General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Willow felt like she was in the way now. Even if she did want to get involved with a slaver chase, she couldn't fly her ship with one arm. Any way, crossing paths with a carrier full of people that are cool with slavery would bring Alice out to play, and that held more fear for her than a carrier full of killers.

Nodding to Meowers and Kasumi, Willow stopped by the vending machines to pick up some more BBQ Un-meat-abel in case someone got them before she could.

Meowers Turning my head to look at Kasumi, I waited for the eye contact and nodded towards the door.

I watched Willow move off toward the vending machine to pick up more meat, then started talking.

“So let me just ask something… why’s everyone think I’m rushing off to go after Silvia already? I never said that’s what I’m doing. Don’t even know where to find her, so it’d be pointless.”

I still held my plan to investigate the Dedicant to myself, not thinking it really mattered whether I went there alone or not.

“And I’m not dumb. It’d be a lot easier with backup, but some two or three pilots aren’t going to make much of a difference to one. And you can forget me even thinking about taking help from a pirate.”

I allowed my disdain for their kind to come out more in that last word, now that no one who risked getting offended by it was around, then followed Meower’s gesture toward the door.

“If you want to find a place less exposed, go right ahead, and I’ll come along. But no tricks, understood?”

Part of me still felt like just figuring out things through my way, instead of dealing with working around human nonsense to get some kind of assault force going. At least, with the other kind of backup I could bring along, I knew exactly when they would and wouldn’t try to shoot me down. And their appearance would lead to a lot of unwanted questions if I also had human pilots along.

As I enter the bar once again bloodstains on my boots and the distinct smell of burnt metal on my clothes as well as the strong odor of industrial grade chemical agents, surrounds me. The look in my eyes says that I have been fruitful in my endeavors, though it also seems as though there is now an innate level of evil in my body language. My intentions are not violent as I enter the bar but others may not view me that way based off how I am carrying myself.

'I know where that bastard slaver scum is. The hand off isn't for another week, which gives us time. Though I suspect Diaz is going to be expecting people to show up on his doorstep.'

I nearly crash into Willow as I stride past her and proceed to the bar.

'Sorry miss. Didn't say it before but you have a very striking vibe going on.'

I order a drink and take a seat near the door again. Taking the time to think about what was just told to me by the Administrator.

Taking a quick step back to avoid a bump with the blue meanie, a four stack of uncooked BBQ Un-meat-abel packs slipped out of Willows good arm. She made a grab to catch them. As the cast covering her crushed limb pressed against the sling, her arm exploded in pain.

"Arrgh! For fuck sake!"

Falling to her knees, Willow squeezed the top of her bad arm trying to stop the pain shooting all the way to the back of her head.

Kasumi Goto“If you want to find a place less exposed, go right ahead, and I’ll come along. But no tricks, understood?”
"Yeah, sure", I nodded, made a few steps towards the door, thinking about hangars and Marshmallow as our possible destination, and then saw Jenna rushing in with somewhat predaceous smirk on her face. Then she started talking.

Jenna Marquez'I know where that bastard slaver scum is. The hand off isn't for another week, which gives us time. Though I suspect Diaz is going to be expecting people to show up on his doorstep.'
I made a 'stop' gesture with my right hand and turned to Kasumi.

"Hm. Looks like we'd better listen to that first. It may change something in possible plans."

Then, seeing that obvious snack pack accident, I walked closer to Willow leaned towards her. "Ow. May I help you with something?"
Sadly, my daily mini-medkit didn't have any painkillers strong enough to deal with broken limb pain, only something effective for a common headache.

'Ah shit. I'm sorry. This will help with the pain if you'll allow it.'

I pull out a pain inhibitor from the med pouch on my hip. I had been in Willows state many times and the level of pain she was likely feeling was immense. I kneel down beside Willow and allow her to see the label on the item I had referred to.

'It is a mild sedative to alleviate the pain. It's not nearly enough to knock you out but I promise you it will help. I'm not here to cause trouble.'

I collect up the un-meat-ables from the floor and stack them on the counter, leaving the pain inhibitor on the floor in front of Willow to allow her to use it on her own.
02 Aug 2023, 7:09pm
“Well, you look like you had some fun.”, I remarked to ‘Jenna’, but didn’t talk to her further.

Meowers
I made a 'stop' gesture with my right hand and turned to Kasumi.

"Hm. Looks like we'd better listen to that first. It may change something in possible plans."

“Fine. Whatever. Not like I’m in a rush or anything anyway.”

I observed the unfolding situation with Willow carefully, currently deeming it unnecessary to intervene due to the others around.

“If you need something stronger for pain, just ask.”, I chose to say anyway. “I’ve got some real shitty headaches sometimes, so I usually carry something that carries an according kick.”

Part of me thought that could be misinterpreted, and chose to add to the statement.

“I mean, just a pretty serious painkiller. Might make your head turn a little for a few minutes, though.”
02 Aug 2023, 7:24pm
'Hmm I wonder why?' I remark sarcastically.

'No offence hood but I don't think your meds would do her any good here. She is human and I highly doubt something tailored to whatever you are is suitable for someone considered normal.'

