General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

'You relax. Not worth my time. Besides you'd be a better bounty take by surprise. Not that I'm all that interested in you other than to get a location that might bring me closer to finding Silvia.'

I grab my wine a toss a holo disk on Kira's table.

'I hope your recent escapades at Gardner Point were fruitful. Also way to put a target on your back. They know your ship now. Ya I had an agent in there. Managed to survive by hiding out in a crate.'

I hoped my statement was enough to let her know she was careless.

'May not have got a name but a ship ID is just as good. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Diaz will likely know who you are now and will more than certainly be sending a couple goons to the station. Good job space ninja.'

I walk over to the door and lean against the door frame. I take a swig from the bottle of wine then place it on the table. I take a long drag from my cigarette and exhale slowly.

Phah. Bounty hunters. Thing I figured out a long ago, during my anti-corporate days, is that bounties are being widely used for disposing of anybody who was 'bad for business' or 'against the law', and those hunters pay little attention to why bounties were placed and by whom, making that system an ideal tool for those in power to impose and extend their power whilst keeping hands clean. Hordes of bounty hunters, of various skill levels, were always ready to hound anyone marked 'red', 'wanted', and almost every one used that 'protecting the law' mantra as an excuse, without a slightest trace of thought about what kind of law they actually protect and what other things are being done under that law.

All those thoughts made me smirk sarcastically after hearing about the accident in the docks.

Anyway, since the woman in the black hood said about Venus... Jenna... attacking her yesterday too, and moved closer to her friend after saying so, I concluded that any courtesies and redemptions should wait.

"So, you attacked her yesterday? Then you attacked that man today? And now you want to pour some wine into the glass and pretend it never happened. Do they have bounties on them or what? Phah, the irony, I've paid off mine personally, like, two years ago", I chuckled. "See... I don't want to start another brawl here, but a person that I call my friend feels really bad because you're 'dead'. Though, looking at the stuff you're doing, I can't understand why."

Saying that, I stepped back a little and sat on the edge of a free table, giving two women in the corner a bit of a 'breathing room'. Thing I also know that, being in the corner, you may not want to see someone between you and the exit.

Meowers"So, you attacked her yesterday? Then you attacked that man today? And now you want to pour some wine into the glass and pretend it never happened. Do they have bounties on them or what? Phah, the irony, I've paid off mine personally, like, two years ago", I chuckled. "See... I don't want to start another brawl here, but a person that I call my friend feels really bad because you're 'dead'. Though, looking at the stuff you're doing, I can't understand why."

'Yes.... I won't deny that.'

I thought for a moment keeping my back to the bar staring out into the open area. I take another drag and exhale slowly. A heaviness in my heart from the constant mention of Silvia's woes.

'I didn't want it to come to this but... I was taken to a separate station than her. I wanted to tell her but I had no idea where she was. I found out she was here I showed up but found nothing. I waited around for days and nothing. Then he...' Motions to the presumably unconscious Vodan behind the bar. 'Showed up asking questions about her. I thought he could give me some leads but that wasn't the case. I received a contract for someone had no idea who it was. That is until she showed up.'

I small snarl formed on my face which was translated into a bit of hatred.

'That's when I found out Silvia had been taken by the same man who she thinks killed me. I haven't a clue where he is. I just know she is due to be delivered to Azimuth soon.'

I take another drag still keeping my back turned to the bar. I paused for any input as I realized I was rambling at this point.

A mix of matters of the heart and a hot temper has always been an infallible recipe for trouble. I shrugged.

"You might be putting her in jeopardy. Think of the bloody friggin' lot of enemies you can make by attacking people here and there. Once you find her, those enemies may harm her, in attempt to harm you in return."

Seeing Venus/Jenna smoking, I couldn't resist the temptation to reach out for my pack of cigarettes. Letting the first puff of smoke to the side, away from presumably non-smoking women in the corner, I continued.

"Yeah, I saw her in the bar too. She took a few bartender shifts to help the local folks. Then we dropped a bunch of that guy's lapdogs", I nodded towards the bar, where Vodan was, "...right in the middle of a friggin' angry Thargoid swarm. Trying to help another friend of mine who also looks like missing now, and that bearded arse should know where he is."

Meowers "...right in the middle of a friggin' angry Thargoid swarm. Trying to help another friend of mine who's also missing now, and that bearded arse should know where he is."

The mention of thargoids causes me to turn and face her a look of confusion on my face.

