya I suppose some other explanations are in order.'

I say slipping back into my imperial accent. It was pointless trying to hide my identity any further as enough people recognized who I was at this point.

'Not dead, never was.... I uh well that requires something much stronger than this wine and much more time than I have.'

'I did some questionable things when we had last met. And uh for the record I wasn't aiming at you I just so happened to uhm well..... kill a few people whom I though had bounties didn't care to check the registry and they ended up being innocent and then I blew up my cutter.'

I grab a seat nearby and pour a glass of the red wine. I take a sip and pull out a mint chocolate cigarette.

'Silvia does indeed think me dead... in fact most of the bubble thinks that. Makes things easier for me to get around. I hate that the Royal family is so willing to kill a member to save face so please from now forward just refer to me as Jenna.'

I simply crossed my arms while hearing Venus explain herself, caring little for her excuses, and moved even further from her. She was, in my view, simply building up false trust to catch the others off-guard when trying to make a move on me.

I didn’t even want her here, and cared little to hide the disdain on my face, but she just invited herself anyway. All I cared was to talk with Willow now that I actually had the opportunity, in a mostly care-free environment, though I had no problems with tolerating Meowers.
