General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Thank you, Silvia I will. Well then, no time like the present, let's get going that man. Oh, and by the way"

Creamy lifted his knee and there was a snake-strike-like blur below it as he let his boot contact Vodans liver.

"No calling me names. Any more of that and I'll kick your kidneys out through your ear holes. See you in the Black Mrs Muri." said Creamy strolling out the bar whistling a happy tune.

Violence wasn't his thing, but sometime, it felt superb.

Vodan knew what was coming as soon as Creamy lifted his knee. He'd trained for it, he was ready for it. Creamy always kicked. But he was distracted by the fine piece of skirt, and didn't react fast enough.

"Right in the .. fuckin .. liver" winced Vodan and he sank to his knee leaning on the bar wheezing through the pain.

He spent a few moments snatching shallow breaths through his teeth while he waited for the pain to subside.

"ooOh, guess I .. asked for that" he said pushing himself up so he could hobble after his ticket back to Vengerfields good books.

Melli lets out a vicious growl and snarl at the mention being called a ferret. Her chatter is very clearly that of being offended.

Let me eat the big one please.

'No Melli you cannot eat him and it's very unlikely I'll be contacting you Vodan. I don't care for pigs.'

I let out a snorting sound as him and Creamy leave. I walk back around the bar taking a seat and grabbing a couple ice cubes, placing them on the back of my neck.

'Phew..... really glad that didn't turn into a full blown fight. I can take a punch but I'm not back at 100%. Most of my display was me bluffing but I definitely would have shot him if it had come to it.'

SUTTORAD"Can I somehow help? I have there one T-10 and AX-evac Krait which is really fast if speed is needed." I said to group with no answer expected since I here quite unknown stranger
"Hmmm.... Thank you, but I guess it won't do any good. We need AX combat ships, preferably fast enough to disengage and bug out when it's needed. What I'm going to do is essentially a distracting move", I said to the tall man who was offering his help.

Then, putting the rifle on my back and the pistol, that was left by Creamy on the table unattended, under the belt, I gave a bar a quick look as it's unlikely that I'm going to return here anytime soon.

"Uh. I should go and do a thing. Thank you, and good luck. Take care, Silvia, get well."

"Right, so now what? Did I waste my time staying awake when I really shouldn't be for nothing?"

I stood there, hands placed on hips, finding myself to be a little annoyed, and looked at the remaining people that were present.
11 Jun 2023, 9:48pm
I offer a friendly wave to Meowers watching as she leaves the bar.

'Ya see ya. Please don't get yourself killed. Sounds like you have someone waiting at home for you. Fly safe, live dangerously. Ina you let me know if shit hits the fan I'll be there.'

I look to Kira and offer a welcoming smile.

'I'll be onboard Ripjaw in hangar 02. I really must get some rest. This took alot out of me. I'll let Eden know you are authorized onboard should you decide to stop by.'

Melli wanders up to Kira her tail lowered and a look of sorrow on her face. She looks into her eyes, offers a gentle yip and licks her face as if to say sorry. She prances back over to me and opens up a pouch on my hip. From it she pulls out a small trinket and runs it over to Kira. The trinket in question is a brilliant palm sized teardrop cut tanzanite jewel. She looks back to me and chatters politely.

Melli sorry she bite pretty lady

I smile at the actions and look to Kira.

'She apologies for having bit you. I am not sure what she means by that.'

With that I depart the bar and head back to my ship to catch some sleep and try to recover.

With people leaving the bar, Cass takes it as their signal to sidle out as well, heading back to their diamondback explorer in the docks.
11 Jun 2023, 10:31pm
I looked at the strange, bluish gemstone, not sure what to do with the thing, and put it away in one of my pouches. This wasn't something I'd get much use out of, other than having it sit on a shelf looking pretty. Then I left the bar, and composed a message to Silvia while going back to my ship, after wiping my face off.

Your pet decided to bite me so I'd wake up when you passed out. Not that it turned out to be necessary, but whatever. Please do let it know I'm not a big fan of getting licked in the face, much as I like animals. Not sure what to do with that gem either.

Also, I'll sleep in my own ship or some place I've rented out on the station for the night, but thanks for the offer. If those pirates decide to be stupid and try making a mess of the station, I'd rather be on there and have my weapons at hand, if they need a piece of my mind. And a reminder why I shouldn't be pissed off.

Oh, and that angry guy's lucky I wasn't in the mood for a fight, or he'd probably be in the medbay with a broken arm and bad headache right about now.

I hit send as I entered the elevator down to the docks, and selected carrier navigation, telling it to make a jump to Cephei Sector ZZ-Y b3, then somewhere at maximum distance away, and not in Imperial space, if Creamy did decide to hop on in clandestine fashion. Docking permissions were updated appropriately to allow anyone who'd been involved in the planning of the now-useless plan on it, and only permit access to the pilots I had authorized to land on it.

If they weren't going to use it, then I'd at least tried to offer a solution anyway. I doubted I'd be awake for much longer, so I'd likely miss if there were some secret shenanigans I wasn't aware of at play.

Walking in slowly, Ridge checked for the colorful people that had been frequenting the bar the last few days. It looked seat warmers, drink huggers and bar flies only. No extroverts or conversation starters in sight.

"Ok, coast is clear, let's go" said Ridge heading for the bar shouting his order as he walked

"Hey there darlin'. I'll have a large, and I mean large serving of biscuits and gravy if you please, an'my boy here wants pie and mash. Please and thank you kindly m'am" say Ridge with the charm only a large-wasted older southern gentleman can get away with.