'She.... fought them? The thargoids she actually faced them? How did she fare? She was always terrified of them. Wanted to join help in the efforts but more so in a science way. I was the one who fought those things.'

A proud smile rises across my face as I think of Silvia zipping around shooting those damned bugs. Then a solitary tear forms and streaks down my face. As I think about the rest of what Meowers had stated.

'Yes you are right I could be putting her in danger. Though that one back there is in that state due to him talking about Silvia in a way that showed he thought her nothing more than a quick lay. If you want him he is all yours I assume the one you are concerned about it Creamy. He came in wearing his very distinct cologne and very obviously Creamy's clothes.'

'He was talking something about how he got his position back. Tried to recruit me to the Ananasi or whatever BS pirate crew he is in charge of.'
01 Aug 2023, 4:27am
I smiled, taking a drag of vanilla-flavoured smoke. Not that I trusted Jenna or wanted to say something good to her, but our Anti-Xeno forces could really have more recruits like Silvia; so it might be that 'instructor' part of me talking, and I'm still, kind of, new to that role.

"She did well, especially for someone who fought them for the first time. We thrashed a dozen of them together, Medusa and Hydra included", I decided not to mention the heavy damage her ship took during the fight, emphasising the positive moments. I took the Melli figurine that I kept in the chest pocket of my uniform and showed it to Jenna. "Gave me this after we landed."

"And that guy... I don't know what to do. Like, how can you trust him? He might be scheming, or, more likely, simply a puppet of his boss. I doubt they like me after the losses I caused, even if it's shitty goons on shitty buckets. However, I also doubt there are same people behind Creamy's and Silvia's disappearance."
01 Aug 2023, 5:00am
I smiled at the figurine display.

'Must've made an impression on her to have received that. Only people who were truly considered a friend would ever receive an item from her.'

I decided to show the zippo she had given me on our 4th anniversary. The brilliant platinum casing shone brightly a Duval crest on one face and a Tanzanite jewelston on the other. Though the look on my face isn't of joy more so sorrow. Then in a somber tone I spoke attempted to speak. The words getting caught in my throat and not coming forth.

'I wish.... I......'

All I could do was grasp the lighter tightly in my hand and pull it to my chest. I fought visibly to hold back tears. Through all of my rage and all of my mistakes I had failed Silvia.

'I told her I would end the universe if she ever went missing. I tried to fight my way to Diaz and it got us in this mess. I faked my death to let the heat fall free from her. Instead it just made her an easy target.'

I look over to Vodan and shake my head.

'I know he isn't part of the same crew. I know all the prominent players and most of them are dead, save for one.'

I motion to Vodan and continue.

'You can take him and find out what he knows about your friend. He should be awake within the hour.'
01 Aug 2023, 5:25am
I looked at Vodan once more, and, as much I wanted to know what happened to Creamy, I also knew that he won't tell the truth even being held at gunpoint.

"Yeah... He may give some clues. Though, I really need to check everything myself, and those checks should be perfect."

Finishing the cigarette, I came closer to Jenna so that my next words could be perceived more as 'private', quiet enough to be imperceptible by anyone else but her.

"You've done what you thought was right, you may still blame yourself for going the wrong way, but keep in mind how fierce and determined you've been. And, what you've done, was right from your perspective at the given moment. To correct the mistakes of the past, having more experience in the present, to change your opinions and points of view, having more information to build your new views upon, to evolve, is natural. We can't change the past, but we can try building the future without letting the past to hinder our attempts. You have the strength to fight, things that you did are a proof. What you need is a direction. And it's difficult to find one, looking through the haze that clouds your mind. Don't blame yourself for having to take several tries here."

I stepped back and took a sip of my coffee.

"I still can't trust you, but if my friend is dear to you, we aren't enemies."
01 Aug 2023, 6:19am
I held my breath as Meowers approached. She was intimidating. Sure I had fought bigger but for some reason I felt a sense of fear. Maybe it was the patches. Maybe it was her calm demeanor or possibly it was from her lugging a full table at my head once before with so much force it damn near knocked me off my feet.

As she spoke I felt a strange sense of calm wash over me. Hearing for the first time that the actions I had taken were justified only if slightly. It was enough for me to relax. I let my shoulders slump and a sigh of relief was released.

'Silvia knows how to pick her friends. She must've had quite the impact on you. And you her. That figurine was hand carved. She had been working on it for months. When I asked her why she was making it she only said... "I'll know when that time comes. For now it's just something to do." Whatever it was you did for her thank you.'