The words come out with a hint of a venomous tone. The fact that Kira would even offer a painkiller designed to knock down the level of pain from alien tech to a human was worisome. That kind of drug would likely cause some severe side effects if not administered carefully. At least the pain inhibitors i carried were suitable for battlefield trauma, and designed to keep a soldier in the fight.

'You sure sound awfully annoyed for someone with a bunch to do but provide no explanation'
02 Aug 2023, 7:30pm
“You could stop being a bitch for a minute. I use the same painkillers that everyone else does - this is just high-grade stuff. No different to what you gave her, only stronger.”

With that misconception corrected, I stopped holding my tone back.

“And you need to watch yourself. I AM human, whether you like it or not. I could easily have split your skull open a day ago, but I decided not to. And for her sake - “ I pointed to Willow. “- I’m not going to punch the lesson that you deserve into your head, as much as I want to. Wasn’t getting hit with a dozen stun projectiles just an hour ago enough?”

I shook my head.

“Keep that attitude up when Silvia is back, and you might make her reconsider certain things about you. And I don’t have any obligation to tell you what I do with my time, especially if it’s not life-threatening.”
02 Aug 2023, 7:42pm
"Yep... She's right", I addressed to Jenna. "We may be totally different, but we two are Silvia's friends, and you're her wife. I guess jeopardising our capacity to cooperate and find her by making stingy comments isn't exactly... The right idea at the moment."

"But...", I raised an eyebrow and looked at Kasumi. "What makes you stress out that you're human? You aren't looking... Too cyborg'ish. At least from what I can see from here."
02 Aug 2023, 7:49pm
'HA! You think Silvia doesn't know this side of me? You think I am only doing this because she isn't around. Say what you like but you are not human! You. Are a traitor to the human race! You really think it would be so easy to split my head open? Then bring it on. Try explaining to Silvia how you were the one who actually killed me. I can guarantee you would meet an untimely demise due to your arrogance. I know I'm not the strongest person out there you seem to need that lesson taught to you!'

Kasumi was getting on my nerves and rightfully so. I didn't care if she appeared human in nature the fact that she was infused with Thargoid technology made me irate.

'You talk about being high and mighty but look at you. You think you can take on the universe by yourself! I know this man. I know his operation. I brought it down once and I'll do it again. I don't fight alone not ever, and if you ever actually sat down with Silvia you would know that I don't let anyone fight alone! You know next to nothing about me. I know enough about you to form a very clear picture that I will never like you. You deserve to rot in the depths of space along side your disgusting Thargoid buddies!'

I turn back to Willow and sigh.

'I am sorry I caused you any pain. It was not my intention. Please forgive me.'

'She hulk.. sorry I dont exactly recall you ever telling me your name. You are right bickering wont do us any good but, she..' Points an acusing finger at Kasumi. 'had better come clean to all of you right this instant.'
02 Aug 2023, 7:51pm
“A problem that’s entirely my own, and that I won’t talk about here. Too many eyes and ears for the wrong people to get information.”

I threw a somewhat hateful look toward Jenna.

“Some of them are also very prejudicial about it. Another reason I’m not going out about it openly. I’ll tell you when we get a moment with no one else around.”

My intention was to come clean about it when I’d tell Meowers about the mess with Silvia properly, if I even got a moment to do so at all prior to my departure.

Jenna Marquez I know enough about you to form a very clear picture that I will never like you. You deserve to rot in the depths of space along side your disgusting Thargoid buddies!'

That was it. The woman wanted me to blow a fuse, but I didn’t care. I moved toward her at an unexpected speed and took her neck, then sent her flying right out of the bar, well out into the markets, landing in an open area with no atalls or people around. She’d survive it, of course, but a demonstration was well overdue.

“Fucking asshole. Can we leave now? I’m done dealing with that bitch. Explanations come later.”

'Fine you want to dance lets dance hooded joker.' I thought to myself picking myself up from the ground only receiving a small bumps here and there.

I draw out my pistol and swap out the magazine for stun rounds. Each round filled with a dose of narcotics. Of which overdose was very likely if not monitored properly approximately 12 rounds for an above average human. I aim and fire 8 rounds in quick succession each one striking its target perfectly. I prepare for the on coming assault by activating my mag boots and placing myself into a shield brace position. In my left hand which is now behind my back I hold a very powerful sedative that I fully intend to use on Kira.

'Bring it Thargoid whore!'

There was less testosterone in the room when the raider and bounty Hunter were still here. Those guys were more reasonable too. If it wasn't for the nice AX pilot, the other two would have regressed to ape men, and changed sex before bashing each other to death with clubs.

Now the bright lights had stopped flashing in her head, Willow took the painkiller in her teeth, and picked up the stack of boxes. She crept out before the blue meanie and ninja got to comparing dick sizes.
02 Aug 2023, 8:09pm
“Seriously?”

I didn’t bother to move and crossed my arms, triggering my shield generator for good measure. The implant, now knowing what it was dealing with, worked a lot better at preventing sedatives from taking effect. At best, I was now annoyed again.

“For someone who thinks they have the moral high ground, you’re very loud about being a xenophobic asshole. And might I remind you I’m standing next to a woman that’s nearly twice your size?”

I tapped on my wrist computer.

“You’ve got a minute before security decides to show up and figure out why you’re still pissing people off for no reason. If you don’t want to rescue Silvia alone, maybe you’ll want to stop being a complete bitch and talk.”