"As you seem to be in the buying mood chief, I'll take.." started Ephrain

"You'll take my boot up ur'ass. You earn a wage, so you'an Transil can buy your own damn food"
20 Jun 2023, 10:19pm
"Like jeez, I told you not to call me that Ridge. So, if people don't know about the Transylvania thing, it sounds like something else you know?" complained Willow knowing full well she was wasting her time.

Whatever, the bar looked safe for a change, and her extract was nice and warm in its pouch. So, if the vending machine had the UnMeatAble flavor she liked, today could be a perfect day. They had finished the Photon Net upgrade. That gave the station enough surplus power to get another reactor started, and that meant another section of the station could be opened.

And there it was, minced steak and onion flavor UnMeatAble with chillie-cheese topping. It was the good topping too. It set like cement and had the adhesive qualities of resin if she let it go cold, but that never happened.

She caught her self doing a happy little head bop as she pressed her pad to pay, but today that was ok. Everything was coming up roses. Dark blue roses, so dark they looked black, but they were still roses.
21 Jun 2023, 12:54am
Walking into the bar holding my data pad, I'm watching what appears to be combat footage of a fight in a maelstrom. I stride past the group of station repair workers and find myself a spot at the end of the bar away from everyone. I order a blue lagoon and a rare steak then close my data pad. Surprisingly enough Melli is not seen with me this go around.

I look around and notice Willow. I quickly hide my face away hoping she doesn't recognize me. I felt embarrassed about our last meeting and certainly was not wanting to cause any further grief for her. My steak arrives a few minutes later and I proceed with eating and watching the combat footage.

Having finished my meal I pay the tab and as a sort of pay it forward gesture I pay the tabs for the crew working to restore the station

'Hey barkeep. The steak was magnificent give my gratitude to the chef on duty. Oh and before I go please place that crews meals on my tab.'

I stand from my seat and proceed out of the bar. As I walk past the bartender, I reach into my bag and pull out 4 softball sized void opals and set them down on their tray. I do my best to hide my face though I hoped my haircut would help keep my identity a secret.

'Give these to that table of workers over there. Thank you.'

I step out of the bar and head back to my ship to leave the station.

It was good gravy, so Ridge didn't bother with cutlery. He just broke the biscuits, dipped them and enjoyed. Willow was dribbling that foul tar she liked all over her food as usual, and Mark was tucking in to a huge pile of mashed potato with extra butter that all but smothered a pie.

Ephrain had chop sticks in one hand dipping them blindly into a bowl of seafood noodles, and his expensive holo-pan in the other.

"Looks like the Far God worshipers are being persecuted for existing" he said after chewing a prawn "I think they are mentally defective, and should be watched, but rounding them up and sending them away for being stupid is hypocritical of the Federation"

"Oh come on now guys" warned Ridge "You know where this goes when things get political" He looked around for anyone that maybe listening that may come and shout at them for having opinions.

"I'm not surprised at all" said mark ignoring Ridge "When the Empire chase actual terrorists to an engineer that is funded by a crime family, the bubble is invited to come and stop them looking for justice"

"But when the Feds round up people that may cause trouble with a mind to dump them in a prison colony, that's just fine. No one needs to try and stop them, because they are protecting the people from suspected terrorists"
21 Jun 2023, 11:25am
Another message from someone Willow hardly knew was read and deleted. It seemed like her, many people had better luck using text to say what they wanted, but it all went to shit if they tried it face to face.

"Huh? Like, who's going to jail?" asked Willow trying to catch up with the conversation.

Ephrain and Mark gave her the bullet points while Ridge stayed out of it concentrating on his biscuits and gravy. One of the staff came over with a tray of drinks they didn't order.

"Evening guys, this is on the house" she said placing a tumbler down for each of them. "Its a thank you for all the hard work.

"Oh right yeah, like thanks" said Willow thinking more about what Mark and Ephrain had said.

"So its like, its all about freedom, but like, not the freedom advised you know? But hey, isn't prevention better then like, a cure right? I mean, if security think these bounty hunters are going start some shit, I wouldn't mind if they were kicked off the station before that you know? We just started expanding the habitables and I don't want that messed up."
21 Jun 2023, 12:05pm
Of course Willow was inside. And with her team. The last thing that I wanted to see right now, bar some idiot causing trouble with their guns.

‘Why can’t I avoid this stress anywhere I go?’

I was now left with three choices, stood there in simple black clothes, the only difference to my attire being a sweater over the shirt. Find somewhere else entirely, ignore them and leave, or try to apologize. And then leave anyway.

I decided to try my luck with the third option, bringing up what little determination I could muster. Going into the bar, I pointed at a bottle of Lavian Brandy and took the whole thing, leaving a chip as payment. Then I walked over to their table and placed it there, gently.

“Consider this as an apology for… recent events.”

That was it. Nothing else came out of my brain, or mouth, for that matter. I wasn’t even sure how the gesture would be perceived, more so since I was a little harder to recognize under the hood. I doubted it would do anything, other than cause some confused looks, but at least I knew I had done it.

“I’ll just… get out of your way now. Just want a damn quiet evening on this station for once.”

I quickly turned away, leaving little chance for a response, and picked up some food from the vending machine. Then I found a spot not far from the bar, but still distant enough to be removed from it, and began to read Silvia’s message as I went through the food, rather quickly. I preferred to focus on that than people that didn’t care, and for whom neither I nor they were likely to be very interested in further exchanges.