I turned back around to look out into the station once again. I lit another cigarette and let the smoke drift away down the alley.

'I don't need trust but I will not harm you. Silvia truly is the only thing I care about. I meant that the last time we spoke. I do hope you found someone. It sounded like you had someone when last we spoke.'
01 Aug 2023, 6:27am
Jenna Marquez'You relax.

“How about not being a smug asshole for five minutes? I’m getting really tired of everyone thinking I’m a completely clueless idiot. First that angry guy in the coat, now you.”

I sighed, exasperated at the woman’s behavior.

“That Diaz guy would’ve known I’m going to visit that little station of his, and which ships were scheduled to land when. Doubt they’d just have let me walk in, or remained oblivious to the fact a ship landed at the station and stuff suddenly started to go sideways. So if he thinks he can do much with a fake ID that doesn’t exist in the legal system, he can go right ahead. Besides that, I’m not even here in the same ship, and he probably already knows who I am anyway, given that I had a little shootout with one of his henchmen in Earth airspace.”

I breathed, to calm down a little before I started off again.

“Why are all you Imperials all the same? All high and mighty, above everyone else, like you don’t even care about proving the stereotype wrong. If I had someone willing to risk their life for my wife, I would consider them as more than just a blunt tool for the job. As is, you’re making me more and more tempted to just keep the information to myself, and flick you the finger as I go off to rescue her. If that’s your goal, you’re doing a great job of achieving it. I brought you someone along as well, if you care to ask the dock workers near bay 25 to transfer the cargo from my ship to one of yours.”

“And I’ll have you know something - that ‘bounty’ is as far from a legally issued one as it gets. If you think being in the shit with the Duvals is bad, just wait if you try to hit me, and all three superpowers decide to start making your life hell. And what’s Silvia going to say when she becomes aware you tried to hand me off to Azimuth in your own turn?”

I waved a blue tanzanite jewel I received from her - or rather, Melli - in her face, then put it away again as I walked back over to the table with Willow, who I assumed was more interested in her food than talking by this point, but I had no interest in being near that Imperial snob on her high horse any further at this point. The threat of a broken arm didn’t seem to discourage her, while I hadn’t even remotely shown what I was capable of, but pissing Silvia off at her likely would.

Hearing the all to familiar chime in from someone who knew very little about me I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose.

"Venus keep your head about you. Not really worth it remember just a pawn in your plan."

The thought drowns out a portion of what Kasumi said. The part about the imperials rubs me the wrong way though. I hold back from shouting and rushing her and simply just turn around again to see a jewel in her hand.

'You know frighteningly little about the affairs you are meddling in. Or maybe you know enough to think you know better. Your daemon had a source location and a creation tag which is tied to you. Don't spout some BS about spoofing the ID because if you had, how did my agent know precisely who you are without my mentioning you.'

I wasn't about to let the imperial thing slide either and continued.

'We don't act high and mighty. We don't act anyway except in our best interest. People like you are the reason the rest of us stick to imperial space. People like you are the reason I don't care if the bounty is legal or not. People like you assume that I would have the entire bubble on me like flies on manure. I am much more capable and much more likely to get you removed from existence with the snap of a finger. So you would do well to stifle your tone otherwise your friends at Aegis will hear about your adventures.'

I look to Meowers offer a friendly smile and walk away from the bar. I had enough information as it was but now that I have a person to question I no longer needed to stick around.
01 Aug 2023, 6:51am
"See?", I addressed to Jenna again, nodding at the woman in the hood. "The clues are obvious."

"Silvia has friends, and not only these friends are also interested in bringing her back, but they're a big part of her life. I guess you don't want to take this part away from her by escalating a conflict. Otherwise, her questions about why her friends don't like you may be damn uncomfortable."

"Sorry I don't know much about how and why she disappeared. It happened while I've been far away from here", the only thing I was able to add, though Jenna already looked determined leaving the bar.

I shrugged and sat at the table, thinking about having a second coffee; and a bit of my mindpower was diverted to possible questions for Vodan.

I rolled my eyes.

“If you’re as good of a bounty hunter as you claim, you would know which kind of organization you’re going to piss off where all three superpowers are involved. But I guess you didn’t do your research. And do you think I would care about Silvia if she was anything but a close friend? That ever cross your mind?”

The exchange was getting tiring.

“If the Imperial highness to defend and care for your own people is to look like stinkbags to the rest of the galaxy, be my guest. Sure, everyone does that. But you just look so much worse doing it. How much better do you think this place would be if we weren’t exploiting each other every step of the way? Because that’s pretty much what you’re doing right now. Only because I’m not Imperial, I’m nothing more than a tool for you to find Silvia.”

I shook my head.

“I’m not upset, because it won’t affect me. It’s just sad. Someone else would just get dumped on the side of the road without anything to their name once you got what you wanted, even when that is not at all necessary.”

The statement held a challenge to prove it wrong, but I suspected it wouldn’t be.

“And I think you’re just trying to fuck with me with this whole ID nonsense. I know how tracker beacons work, so unless your agent - who you could have told I’d be coming - also decided to plant another bug on the station’s administrator, because you knew I’d be taking him. It’s almost like you want me to fail so I’m not in your way when you have Silvia back.”

‘And you’ll be sorely surprised if you think that idiot is going to get anything from me other than a bullet to the face’, I added in my thoughts. Saying what I did turned out to be pointless, as ‘Jenna’ just walked out of the bar without a further word.

“What a waste of time. Figures that she just walks out when actually challenged.”

I looked to Meowers.

“Tell me you’ll stop that idiot from trying to claim the ‘bounty’ if she gets funny ideas again. Not too interested in having to break her arm. And if you’re interested in the ‘why’, that’s not something I’ll talk about in public.”

Belladonna sat outside with the bar with station security, watching the feed from the cameras inside. She wondered why Vodan was being so polite about the fight. Ok, he’d said he wanted a quiet drink, and he didn’t want to upset Citi right now, but this was stupid. Security had seen enough to know Vodan had acted in self-defense, but Bell was enjoying the show.

It's like the people inside didn’t think Vodan knew what being a pirate captain was all about. They waffled on like personal shields were trump card he wouldn't have thought of. But for some reason, Vodan had just stood there like a lemon and let himself get hit. Then, he didn’t bother using all that sparing and training he’d bragged about. He hadn’t even shot the woman after making his guns ready, like he said he would. She even messed about in her pockets giving him plenty of time, but whatever. Her men had arrived now, so Bell would deal with it.

Watching Vodan get his ass kicked was kind of nice, but Vodan had let everyone in the bar he was captain of a pirate carrier, they knew he’d called for Bell at least. He had warned the women she was getting all four barrels if she carried on fucking around. Obviously, she didn’t think he was telling the truth, or didn’t care about the consequences, so it was time for a lesson.

“Alright boys, shes’ coming” said Bell with her finger in the air still watching the feed.

The Security staff were all new and didn’t want to deal with someone like Jenna, but Bell did, so she had offered to help. Once Jenna was close to the doorway, and the rest of the people inside were out of the line of fire, Bell dropped her hand. Four men stepped into view and lit her up with their capture weapons. All of them made a living taking targets alive. Stun bolts and chem-darts peppered the woman till she dropped.

Without missing a beat, mag-cuffs were placed around her wrist and ankles, and one around her neck, then wound in. Her arms and legs were pulled up towards the middle of her back, and then a high tensile line was connected to the brace on her neck.

“There you go sergeant” said Bell addressing the shocked man in charge of the security detachment. “All yours. We will expect any bounty on the target, minus your payment for handling and administration of course” said Bell with a wink before walking into the bar.

As station security recovered the well bound Jenna, Bells' men kept them covered form a safe distance. Ignoring everyone inside, Bell stalked over to her captain on long legs tightly covered in a shiny black and crimson flight suit that ended in high stilettos. Two plasma pistols hung on loose on crossed belts draped over her hips. A tight coreset pulled her narrow waist in, and her small chest up. Long silky black hair slid around her shoulders with no friction, looking like a dark waterfall topped with a very small red-banded top hat, pinned to her hair at a jaunty angle.

Narrow violet eyes looked out of a long marble white face. Her deep red lips parted a little when Bell happened to see Willow, but she didn’t quite let them smile until she was looking down at Vodan.

“You dead?” She asked, jabbing him pretty hard in the ribs with her pointed boot.

There was a moan from floor level.

“Ar crap, I was hoping you were dead”

Jenna had barely made it a meter away from the bar before she was gunned down by a multitude of stun projectiles and tied up, then dragged off by station security. I followed the event with a mildly bemused look on my face, thinking that she had it coming, but otherwise didn't pay any more attention to it, leaving Vodan's backup to do whatever they were here for. Which was probably him.
